  1. There's also the possibility of the solder coming undone in the crade. The jack-socket is attached to the printplate only by the solder points, and mine came loose. A friend had a proper soldering iron and fixed it for me. He also put some 2-component glue to fix it better to the printplate. It works nicely now. Conclusion: the design of the cradle is not that well thought out by Garmin. Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  2. Well, a couple things: - Is the USB serial converter listed in the Serial Port list? (make sure you have the right port selected). - Is the interface in your GPS set to "Garmin" (and not 'NMEA' or something else?) - Is the mini-jack of the gps serial cable properly seated in the gps cradle? There shouldn't be any metal visible of the jack (which is what fucked me over in the beginning. you need to press pretty hard to get it in all the way). - Did you get the right drivers installed for your USB-serial device? That's all I can think of at the moment... I had a bit of trouble getting it to work in the beginning. So don't give up.
  3. Damn man, that sucks... WTF, taking a suit apart and then putting it together, that is just really really shitty. I say name them... (although you might be accused of slander?) Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  4. Garmin ForeTrex 201 Perhaps if more people are going to be using it and you want to make it open source, we can set up a SourceForge page for it? Cheers, Costyn. Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  5. That was awesome dude... Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  6. Cool! Thanks, that worked. Hehe that guy in his red "wingsuit", that was kinda painful to watch. WTF why would they allow a hangglider in this competition. And the comments say the guy with the hangglider didn't fly far enough to win the prize. I guess they didn't really want to give it away. 7. Stupid zoomin.tv never works for me. Piece of crap site, shows me the advert, but not the actual tv clip. Oh well... Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  8. That is pretty strange. The 201 is a fine unit. Were you both on the same plane sitting next to eachother and his worked and yours didn't? The best place to sit in the 208 (Caravan) is next to the pilot. Alternatively, sitting in the back near the door is another place (but not as good as the forward seat). Don't sit underneath the wings, this will get you the worst reception. Cheers. Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  9. Yeah, and from what part of the shoulders? Or under your arm-pits? Do you accept metric values? Or do I have to convert them to your silly outdated American system before submitting them? Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  10. Check the other video I uploaded as well, the visuals are a lot better. Yes, the data is correct here. I was going for max-glide ratio, and not minimal downward speed. 50mph is not very difficult. Jarno (McCordia) occasionally does 35 mph after breakoff. Although we don't have any GPS data on forward speed from him (yet). Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  11. As promised: Birdman Meet in Cochstedt Enjoy! Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  12. On my Sony PC105 I get bright horizontal bars when pointing towards some very bright surface or area, but this is only if I have it in sports mode. If I select another mode, the weird effect goes away. Perhaps this is what you are experiencing? Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  13. Loic Jean-Albert's company Fly Your Body makes the S-Fly. Salomon is one of their major sponsors. They do not make or design the suits. Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  14. The jumper in question did not pull that low on purpose, apparently, he had trouble with his hackey. So you can't really call him an idiot. Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  15. Man, that is some crazy shit. I can't believe how much forward speed he still has when he hits the ground. A lot of people have been really badly hurt or died from lesser impacts... That is one lucky mofo. Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  16. Either there's some inside joke I'm missing, or you're just as crazy as James. The latter one, yeah... However James is no match for Jarno and Macca, when those two are in eachother's company. Heh plenty o' smart-shops where you can get them, indeed. Not all variants, but enough interesting ones. Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  17. Damn... that's some pretty sweet slo-mo. Very impressive. Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  18. Looks like Loic in one of his S-Fly's. Or is this a (another ) Russian jumper? Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  19. Sure, you can get a simple point & shoot camera, but the problem with these is they don't usually have a plug for a remote, so you can't use a bite or blow switch. Of course there are people who have opened up their camera to solder this in, but you have to want to do this to your shiny new digital camera. Some camera's have an option for an infrared remote. You might be able to hack something togehter in that manner... but I haven't really researched this. Most skydiving pictures you see on websites and magazines have been taken with these "big" camera's. Cheers, Costyn. Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  20. A God camera, well, I don't think that one has been invented yet. My suggestion: Canon 350D (or Digital Rebel XT as it is called in the USA) with the kit-lens. It is comparitively light and will get you great pictures, even on some of the automatic modes. Cheers, Costyn. Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  21. Cool suit man, love the color scheme! Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  22. Nice setup you've got there Scott. Yes, iMovie is a bit simple, although if you dig a bit, it does have some nice features, but some things are very strange and unlogical. But it is fine for putting together something simple. Cheers, Costyn. Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  23. Heh, just a couple days ago I made a remote just like this with an old PS2 mouse and a 2.5mm jack, (as described here. It was a lot cheaper than the official Canon one. Works perfectly. Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  24. Haha excellent! Who needs expensive windtunnels when you can use a pickup truck!?! Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
