  1. Even though we have only met maybe a dozen times in real life, BikerBabe appears to know me well. Guilty as charged, I did vote "Right of Center" in this DZ.COM poll. I do view myself as a bit right of center ... and often agree with the right leaning political parties more than the left. But I draw the line when the right brings their religious beliefs into politics. As an example I am pro-choice but I am also pro-capital punishment when it comes to some crimes. Haha ... whatever normal is, I assure you I am not it. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  2. Haha ... I answered honestly and the results were kind of what I expected, except it has labeled me as: Social Liberal (63% permissive) I hate being called a Liberal (even if I have some Liberal beliefs) ... fuck ... I am not a Liberal ... but ... I was also labeled as: Economic Conservative (70% permissive) pretty much what I expected on the economic side of things and ... I am best described as a: Libertarian another totally expected result. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  3. You know what they say: "Arguing on the internet is like competing at the Special Olympics. Even if you win, you are still retarded" Now how is that for NOT being politically correct? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  4. Yes they are accurate. "The gun registry is not about confiscation" - Alan Rock (former Liberal MP and instigator of the Gun Registry) Alan Rock you are a lying SOB!!! Of course you were a politician so lying is to be expected. The gun registry was never about stopping criminals from using firearms in their crimes and was instead was all about confiscation. 5. Problem is, Sweden's too goddamn cold. On the other hand, the Dutch Belgians have kick-ass chocolate, and the Germans have the best pretty good beer ever. And sometimes, we have hot summers I like Germany ... You make the best cars in the entire world and you let your people drive those cars very fast on certain sections of your Autobahn. To top it off, if the Autobahn isn't enough for some, Germany has Nordschleife at the Nuerburgring. I would relocate to Germany if I knew the language and was allowed to play on Nordschleife with Sabine Schmitz who is not only an awesome driver, but she also holds a helicopter pilots license endorsement. You have to like a woman who can drive the rubber off of a car on Nordschleife and then ferry you up to altitude for a jump in her helicopter. I am in love, well maybe just lust.

  7. I spent 8 fantastic years in Colorado working as a software developer using a temporary NAFTA TN-1 work visa. The visas are easy to get if you meet the basic qualifications (in otherwords you need to possess experience and education in a field that the US considers "careers in demand"). But the TN-1 is only good for one year and only good for one employer and you must reapply for them whenever they expire and by law you must leave the country within 10 days of when the visa expires. In my first 4-5 years working with the TN-1, INS was nice to me. But as the years progressed they (INS) turned into total assholes to the point when I said "fuck this I am through with your INS bullshit, I am going to return to my native Canada". Of course the TN-1 is a temporary visa (I knew this before I even moved to CO). But the people working at INS can be total pricks when they want to. Around 2001 I applied for my TN-1 at the Alberta Montana border and the INS agent who handled me was awesome. Then a couple of years later the exact same INS agent handled my application and was a total prick towards me. Same job, same INS agent but totally different experience. Funny how the US ignores illegal immigrants but can be 100% assholes to those who choose to enter the country legally. But it is your country, you can do whatever it is you want to do there. While I miss Colorado, I can still lead a decent life up here in Alberta. The USA needs to get their economic act in order before I consider moving down there again. But Colorado did rock!!! It is an awesome state!!! Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  8. Both Montreal and Philly bring a lot of momentum into their respective series, but I have to think that the western teams San Jose and Chicago still have the better teams and I will go out on a limb and predict the Stanley Cup will go to a western team this year. But stranger things can and will happen. Who thought Montreal would beat Washington and Pittsburgh? Who thought Philly would become only the 3rd team in league history to come back from a 3-0 deficit in games? I said it early in this thread. A great goalie can beat a good team. I am hoping for a Montreal / Chicago final (2 original six teams) and ... Montreal has not won the cup since 1993 Philly has not won the cup since 1975 Chicago has not won the cup since 1961 (at least they are not the Cubs) San Jose has never won the cup since joining the league in 1991. someone's bad streak will end this year. 10. Good stuff (you taking the MSF class). Over a decade ago I took a MSF class and they had us riding over old tires and crates of wood in the parking lot to prove to ourselves that certain objects in the road are more safely ridden over rather than trying to swerve around them. Many people have crashed trying to swerve around things like pot holes when they could have easily ridden over them. But when the time does present itself where you must instantly change direction, counter steering could save your life one day. Also unless you are ultra current on the bike, don't be afraid to take to a vacant parking lot every now and then to practice what they taught you in your MSF class. Practice your emergency braking, practice your counter steering, etc, etc, etc. BTW ... did they also teach you the optimal places to place yourself for maximum visibility in traffic? That was another great piece of information I was given in my MSF class. Always expect the unexpected out there on the public roads and assume the other drivers do not see you. 12. Detroit is running out of lives. But they are not done yet. The Fat lady still does not know what city she needs to travel to. The Wings must win 4 of the next 5 games. But while Shark fans can be somewhat happy today, they need to be reminded that many teams have come back from 2-0 series deficits. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  14. I wasted 2 1/2 hours of my life last night after renting a different utterly crappy Hollywood movie. I rented "2012" and it was one of the worst pieces of junk I have ever seen. Hollywood appears to be getting worse every year. PS: I did rent "The Hurt Locker" a few months ago and I was entertained, but many parts of the movie did appear to be rather sensationalized and since I have never been in a war zone it's hard for me to know exactly what is what. But I have heard war described as 99.9% boredom followed by 0.1% of sheer horror. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  15. Well your Sharks did survive their first round match up beating the Avs in 6 games. So your dream of the Cup is still alive. But they still need 12 more wins. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  17. In 2009 everyone at the company I work at had their salaries frozen. Then this year the company is going through numerous rounds of layoffs. Most people have already been let go. I have 3 weeks of employment remaining and the entire operation will be closing it's doors 5 weeks from now as the people at the top have decided to ship all of the jobs out of the country. I will be fine in the short term. I am lucky I have low debt and I do not live paycheck-to-paycheck. But count yourself lucky if your salary has gone up 2%. You could work for the same people I work for (an organization that purchased a profitable company and proceeded to run it into the ground with poor executive decisions). 18. Don't let Al Gore know about this. He and the rest of his associates are still planning on making billions and billions scamming the world into adopting his "OMG all life on this planet will end in 5 years if you do not adopt my carbon trading" scheme. 20. "Hey Upham, careful you don't step in the bullshit!" - Private Daniel Jackson (from the movie "Saving Private Ryan") One game does not make a series. All that happened last night was that San Jose tied the series with the Avs 2-2 (a series many people thought would be over by now). The Sharks may go on to win this series (as they were expected to do), but you don't want to chant "We are the champions" drum too much so early in the playoffs. It is a rather long way to fall if the Avs were to pull one out of the hat. I've seen it happen many times when a great goalie beats a good team. 21. That is a great video. I can't watch YouTube at work since YouTube is blocked in the office so I had to wait until I got home (WTF can you believe it, the nerve of my employer, I mean really WTF, I am entitled to my entitlements ... LOL). Seriously, everyone who complains about modern life should be forced to watch this video, over and over and over, etc, etc, etc. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. Hey if humans can create alternate fuel out of weeds, power to the evolution of human ingenuity. They can come over to my house anytime they want and harvest the weeds on my lawn. Hybrids still use the dino juice. Don't get me wrong, hybrids and electric cars make perfect sense for the city dweller. It's when you get out into the country where they become less viable (hybrids of course are much more viable than their electric car counter parts out there in the sticks, especially when the temperatures dip below -30). But hey you must have missed it, a few weeks ago I mentioned here that there are some hybrid cars I actually like. The Porsche GT3R Hybrid recently took 3rd place in a VLN endurance race at Germany's famed Nurburgring iconic race track and that is a very impressive result. Of course there is a lot more technology going into the GT3R Hybrid than the 2 million or so other hybrids on the US roads you speak of. But you can count on Porsche (and some of the other automakers) who engineer their cars through race experience to help push automotive car technologies further (look what F1 was doing last year with the KERS systems, even though the F1 teams have abandoned KERS for the time being). When an electric car wins the "24 Heures du Mans" race, then you know the time of electric cars are here. In the meantime, further research in bio-fuels for the aviation world is probably the best alternate available today unless of course nuclear does not prove to be better. I don't know, I am just an aging low life software developer. I will leave nuclear technology to the nuclear scientists. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  23. None of the alternatives you present are remotely mature enough to replace the existing fleet of airplane technology anytime soon in regards to how modern society has become dependent on the airplane to transport goods and people around the planet. - The closest alternative is probably the bio-fuels option. But using food to fuel our cars has not gone over that well lately. Hard to say. Worth further exploration, but what is more important? Growing the food to feed the planet or growing the food to produce alternate fuels? - Nuclear power is compelling. Possibly something we will see more of in the future, but the tree huggers certainly won't be advocating nuclear and nuclear power has the whole issue of where to dispose of the waste. Plus I do not know enough about nuclear powered aircraft to know what would be the consequences of airplane crashes. Humanity has a long way to go before we will ever rid ourselves of our mistakes in regards to crashing airplanes. - Solar powered aircraft only work on light applications (at least with our current technology), and ... - Electric powered aircraft? Same sort of thing. It may work on a small aircraft, but not large applications. Batteries are heavy just by themselves. Then you get into the pandora's box of "where did the electricity come from stored in the batteries? and how will you expose of the batteries once they live out their useful lives". Of course if humans want to continue flying in the centuries to come, they will need to seek alternate fuels since there is only a century or so left of the known oil reserves around the globe, so I am not saying these alternates should not be explored. They just have a long long way to go before they can replace what exist today. In the mean time, as long as humans continue to look to the sky, human flight is not in jeopardy anytime soon. Leonardo da Vinici was correct. Once humans have tasted flight, they will continue to yearn for it. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  24. A world without airplanes? Hmmm ... I know the tree huggers yearn for such a world. But how about the rest of us? A world without airplanes would be a world going backwards as far as I am concerned. But I am pretty certain that unless an apocalyptic event was to strike the planet, there will still be a world of human flight. Now that humans know how to create wingsuits and BASE rigs (not to mention paragliders and hang gliders), you know human flight will always be an option for those who have access to a large enough cliff and who possess enough physical fitness to haul themselves up to the various exit points. I am pretty sure we will see Calvin soring in the skies for some time still. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
