  1. Well I can tell you new they used to cost about $175. I bought 2 used and payed about $40 a piece and I'm very happy with what I have. It woudl be nice to have a pro-track but the money saved is a lot of jumps. Yes they have only one warning altitude and they do that well.
  2. Well on the surface its sounds just to good to be true. Because it is. Lets get real how about everyone post what injuries occured on their DZ in the last 12 months and what the jump numbers vs wing loading was. I think that most of you will be surprised, my bet is students under lightly loaded canopies and very experienced jumpers under heavily loaded canopies, and not so many mid time jumpers, as always seems to be stated. My DZ in the last 12 months 1. 4th jump student off field landing, failure to flair broken leg. 2. 80 jumps hook turn falcon loaded at about 1.1 compound fracture of tib fib and many other breaks and bruises. Now how about an honest report from other DZ's / /
  3. The problems I see are a little different. First all the stats point to the fact that its not the low timers getting killed under canopy. Last months parachute showed an average of over 1000 jumps. Most have over 500. Not to say the low timers shouldn't be taught about wing loading and coached. Its just not the main problem. Also to often someone asks whats the flight difference between say a Cobalt 120 and a Crossfire 119 and after 10 post the answer they got was you don't need to know because you shouldn't be jumping that canopy. Sorry folks buts thats not education. If you really want to educate then tell them the flight characteristics and then explain what jump numbers would be appropiate for that canopy. If I call you stupid anything I say after that falls on deaf ears. If you post something that does not answer their question they think your stupid. If I ask about a canopy and someone asks me about life insurance they lost any credibility they might have had. The sad truth is many times they are right about the canopy but will never get their point accross. . .
  4. Why can't people on this board just answer a question? Profiles arn't always right ( mine isn't). A simple answer would surfice, and then maybe a question about experience I've jumped both and owned a Heatwave I thought the Heatwave turned a little quicker, was a little more stable and had more bottom end flair. But they were both very similar. A stiletto flyer would probably like it more. The frabric I guess it depends on who you ask. When I had my Triathlon Aerodyne said that the frabric had better longevity then the stuff PD uses, now they have an ex-PD employee and they say different. Atair and PISA both said there were no issues with the material and that it would last as long or longer then the PD material so who knows. . .
  5. I think it may have more to do with, when a low timer asks a question he/she gets flamed for 10 post before they get an answer. Why not just pad the logbook for forum purposes
  6. I have to say education is the only thing that works. Regulations don't mean a damn thing. First off compare apples to apples. Cars, trucks and planes have nothing to do with skydiving. Lets look at pull altitude, there is a min pull altitude but is that what stops you from going low the rule? I don't think so on any given jump you can pull where ever you want to no one can stop you until after the jump. You pull where you do because of education. Now after land the DZ can ground you, but they could do that after a low timer swooping too couldn't they? As for creating more rules because its thought that people are outside the norm trying to fly to small of canopies, it just isn't so. The people that bounce would bounce on anything, they might live but they would bounce. The truth is most 100 jump wonders can fly a 1.3 wing loading with no trouble. Very few try to go much more. Accidents on my DZ- broken leg female student under a Manta 288 very light wing loading. Broken leg male 150 + jumps Triathlon 190 light loaded. FUBAR 80 or so jumps Falcon 175 loaded at about 1.1 Uninjured- male 250 jumps downsized from a Sabre 170 to a Xaos 108 over 100 jumps on canopy no problems Male 500 jumps downsized from a Sabre 150 to xaos 108 no problems 125 jumps started jumping stiletto 135 loaded about 1.4 over 100 on canopy 150 jumps started jumping a Nova 120 (yes a Nova) loaded at about 1.4 no problems The list goes on. Be real and list the injuries at your dropzone your going to find mostly lightly loaded canopies, and the ones on higher loaded wings hook turning would have burned in on anything! - -
  7. I can honestly say I had no issues with my Hornet 150 loaded at about 1.4 as I stated before it would fly circles around a Sabre.(I've never flown a Sabre2) It had plenty of lift on the bottom end, in fact it would pop me up at the end of the flare. It did have fairly heavy riser pressure though.
  8. I loved my Hornet went from it to a Heatwave. The Hornet was a quality canopy (according to my rigger) and I found the openings were great. I put a few jumps on a Sabre and the Hornet out flew it hands down, it opened much better also. I have never jumped a Sabre 2 so I can't compare the two but the Hornets a great canopy. I guess its like all the others though a bad one can slip out there once in a while.
  9. I have no problems with mine. I jump with a full face most of the time, once the visor blew open and I still didn't loose a contact. Although they did get really dry on that jump. I also jump with a frap hat and a bone head wearing goggles like I said no problems, I have never lost one.
  10. 5 SL 1 hop n pop 3 5 sec 3 10 sec 3 15 sec 3 20 sec 1 30 sec sky's the limit, I was lucky all my jumps went like clock work with no problems. Of course this was 1975 and I think things were a little less stringent back then.
  11. Love my digitude, I sent mine back to the factory and for a small fee they replaced the case, the LED cleaned it up and calibrated it. It is one of the first one's and they said it was "dead ass on"
  12. Well, Frank I applaud your courage and dedication to the sport. If others can't see how this can only benefit everyone that jumps at your drop zone, then I would have to say they are in denial. I hope other DZ's follow suit! As far as vicarious liability goes. Anybody can sue anyone anytime for anything. There is always a hungry lawyer ready to take a case with suspected deep pockets! Drug testing will make little difference.

    glasses?

I went to contacts for this very reason. It took me one day to get used to the contacts, not a real problem at all. I wear daily wear which means I throw them away after one use, they are very thin I can hardly tell they're there.
  14. Well this may not have been done in awhile so the first thing you want to do is: 1. Hold the unit upright and turn the gold dial clockwise until it stops. (you don't have to do this everytime, but its good to do once in awhile or it can come apart inside.) 2. Turn counter clockwise until the alarm goes off, stop 3. Turn back clockwise each mark on the outside of the dial = 1 thousand feet. So turn it back how many thousand feet you want it to be set. 4 lines would = 4 thousand feet.
  15. Well I'm 200 out the door and had a ride on my Tempo 150 loading of 1.33. I had no problems at all. You would be loading yours around 1.23 so the canopy will handle it if your skills will. As for service aerodyne is taking over that and you should get better service from them then you would have from PISA. So I don't know about you but I'm keeping mine.
  16. Well a little comparison. Chaos 21 on retail on web site $2195 Icarus VX retail on web site $2495 Icarus FX $2295 PD does not give a price on the velocity.
  17. I would really give aerodyne a call. They have excellent customer service and I'm sure would be more then willing to help out. When I had my triathlon all my openings were great with the exception of one. It opened so hard I broke lines and had to cut away. I still don't know for sure what caused it, but it only happened onece.
  18. I think the problem is when you start requiring or making laws to protect people from themselves, where do you draw the line? Who do you let make the rules? It starts with AAD, then as stated earlier canopy size, then maybe reserve size, then helmets, boots, the type of jump suits ect. You may say well I'm only talking about AAD's but some one right behind you thinks no one should jump a small canopy, or no one should swoop. The bottom line you really can't protect people from themselves, nor should you.
  19. I had the 4.0 mod done when I had my triathlon. The openings were better, slower, and softer heading was never a problem with that canopy. I didn't notice much difference in turns, toggles or risers but I did notice a litter more power in the flair. Packing was strange at first but I got used to it fairly quickly. All said it was a good mod worth haveing done.

    Digitude

I sent mine in, they put a new case and a new LED and checked calibration. All for about $30 bucks. It came back like new!
  21. The problem here is age old in skydiving. I remember when only a fool would fly a square canopy, reguardless of jump numbers. Then students started flying squares. Of course there was the time that only very experienced jumpers flew ZP canopies now students fly them. There was a time when no student should use a BOC now no so clear. All students started staic line and only a fool would put a fist jump student out on a 60 sec free fall. Then the elipticals; one needed at least 500 jumps to jump one, now 100 jump wonders are doing fine on them. The bottom line is every few years things change and the last generation has a hard time with it. The facts; not all elipticals are created equal, not all fly the same, turn the same dive the same or spin up the same. Why can't a manufacturer make an eliptical that is ok for beginer or god forbid student jumpers? They can and probably have, but there are sceptics who are going to call it bull no matter what. So give your opinion, but that doesn't mean that someone that disagrees with you is full of shit. Hell it may be you with the poopie drawrs you just don't know it yet!
  22. Thats the best example I could have used Dave. Now go back and look at how Bill got slammed about the skyhook, how it was started in base how it was the same thing how it didn't really do anything. No matter how many times he answered the acusations another would start. As far as personal attacks I have seen hundreds where the moderators let them go, I quit going to talkback over it. Some times they stop it sometimes not. I know if I posted something and someone out right called it bull shit! well I guess I'd take that very personal.
  23. No but you used to. I'm sure they got as tired of the personal attacks as I have. People are asking for information here that no canopy manufacturer puts out., and I don't know of one that doesn't advertise theirs as the latest greatest. Chaos21 best opening canopy on the market Crossfire2 best HP 9 cell on the market. Triathlon best all around Sabre 2 best all around These are all manufacturer claims they can't all be right can they?
  24. I guess I missed something. When did that happen? What was the reason? What is he jumping now? I'm very curious if it was the canopies or the deal.
  25. Just wanted to bump it we're getting close!
