  1. Hehe yeah I guess I'll have to face the music soon. No, but seriously I think it should be fun. Now to find a BMCI... Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  2. Cool, thanks for giving us the details about it. I was wondering what kind of camera you were using when filming Mac. The footage looks pretty nice. Of course the editors at Top Gear have turned their work into an artform so you can never really tell, but the camerawork is just as important of course. So, is Richard "the Hamster" Hammond as short as he looks on tv? Anyways, for anyone who wants to download and see the whole episode in high quality, fire up your favorite BitTorrent client and load it up with the .torrent file I've attached (mods, I hope this is ok?). Cheers, Costyn. Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  3. I have the Kenko 0.43 with the step-up ring (on my Sony PC105), and I'm reasonably satisfied with it. It's not a great lens, but what can you expect for $65, right? If I were to order a lens again I would dish out some more money and get a higher quality 0.45 Liquid Lens or something similar. Especially because I managed to mash the Kenko against the inside bar by the door on the way out last weekend, and now the focus ring on my camera is kinda broken. I can probably fix it, thankfully. Of course it's my own fault and a d-box or a flat lens would've helped in this case. In any case, if you're going to get one the three listed, get the flat one if you don't have a d-box; if you do, I'm not sure which is the best to use. Cheers, Costyn. 4. Hehe yeah it was a good segment to an always excellent tv show. Nice camera work James! I like how Hammond said "ooh, that sounded expensive" as he threw the car over yet another horrendous bump in the road. Good stuff. 5. Yeah, congrats dude... nice work! Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  6. Hmmm.... thats interesting. I thought it didn't play the newer WMVs, but now that I try out a couple, it seems to work fine. Dunno if it'll play the newest WMV9 files. I don't really have a way of identifying codecs used in files under Mac (there's no GSpot for Mac that I know of). Thanks for the heads up. 7. Ok, silly to be replying to myself, but I forgot to make a point in this post. If the distance calculation was done on the basis of an altitude range, there would be no discussion. If you measure the horizontal distance travelled between 10000 to 4000 feet the person with the best glide ratio wins, no matter how long they take between those two altitudes. Of course there is still the issue of tailwind, but as Claude has pointed out, you should only really be comparing people that jump at the same event with the same conditions. 8. Yes, this wil certainly help, but wouldn't it bleed off somewhat quickly? I can't see the increased forward speed having effect for more than 10 or so seconds? I agree with Yuri that a large leg wing will give you more forward speed, but wouldn't some arm wings then give you the opportunity to make ensure you actually make the 90 seconds? There's not that many people who can make a 105 second track from 13500ft, are there? (considering just using the tracking pants Yuri was talking about). Also, if you just use a big leg wing, you'll tip over forwards, sending you more in a head down trajectory. Similar to what happens when backflying, opening your leg wing without having your arm wings fully stretched out (or so it seems to happen with me, at any rate). 10. As some people will probably have noticed, the Wingsuit ranking is now also available on TrackingDerby.com. And Claude did change the time to 90 seconds, making it more accessible. A side effect is of course that someone getting more altitude can now dive head-low for 90 seconds and probably cover more distance, but we've discussed this topic to death already.
  11. The Top Gear torrents are MPEG4 in DivX or XviD format, which you can conveniently watch under Mac OS X with the absolutely awesome video players MPlayer or VideoLan Client. They will play almost any video file you throw at them. Alternatively, if you do get a WMV from SkydivingMovies.com (or elsewhere), get the Flip4Mac plugin for QuickTime (which is what MB38 was talking about I believe), so you can play WMVs in the QuickTime player. 12. If you are outside the UK and don't get BBC2 (we get it here in the Netherlands) you can get torrent files of recent episodes here. Top Gear rocks!! Can't wait for next week's episode. Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  13. Yeah, don't forget your tin foil hat so the guv'mint (who are in with the aliens) can't read your mind! Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  14. Noice video there James. Man Rossy's fixed wing is really impressive. I was wondering why he was flying it with his hands up in front of him, and then he took off at one point.. Impressive! Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  15. I use tabs extensively as well in my daily browsing. Flash menu's are annoying for the reasons Bob listed. You can make the menus you have on your site fairly easily with CSS, as shown here (article here) Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  16. It's looking very cool Omar. I see it has become quite a site. Nice. I also see you guys have quite a number of acrobatic moves already up. Maybe we should exchange notes. We've been working on a number of acrobatic moves as well, and I'm curious to hear what some of them are. As for design elements, I prefer CSS to Flash, although with Internet Explorer not being very standards compliant this can often be a pain. If you send me the URL I'll take a look at it. 17. Very nice pics, James. Now I wanna go too.. when's the next Swiss wingsuit boogie?
  18. Hey everyone, Jarno and I had some inspiration so we hacked together a little webpage for Holland's best (and only) wingsuit team!
  19. Yeah I too am regularly sore after a weekend of wingsuiting. I've also noticed my chest and arm muscles increase in strength and size. I guess wingsuiting is a workout in itself, but I think to be able to get full performance out of a wingsuit you need to workout certain muscle groups as well. If you're looking for wingsuit specific workout tips, Scott has this covered in his book. Unfortunately I don't have the discipline to go out and do the excercises regularly. Oh yeah and stretching in the morning before the first jump helps too. Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News

  22. Haha, which reminds me of another one: - on a freefly jump, you pull your pilot out with both hands behind your back (as I can be seen doing in this video (at 07:08). Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News

  24. I'll try it out next time and let you know. But why a GPS? A protrack would show the vertical descent rate too, or do you want horizontal speed as well? In which case there are other factors invovled, like angle of your body during dive & flare and stuff like that. Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
