Darius I had a real wake up call back in 2005/2006 while working in downtown Vancouver. Prior to this I had spent 8 absolutely fantastic years in Colorado. But let's be honest here, Colorado is mainly white and hispanic. Hardly an environment to test your racial tolerance. I swear in Vancouver I was working at the United Nations. In our office there was only 3-4 of us traditional Canadian white guys. We had Chinese (expected in Vancouver), we had people from India (also expected) but here is where things really took off. We had people from South America, Pakistan, all over Europe especially eastern Europe. In fact the entire QA department was staffed by Russians (I swear it had to have been a conspiracy). The only continent that was not represented in my office was Africa. But I guess software development has not caught on there ... yet. Anyway it was a real wake up call. For the most part, the vast majority of these immigrants were smart intelligent hard working people. You are correct we hear about the bad apples. For every bad apple we hear about, there are smart hard working people who only want to better themselves. I would just like to see the bad apples tossed out of the country instead of our "hug a thug" mentality here. But this has nothing to do with Israel and Palestine. Have at it folks. I am off to the local race track this afternoon to drive my totally awesome German car around the track as fast as I possibly can. I don't think peace will ever come to Israel and Palestine. There is just too much bad blood on both sides. But as messed up as this conflict is, I think the real danger to the free world continues to grow in Pakistan. As fucked up as my country is (a country that allows a mother to murder her own daughter yet still be a free woman, a country that allows a judge to free a mentally deranged father despite the police warning to the judge that the man was dangerous and then the father proceeds to murder his three children, a country that allows you to walk on a Greyhound bus and proceed to decapitate an innocent young man and cannibalize his body by eating his eye balls in front of shocked on lookers and still not be found criminally responsible and allowed to have daily leisurely walks outside at the low security mental institute, a country that allows a man to admit in a court of law that he built the bomb that blew up an airplane that killed 329 people and yet still be allowed to walk as a free man in society). As fucked up as my country is. It is actually one of the better countries in the world. I guess what I am saying is, is that humans are a cancer to this planet with so much hate brewing around us. Let us who live in relative peace be thankful and enjoy each day to it's fullest because you never know when someone will murder you for no reason, you never know when rockets will reign down on you or some bomb will explode next to you. Tax evasion occurs in many more areas than you think. Of course you target corporations and the rich because these are people/entities you hate. But imagine if drugs dealers paid taxes on their earnings. Imagine if handyman contractors paid taxes on their earnings instead of engaging in their underground economy. If you are going to go after tax evaders, you need to go after everyone, not just the demographic you despise. Of course one can argue the solution would be to eliminate income and capital gains taxes and replace them with higher consumption taxes. But I am not convinced this will solve the problem. More people will just be driven to the underground economy. Keep playing until a goal is scored. You can't get much more simple than this. If it takes six hours to score, it takes six hours. They do it in the NHL. Hockey and soccer (or football if you choose to call it this) have enough similarities. If they can play until a goal is scored in hockey they can play until a goal is scored in soccer. I understand the "extra time" rule and personally I think it is a dumb rule. But what can I say, I grew up on a steady diet of the NHL where come playoff time they play until a goal is scored and once scored the game is over. Hats off to South Africa for hosting the World Cup. They did an excellent job and it looks like it will go down as the 3rd highest attended World Cup. World Cup attendance 3rd-highest ever: FIFA The final wasn't the best game. But it ended very dramatically and I am so much happier that it ended with a goal versus ending with penalty kicks. But of course I must ask FIFA why the game didn't end immediately after Andres Iniesta scored his goal.
