  1. \\\disclaimer/// I haven't made a night jump, but my altimiter did. So I watched a friend that was borrowing my Alti gearing up and asked lots of questions. ***** He used a small strip of silver Duck Tape to cover about 1/2 of a small light stick lengthwise. Then clear packing tape to affix it to the altimiter face. He said the silver tape would help light up the face of the altimiter rather then his eyes, hence closing his pupils up and making it harder to see in the dark. It worked pretty well for me when I played with it at later after the jump. He and the other jumpers used the clear packing tape to affix other chem lights on their legs and arms as well. I can't wait to do a night jump myself eventually. matt
  2. jimmytavino, a camera flyer that's on here from time to time uses a VX 1000. I haven't heard him complain. may be worth shooting him a PM. He'd probably be more then glad to help. The camera is pretty big though, compared to some of the others, but the picture quality is great from what I've seen. matt
  3. I asked my friend, whose brother owns a balloon tour company, and he said that the insurance is insane if they want to have jumpers. So I guess I'll have to jump one at a boogie some day.
  4. Wouldn't that just make for Ground Chicken when they doof in? matt
  5. looks like they could hide that thing under a jacket with a not so big container/harness. But who would jump w/a reserve of similar size?
  6. skymamma - no worries... I just felt like ragging on him. I read that too. Didn't mean to nit pick. andy2 - I see where you're coming from, but I was thinking a couple "nice," aka... sweet, aka... loaded, you get the idea with all the trimmings and accesories you'd need to outfit someone for some touring in a composite boat. I just wish I could get my friend EMS Employee Discount. matt
  7. Yep... I'm a student and I'd much rather pay the $$ to know that I'm getting good training. After all it isn't like i'm just riding a rollercoaster. My life is in my own hands and I'm going to be damn sure that I know as much as possible and am prepared thuroughly. Plus, two Kayaks for $1700. Those are pretty cheap boats. Let's just hope the bargain shopper doesn't think it's too expensive to pick up a life jacket and drown... matt
  8. That explains the, "Are you going to eat me??" look that he's giving you and the camera. lol. Those little guys can be fast. I chased a fast one that I saw in Italy once. I should have used a bit more patience.
  9. Here Lizard, Lizard, Lizard.... nice pix
  10. from the film i've shot... Fuji seems to do better for action/sports and great green/blue tones, but kodak does well for portraits and warmer skin tones (the red side of things).
  11. I was thinking you looked like "Dr. Jack Kevorkian"
  12. Aggie - do what makes you happy, but know that I (and I suspect there are others) who will be waiting to read your -beer- post after vacation.
  13. The prop wash does some cool stuff to the smoke. Ever see what a can of smoke looks like when a Helo comes in to land.
  14. The link to Lake Wales is broken on this page... http://www.dropzone.com/dropzone/Detailed/504.html
  15. isn't that Texas though.... ***ducks for cover before Aggie Dave shows up***

  17. My $.02 are on the way too via Paypal. Thanks for doing this Kevin.
  18. Wow. You guys are awesome. Truely. This thread is making me think about a gift a friend gave me once. I wonder if I can still find it. A smooth rock with two sides rounded by sand and water about this size of a silver dollar, but a little more oval then that. He found it on a beach in California, brought it home and on one side painted "Here," and on the other side "Now" in caligraphy style. I used to carry it around in my pocket. I think I nearly rubbed the paint off with my fingers. It was sort of a Mantra that I'd like to get my life back to... Be... Here and Now... Be... Here... Now...
  19. Ok... so since you're on the topic. And not to hijack a thread, but I've got a friend in a similar situtaion. He's wheelchair dependent at the momemt (leukemia complications). I hope he can get his legs functional again sometime, but it looks like a long road from here if it happens at all. It seems to me that people with no legs have less trouble or are less trouble to jump with then those without control of theirs. He's about 6'5" last time he was standing. I keep invision his legs flopping around in the breeze being a problem for the TM. He has excellent upper body strength and almost perfect control there. What do you do about his legs? In freefall? On landing? a body suit or something to let him lift his legs with his arms on landing? matt
  20. There is always NABET which is a part of CWA. (National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians/Communications Workers of America) My local is NABET-CWA Local 25 Maybe some of the people there could help you with info or ideas if you'd like. PM me if i can be of any help.
  21. I don't know exactly what to say, but ran into some lyrics that say it for me... "May your smile. Shine on. Dont be scared Your destiny may keep you warm. Cos all of the stars are fading away Just try not to worry youll see them some day"
  22. ***in reference to the other pictures*** I'd like to see some examples of the other pix, but it sounds like it could be light leak for the "smearing." If they are streaks the may be scratched negs. It could be in the processing though. I've had a few rolls ruined by processing and ruined a few myself. Either way whatever the problem may be. Before you spend some big $$ getting it repaired, and if you haven't yet, pick up a can of compressed air take your lens off and open the film door and blow all the dust out to get any dust, gunk, grime out that may have built up over the decades. Then run a roll through it to see if it helped at all. Just my 2 cents. Try going somewhere else for film processing eventually too if they scratch your negs regularly. matt P.S. I hope I cleared up what I was trying to say... I haven't ever had a shutter stick personally, but have had scratches and light leaks from a few different sources. (Cam Door, re-loaded film canisters, etc...)
