So you say that if I make a generalizing statement about one aspect of US society I'm saying that all US states are the same? If I say that the US is the top exporter of grain does that mean that all states export a lot of grain? Oh well, I should have brought in a little nuance. So let me rephrase: Every time I come across an example of PC that makes my coffee/beer/coca cola squirt out of my nose. Every time I think "This PC nonsense must be a hoax, right? ..............Right!?!" Every time I'm exposed to an example of PC that makes me check if the date isn't April 1st, it comes from the US of A. Coupled with my impression that these incidents don't appear out of thin air but are signs of a more structural socio-logic phenomenon, it let me draw the conclusion that the US is the most PC or one of the most PC nations on the planet. There's of course regional variety. Happy now?

NL has 2 official indigenous languages that can be divided into 21 distinct dialects. Some of those (Dutch) dialects are so unlike my (standard) Dutch that I have trouble understanding them, one I can hardly understand. Linguistically we're very diverse, especially if you take our size in consideration. So no, I don't think the NL is as diverse as the whole of the US, but we're certainly not as boring as a single US state.

And those two statements are conflicting because..... ?

Gingrich wanted ‘open marriage’ with both wife and mistress
Marinus replied to jclalor's topic in Speakers Corner
A society that changes may be doomed, a society that doesn't change is surely doomed. -
Well since Germany is a federal state, like the US, it would be more like bunching in the US with All the countries on the North American continent and treat you all the same. But that would be ignorant of course. Besides I don't think I ever made the mistake to think of all American states as being the same.

Since it's apparently time to throw around biblical texts: Matthew 7:3 It's no the imperfection, it's the imperfection combined with a tendency to whine about similar imperfections (or "imperfections" if you will) in other people. -
Well, I guess technically holocaust denial and hate-mongering are PinC...... And technically it's PC -nonsense if you're opposed to those things. Still somehow your representation of the facts seems a bit FOX-ish. Also is sort of implies you set holocaust denial on par with niggardly, but then again you also seem to think Europe = EU. Semantics are my friend too
-
Well, that's probably true, but you know, it's kinda fun to rub it in anyway. You of all people should understand that. Nah, you're my favourite semi-bridge dweller.
-
I'm Sorry Bill, but Europe =/= Germany. You might want to rephrase your point in a way that's less ignorant.
-
I doubt that your FOX News source is anywhere near accurate about that, but ultimately I don't care because I'm not a German. And just get over it, you're fucked up in the PC department as a people. I don't think the Germans are even able to produce anything as fucked up as that "niggardly" BS.
-
Since the "niggardly controversy" it's clear you guys are the world leaders in PC hysteria. We don't even try to be more hysteric about PC than you guys any more, because it's clear you're the ultimate winners in that field. You'll always beat us to PC hell, you know, that place that exchanged humour for whiny bitches (m/f)

So you want the guy to have a professional sex life? Well a gigolo for president would be refreshing...... Personally I think whatever someone does in his bed room is no one's business as long as it doesn't reflect on his or her job. -

The wife looks like an idiot too, nothing as pathetic as throwing your own private life in the open like that, to get your revenge. Normally I wouldn't bother myself with the private lives of others, btw, but if the "other" is a meddling twat himself, he or she is fair game as far as I'm considered. And I always love to see hypocrites go down, of course. -

True, unless his private life is somehow of importance in regard of his politic views, which is the case here. If you preach family values, you better make damn sure that your private life is in, uhm, family value condition.. A typical case of "Judge and be judged". -
Very interesting article, thanks for posting.

That should give us an idea how long we have to deal with creationists.

Oh, I came close enough. But I'll be the first to admit that I only know the basic stuff about the anthem. And I don't think it's interesting enough to read the whole wikipedia article like you did. Well, you probably don't know a whole lot of Germans, and ignorance is a common cause of bigotry.
-
Dus je hebt ook nog wat issues met Duitsers? Wel, mss moet je je daar na 67 jaar eens overheen zetten.

Yeah, maybe you should read a bit about the concept of humour. I know enough of the history of the Father of the Fatherland to know what the Wilhelmus is all about. I was just fooling around, an I thought that was rather clear.
-
To be honest you're partly right. The national anthem is over four centuries old, and back then we (the Germans and the Dutch) were all called Dietsch. However, the second line is about a specific person (Willem of Nassau) Who happened to be from an area that's now German. I think that's why in the modern translation it kinda stuck as the word Duitsen which is literally German. It also says we "honour the king of Spain" later in that verse, and we gained independence from that sucker about 60 years later.

footage emerges showing U.S. troops urinating on dead Afghan bodies
Marinus replied to jclalor's topic in Speakers Corner
No he didn't. He's just being the next whiny bitch that thinks the world is liberally biased against America. The Mogadishu incident caused a widespread outrage in and outside the US. And I know of the other incidents without having to use google. Both made the evening news here. -
Yeah, but he's special and stuff.... , and we love him etc. Apparently he thinks we're after him to cause his ultimate downfall or something.

If Coreece would points a gun at me IRL, I would accept-Jesus-as-my-lord-and-saviour on the spot.

So you meant me, but on rereading that post you discovered that I wasn't joking about Nazi's committing genocide. And since you, unlike some people here can't "Man up" and admit he's wrong, you keep pretending I wrote that, that's indeed: Oh, and you are a right about one thing, falsely accusing someone of condoning genocide is probably a PA.
