I coil'em up pick up the d-bag and pilot and walk to the packing area. Since I got velcro toggle keepers i just put the handles on the velcro to keep all tidy and not having the velcro fraying up lines. I still take out the twists in my breaklines every time I pack. Adds 15 sekonds more to the pack job, so why not? If I land out I daisy chain the lines and puts the slider in the last loop so that it doesn't come loose. much easier to handle the canoppy that way. A boy was crossing the road one day when a frog called out to him and said, "If you kiss me, I'll turn into a beautiful princess." He bent over, picked up the frog and put it in his pocket. The frog spoke up again and said, "If you kiss me and turn be back into a beautiful Princess, I will stay with you for one week." The boy took the frog out of his pocked, smiled at it and returned it to his pocket. The frog then cried out, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a beautiful Princess, I'll stay with you for one week and do *Anything* you want." Again the boy took the frog out, smiled at it and put it back into his pocket. Finally the frog asked, "What is it? I've told you I'm a beautiful Princess, that I'll stay with you for a week and do "Anything* you want. Why won't you kiss me?" The boy said, "Look, I'm a computer programmer, I don't have time for girlfriends, but a talking frog is really cool." There are only 10 types of people in the world. Which container do you like more & Y? Vector or Mirage?
fudd replied to pyke's topic in Gear and Rigging
There are a lot of good containers out there. I've been drewling over new containers, but don't got the money yet so I'm sticking with my Vector II for this season. I think the Vector III or Micron seems like great containers, but I've also considering Mirage or Wings. What I like about the Mirage is that they look so small. Don't know how they do it, but I've seen a mirage with a 190 canopy that looks like it contains a 150. Then again, maybe it was an extremely tight fit. The Wings container also looks sweeeet... Then there is the new Icon from Aerodyne. Haven't seen one yet (few have). Anyway, I have a Vector II, and think that it is a great container even though its becoming a bit old. Are you buying new or used? There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't. -
Grenland FSK is located at Geiteryggen airport in Skien 140km from Oslo. The Cesna 206 is a bit faster than mosts and goes all the way up to 12000'. Being a small dz, the people have big hearts. Jumping every weekend and wednesdays in the summer and every second weekend in the winther. The club house is big, and it's possible to spend the night there for free.

I wonder if I will be able to abort my emergency procedure if I have comed so far that I have cut away, and not managed to pull the reserve handle before the rsl pulls my reserve and 'wham' I'm under my reserve. I've seen people come down in their reserves with the reserve handle in place saying they where under the reserve before they had time to pull it. I think if I have started my emergency procedure, I won't be able to stop before I'm finished because of muscle memory. My guess is that this is the reason why DZO/Instructors give you a hard time when landing with the reserve handle still in place, because they think you might not have trained for plan B enough. When the time comes that I have to cut away my main I will probably be wiser. I hope that wisdome won't come anytime soon...knock on wood.... There are only 10 types of people in the world. Risk management, skydiving and driving...
fudd replied to fudd's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That's opposite of me. I tend to drive slower on my way back from the dz. When I'm going to the dropzone I'm anxious to get there. Almost can't wait and speeds up a little. On my way back I'm calm and have no hurry getting back home... Perhaps being at the dz gives me peace of mind, almost like meditation, because this aplies even if I haven't gotten to jump at all.... Risk management, skydiving and driving...
fudd replied to fudd's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've noticed that after I started skydiving I drive more careful. Not that I've started driving significantly slower, but I'm more aware of keeping distance to the vehicle in front of me and I don't overtake as much, but rather take it easy and wait for a safe oppertunity to overtake. A friend of mine started wearing a bicycle helmet after he started skydiving. I had thought that skydiving would make one take more risks in other situation, but it seems to me like it might be opposite. Has anyone else here noticed the same? Have you becomed more aware of dangers and take better precautions after you started skydiving? There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't. -
What about doing something like freshmeat.net does. People enter their e-mail address as normal, but when they are displayed they are translated. eg some.dzcommer@dropzone.com translates to: some dot dzcommer at dropzone dot com The drawback is that it won't be effective if the email link is clicky. There are some javescripts that can hide the email addy from the source code, but that obviously won't work if the crawler/harvester is javascript enabled (however I believe most aren't.) Personally I like to redirect the robots visiting my site to this address: http://www.snart.com/mailt/mail-list/ There are only 10 types of people in the world. I set my cypres in the morning before the first load. After checking that it initilizes ok and is ready I forget about it. Astra I would have to turn on and of for each jump, and off after the day ends. No way to set different landing altitudes etiher (is there?). The only advantage I can see about the astra is that it can be turned off under canopy, but under a 170 I can't get my cypres to fire anyway. There are only 10 types of people in the world. I've seen a lot of pictures of people jumping inflatable rafts. Looks really cool, but what are the up's and downs? What experience level is recomended? What dangers are there? Maybe it will be better to let canopy size be a textfield instead? There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

I thought of this a long time ago, and finally did something with it. I created a web database where people can enter their canopies, containers and how they fit. Take a look at http://www.snart.com/packvolume/packvol.php and tell me what you think. Feel free to enter your canopies and containers too... There are only 10 types of people in the world. I'm not familiar with those suits. (got a SD collection suit myself. Really good suits from norway) I just would lilke to recomend you get string booties. They are adjustable, and will make the booties "sharper". Anyway, just my 2c... There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Here is my reason for using regular rubber bands. A PC at terminal pulls with 100 pound or more. If a regular rubberband should lock, it will likely break. A Tubestow would probably not. However, many people use tubestows and I don't think they have a higher rate of baglocks. I am no rigger or expert at this, so don't take my words for the truth. Never heard of SuperBandz, though... But how many skydivers are struck by lightning each year? I've never heard of a skydiver beeing struck by lightning under canopy, so in a thunderstorm the safest place to be would under canopy, right? Statisticly speaking of course There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

I find it a bit strange that there is no "cold" smoke alternatives (except flour). This must be something that can be improved. Any chemists out there to take the callenge? There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

I'm going to try bring my girlfriend to the dz this summer, but I'm a bit worried she might get bored since she's not jumping. Should I teach her to pack for me so I wont have to? She will have something to do and she could even earn a little jump money for me packing for others too There are only 10 types of people in the world. Pin check, pin check, pin check.... Well that said, it seems like a strange thing to do to lock the main with a zip tie and not the reserve. Could it have been opened by a TSA and closed with zip ties? Still no excuse, but kinda scary to know if wuffos have been messing with your gear. There are only 10 types of people in the world.
