  1. Good call on the apology, but if I ever need carpet cleaning equipment, it won't be from you. Michael
  2. How do you define that? My Sociology 101 professor made it sound a lot like communism, but that was a long time ago, so please refresh my memory on what that means. Humanism has meant many things over the years. To me, it's pretty simple. We all (men and women) live on this planet together. I believe the only fair way is to work together. That's about it. Michael
  3. Now you aren't be suggesting that womens' groups are ineffective if men aren't a part of them, are you? Surely not... Last I checked, NOW wasn't a womens' only club. Feel free to join the fight: www.now.org A group of us marched on the university administration building in 1968 to protest their refusal to allow a NOW rally on campus. We took up a collection to bring NOW organizers to our campus and I borrowed my buddy Gus' VW microbus to drive to Nashville, to pick them up. I thought their goals were good then and not so bad now. Feel free to join the fight. Seriously, as a humanist, I think the more people we have working for fairness and equality, the better ...don't you? Or ...I suppose women can just keep on harboring resentment and being underemployed and underpaid. Peace, Michael
  4. Lighten up, Francis. Michael
  5. Lots of morphine should do the trick. I recommend Midazolam (Versed). Great sedative properties and something called 'event amnesia' ...you won't even remember you had to wait :) Michael
  6. PROVE IT !!! https://www.payscale.com/smrtrptex.asp Chart 5a http://www.ingenta.com/isis/searching/Expand/ingenta?pub=infobike://pal/01605682/2003/00000054/00000012/art00003 http://216.239.39.104/search?q=cache:wcug15NZ6OgJ:www.hr.state.tx.us/LegalSpotlight/works%2520hard%2520for%2520the%2520money.ppt+female+vs.+male+compensation&hl=en So, you either need to concede that women make less than men because they are women. Or you have to claim that women are generally inferior to men and deserve less pay. Which is it? I wonder sometimes what women will say to their daughters. "I know you are having trouble finding a good job that pays equally. I guess I could have done something about it, but I chose to play with Barbies and join women only groups rather than address these injustices. There were plenty of men willing to help fight these problems, but we ridiculed them for not supporting our separatist groups ...sorry." Michael
  7. Ahhh, people digging holes. Reminds me of Hooper's loot in Z-Hills. Michael
  8. Kill Bill 1 & 2 ( 1 is better) 50 First Dates (warm and funny) Butterfly Effect
  9. [replyMarriage, as a social institution, exists primarily as a mechanism for the orderly transfer of property to descendants. Michael Yes, that is true, however, I believe that you have simplified it just a bit... ~R+R...Too much actually...but as I said in my previous post...I believe that you need to read up on the subject... -------------------------------- Are you saying that the societal institution of marriage had other reasons for coming about? It is an instrument of society to serve society's purposes. It's primary purpose was to 'legitimize' any offspring resulting from the legal union for the purpose of inheritance. The genesis of the institution of marriage was to clarify property rights. Any benefit to the individuals involved is serendipitous.
  10. Wow. I'm making no call what so ever and blaming no one. I just wondered how you could assure us what they knew and did not know. Michael
  11. Strong = Intelligent, competent women who live their lives honorably and compassionately ...who speak their minds, make decisions independantly and deal with life in an open, honest manner. Ahhh, such beauty. Strong = self centered bitch who takes what she can because she can ...who thinks because she is female she is entitled to privledge and special consideration? Pass, thanks. Michael

  13. It started when skydiving began accepting 'timid' people ...people that never would have entered the sport if they couldn't have been strapped to someone or exit in the firm grip of instructors. Or, increasingly, denied the opportunity to find out if they could. Not making a call on the viability of various instructional methods, but when skydiving was limited to those who could find within themselves what it took to exit an airplane, all on their own ...well we didn't have very many fun nazis ...but we had a shit load of bandit fun and learned how to pull back the curtain of perceived limitations and see what we were really capable of. Michael
  14. The driving force for employment drug testing (aside from yet another form of societal hysteria) is insurance rates. Insurance companies pretty much enforce the type and frequency of work place drug testing by varying their rates. Pre-employment urine testing across the country varies between approximately $12 and $60 per test. The average is about $25 to $35 per test. Pre-employment hair testing varies across the country between approximately $25 and $75 per test either alone or in combination with urine. The average is about $45 to $65 per test. If the insurance savings exceed the increased cost, we will see more hair testing. Corporations and lawyers love hair testing. It's a great way to 'go fishing' and deny claims, benefits. Who knows, they just might find something. Much like Homeland Security, yes, they might, but the cost is measured in much more than dollars. Impairment in the workplace is only marginally adressed by these strategies. Michael

    Pet Poll

Well, if it were me, I would start by letting my friends know that I was ...looking. Cats and dogs have been working night and day producing just what you are looking for.
  16. Agreed (I suspect most long time skydivers would agree). If I were on the bottom of the rope, I would hope and trust that my brother would evaluate the situation and make the hard decision. My death would be ill served if it brought about my brother dying needlessly for me. Now. If he had an honest shot ...Go for it! Sometimes facts are just not what we want them to be ...don't let that keep you from making the right decisions. BSBD, Michael
  17. What's the difference? Check this out. Ahhh, more fine foods from the toxic waste state. Michael
  18. Cutaway was written by someone who knew skydiving's rich history. Michael
  19. Protection is not it's main function. Looks cool though, doesn't it? Michael
  20. You don't need the latest and greatest for Doom3 to run smoothly. Runs smoothly on my Athlon 2100 (1.7GHz), a gig of RAM ( 500MB is a moderate amount of RAM) and ATI Radeon 9800 XT. Michael
  21. Bad advice. Take cool showers. Your skin cells have already had too much heat. Michael
  22. Topically? Any moisture retaining lotion. Drink lots of water (10-12, 10 oz glasses/day) and take Advil (it's a great anti-inflammatory drug and sunburn is difinitely an inflammatory response) for the next couple of days. Oh, and stay out of the sun for a while :) Michael
  23. Thanks, TK. I passed on your most kind offer. In the meantime, cleanup continues. Betty says that anyone coming to help needs to come dressed in sturdy shoes and work gloves as the current environment hs a lot of 'ouchies'. Thing they currently need: ICE, Extra work gloves and gasoline. Be advised they are under a sunset to sunrise curfew. Michael
  24. Just got off the phone with Chris Gay who is onsite with the CRW team. Everyone there is pitching in just to secure what can be saved and making good progress. He and Raul asked me to pass on that the help that is needed is two fold. As many of us heard, everyone that lived on the DZ is homeless. Second piece of bad news is that the DZ was not insured. Two accounts will be set up with specifics posted soon. The first will be for the skydivers, to help them get back on their feet. A separate, second, account will be set up for donations to help rebuild the DZ. Betty and Roger send their heartfelt thanks for the emails, phone calls and vibes sent their way. At present, they have food (lots, actually ...they are trying their best to eat the food in the restaurant before it goes bad) and water and limited electricity supplied by a generator. Michael
