  1. I stand corrected, to call it insane is a insult to insane people everywhere. At least insanity usually is close to geniality and popping out 14 kids whilst on welfare....
  2. My English can be a bit off at times, but I tend to prefer the options that are the least violent. (One exception would be that dog whisperer Cesar Millan, whit him I'd like to see an option that involves rabid pit-bulls on crystal meth) As for "it's not the religion" I have to admit that due to conflicting texts in the bible it's possible to interpret the Bible in non-violent ways. And indeed the teachings of Jesus don't leave a lot of room for violence, however they don't neutralize the more disturbing texts that are mainly in the OT. At least not in my interpretation of it, and not in the interpretation of many modern and even more historical Christians. Islam has a lot less room for interpretation, btw, but that's another story. I'm not devangelical about my irreligious stances. In my experience faith or lack there off usually doesn't make people worse or better. People have certain opinions and they search in their religion for texts that support those opinions, not the other way around. We don't even have to search for texts, us non-believers just have opinions and support them with random one-liners. "Live and Let Live" would be one of mine, mind you I'm more into that IRL than in the SC. You would laugh your ass off if you would witness my intolerance for religion IRL. The most heinous display of it would probably be when I godfathered the youngest of my best friend. I just like heated discussions but I know better then to do those IRL. I only get pissed if someone tries to impose their religion (or lack there off) on me or someone else. And that seldom happens over here. Sure, praying is stupid, but more important, it's usually harmless, and that's far more important in my book. I do all kind of stupid but harmless things myself, btw, so who am I to judge? So do I blame the religion? Yes, sir, I do, but in case of Christianity I judge what I see as the real religion. But there's literally millions of personalized versions of the religion. Are all those evil as well? Nope. In fact I believe many/most people are apatheists like me. They use (ir)religion to justify what they think, and if they cant find the texts to support it, they find a way to get around that.
  3. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left_Behind:_Eternal_Forces Absolutely nothing wrong with a computer game that promotes (among other things) a holy war.
  4. Pops, you remember I got all bleeding heart liberal on everyone when those kiddies got pepper sprayed. Surely you aren't being serious when you imply that I condone mass-murder by atheists, or anyone else? Organized mass-murder by atheists is usually the result of people making atheism the state (ir)religion. I'm opposed to that because I support freedom of (ir)religion, like most Western atheists. Atheism has no moral implications it doesn't even imply that atheism is preferable over anything else, thus it isn't a very good reason to kill. State atheism however gives you all the material to persecute religious folk. As for the teachings of Jesus: the amount of Christians that practice what Jesus taught is close to 0%. People don't love their enemy, they don't sell all their stuff to follow Jesus and they don't turn the other cheek. As for me behaving myself: AFAIK I'm behaving good enough for the SC because I'm still not banned. And my opinion may be offensive to you, but it won't limit your freedom in any way, nor will my opinion persecute you and send you to a Gulag. I'm just the next rather harmless heathen, get over it.
  5. If it turned out that the bible was right, I think I would take my chances with Satan. He seems to be the reasonable one of the two. I'm not judging him on his words but on his actions (according to the bible that is, of course)
  6. Your source strikes me as really independent. Not. But yes, I admit some of the worst mass murderers where atheists. I however doubt that their atheism was the first cause of their bloodthirstiness. The Bible offers plenty reasons to kill people, "There is no God" offers none. You need something else than just atheism. Ironically, it's mostly Christians who claim this. Atheists usually know better than that; they probably don't need a god because they usually can behave themselves?
  7. But people like Abe really knew how to swallow Gods **** and lick his ***** in the mean time. Sometimes I do think God exists, and God is only trying to find out how far people go to get on his good side.
  8. I think many doctors would have said no to that, maybe some/many even did, I would have said that. But ultimately someone is going to say "Okay, great idea" or "I really need the money" and there you go. And there are simply no laws against that.
  9. Yeah, well you were here first, you hypocrite. But true that. I was almost tempted to open my own religious thread, but people might begin to suspect I'm not a big fan of religion, and I can't have that.
  10. As luck would have it, Christian history is full of all kinds of colourful thingies. Like the tens of thousand of people murdered over the fictional crime of flyingaroundwiththehelpofanointmentcontainigchristianbabyfat a.k.a. witchcraft.
  11. That's true, and all Muslims should strive to make the world Islamic and thus bring it under sharia law, but only a minority seem to do an effort to get to that goal.
  12. It's all part of the religion, but AFAIK most Western Muslims more or less ignore the more disturbing parts of their religion. The amount of Islamists in Europe is alarmingly low from a true Islamic POV I would reckon.
  13. So let's assume all those kiddies have 2 parents, that's at most 15000 evil muslims, so at most 15000/2869000 * 100% = 0,52% of the Muslims are evil theocrats.
  14. I'm afraid it's kinda hard to make it illegal, but sometimes you'd wish one would need a kid licence or something to prevent this type of insanity.
  15. No Germans! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero_Degree_Turn Shah, I hope your Persian is better than mine!
  16. The movie "Schindler's List", based on a true story has more or less the same story line.
  17. The world will end in exactly one year or so the Mayans claimed. So your best bet is to pray to the Mayan Gods: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayan_gods Merry Christmas everyone.
  18. In case of Christianity the "baseball bat" comes with a description of groups of people you should kill with it. And then there's of course the history of the religion that's even more depraved than the book. While the book orders the dead of people for victimless crimes, thought crimes and imaginary crimes, it never ordered that said people should be tortured or even tortured to death. On the other hand, your god is said to eternally torture people over victimless crimes, thought crimes and imaginary crimes, so, well, the example is there. As for the evil atheists: unlike the bible the phrase "there is no god" doesn't contain a message of hatred, intolerance and bigotry, so you really need something else to be a megalomaniac mass-murderer. Whatever that is, I reject it. Christians however consider their book as the greatest achievement of humanity and don't reject the parts of it that are evil. Of course it's the religion, it's so obvious that I wonder how it's possible that people don't see it. Do people twist the religion? Yes, all the time, and that's the good news. Many manage to twist the message of the bible into something good.
  19. If you compare the history of Christianity to other religions it's rather obvious that Christianity is extremely violent and intolerant. What do you think happened to all other religions in Europe? Sure some heathens fell for the catchy message and if the catchy message wasn't enough, violence was always an option. The only other religion that was more or less tolerated under Christian rule was Judaism. between the persecutions that is of course. I like to discuss explosive topics because it's entertaining. I'm not arrogant enough to think I can change the world. As for Christianity being an good target. Yeah well, that's mostly due to the fact that many Christians don't really handle the reality of their religion well. Modern Christianity isn't very violent, but historical Christianity is a whole other kettle of fish.
  20. Alas, no statistics, not that anyone with a vague notion of the history of Christianity in Europe would describe the period between 1811-2011 in any other words than "the collapse of Christianity"
  21. A Google search page does not support your claim that the Western world was 100% Christian 100-200 years ago. Good one, luckily I'm not afraid to say that that claim wasn't valid. "Close to 100% was Christian" or "A great majority was Christian" would have been better. let's go from there. I'll see what I can find.
