  1. I don't doubt yours are doing it, but they don't all spin up. I've had two Space 130's and am still jumping one and it opens great. I know it didn't help your problem though
  2. I think I would call a couple of people and let them know We only had a few months to live!
  3. You know ironicly what once made the stiletto a big boys canopy now makes it a novice canopy. The big problem with the stiletto when it first came out was it would spin up on opening real quick. Then some folks found out if you where square on opening it wouldn't spin up. The recovery arc is very shollow so actually the stiletto is better suited for novice skydivers then many of the so called novice canopy's . It won't be long before all students are put out on elliptical canopy's It amazes me that people will say that a sabre2 will dive hard and is a swoop machine at higher wing loading but that at low wing loadings it's a great novice canopy. But when Atair did the same thing with the Cobalt , main stream was that can't be true! Well the truth is Atair was way ahead of the curve and all students will in the near future jump eliptical canopy's
  4. You know if you just think for a minute, this is a fact of our sociality. Of course there are acceptable losses. Every year there are over 50,000 people killed in car wrecks. While we try to lower the figure we continue to drive. There are people that die in swimming pools, foot ball games, and how many die from smoking? We live in an acceptable risk culture why are we surprised when it affects skydiving?

    Digitude

Wow I guess I’ve had the opposite experience as Dave. I bought a used Digitude, the old ones had the battery cover on the top and were prone to break off. Well sure enough mine broke. I sent it back and they put a newer style case on it, (the battery cover on the bottom) put the newer L.E.D. and sent it back the cost was $25 and it took two weeks. It really was like a brand new Digitude. That was over a year ago and its been great ever since. I’m convinced and that’s all I’ll jump given the choice. Now I have seen quite a few of the older ones around different DZ's that are taped up on the battery cover, but to a person when asked they never tried to send them back.
  7. Well the Strato Star was a 180sqft canopy. Your weight was 135 + 10lbs for clothes or 145lbs total. Your gear weight was about 30 lbs. so your total weight was about 175 for a wing loading of about .97 Process body weight 175 divided by canopy sq. ft. 180
  8. I don't know how to make it clickey but if you do a search for Robin Head in the forums you will find a lot of information on this subject. Maybe some one could help out with the clickey thing.
  9. There has been much controversy on this very subject. Parachutist or skydiving magazine had an article on the same subject. The theory being that on a lightly loaded canopy you have to start your 270 turn to close to the ground. That on a heavier loaded canopy you can start your 270 much higher therefore more room for error. The reason for this is the recovery arc of the canopy. The lighter the wing loading the shorter the recovery arc. But of course canopy type has a lot to do with it too. There are people very passionate about each of these theories The ones that believe you should go to a higher wing loading to make 270’s also think you should start over with your new higher wing loading making 90’s and working you way up to 270’s. Me I don’t swoop and don’t know either way, but I would listen to your instructors, if they have the experience to teach you.
  10. Perhaps you should reconsider advertisement type threads for new products. We all like to know when new products will hit the market and how they will be desinged and what they will look like. People have been asking about the JVX for months.
  11. I,m not replying to anybody in this thread but woud like to know one thing. Has B.Germain seen anyone that he would say has not heeded to his wing loading chart that has done well or maybe even surprised him? "No one can answer this except Brian of course, but I'm sure some wantebe's will jump in.
  12. I have a question I'd like to know how you would handle in the wing loading BSR. Lets say at 200 jumps you buy a Pilot 150 your exit weight is 180 for a wing loading of 1.2 Ok now lets say over the course of 1 year you make 75 jumps and you gain 20 lbs. Now your wing loading is 1.33 at 275 jumps. Do you ground that person until they loose weight, let them jump their canopy? More importantly if you let them jump their canopy how do you word that in the BSR? This is not far fetched I did almost exactly this two years ago.
  13. Well we have had 76 replies and 10 of those were injured, wich is 12 percent. Of course this also does not include fatalities. I don't know how many jumpers one would need to poll to be a representative sample but if this is any indication it would in my mind support a wing loading BSR. Something I have not been in support of in the past. I really thought that percentage would be much lower. Any other thoughts on this.
  14. The reason I didn't include anything greater then 500 jumps is that most of the proposed BSR wing loading restrictions would be for under 500 jumps. You guys that hurt yourself after that don't count you would have been injured anyway.
  15. True enough but would they be effected by a wing loading BSR?
  16. I thought with all the talk about wing loading BSR's still going on it wouldn't hurt to see what happened in the real world. When did you start jumping a 1.4 or higher wing loading and did you get injured doing it? You can choose multiple answers so you can pick #5 with the others. If this has already been done sorry.
  17. You see because you do certain things then you think it won't happen to me. Same thing the inexperieced pilot thinks when he buys the small elliptical canopy.
  18. while I agree with your ideals the problem is we all have the it won't happen to be syndrome. If we didn’t we couldn't jump. If I really thought I was going to get put in a wheel chair or worse I would quit right now. I know it can happen but lets get real I don't think it's going to happen to me. Now it’s not much of a stretch for the wantabe’s to push the limit with the same mindset. So how do you take a mentality that is required to jump and stifle it in the right perimeters?
  19. I came close to not posting this because I know it’s not in line with the rules but I think it fits and that some of you need to hear it. I personally know of 3 incidents that happened in the last 12 months that should have been reported here. The reason they were not is that anyone posting here about an incident gets slam dunked. One incident happened at the Mardi Gras boogie last year a canopy collision on opening A lot of people could have leaned from it. Another was a friend that tried to cut away and only got one riser released it resulted in a main reserve entanglement many folks could have learned from it. But this person was not going to post here because they feared all the kicking going on. The other incident I'm not going to give away because the person feels that strong about it not ending up here. There are better ways to learn then to kick a guy when he's down. We are missing out on many learning opportunities because of the attitudes in this forum. If you really think your teaching by doing this please think again. Like I said I know of at least 3 incidents how others are out there?
  20. My nephew was published for this one. Ripples in the Pool > >She casts her stones into the pool >Demeanor distant, cold and cruel >No concern for enduring effect >With those the ripples will connect >Eyes clouded with ignorant pride >Unable to see the waves collide >Unsuspecting children and me >Set adrift in her turbulent sea >The clamor falls on deafened ear >The sirens call is all she hears >When she awakens from her dream >To distant echoes of a scream >Shallow friends and life lived too fast >Reminders of the stones she's cast >Out far beyond her selfish sight >We'll weather storm and conquer night >When once again on placid sea >We'll thank our God on bended knee > >Lee Bottger
  21. I have to confess I'm a little surprised by the Tempo problem as well. I have one and have two rides on it (tempo 150 loaded at about 1.4. I have had no problems at all with it. I have had it packed by 3 different riggers and all thought the construction was excellent. But either way they don't make them anymore so it's either used or something else.
  22. I went to a Heatwave 150 loaded around 1.33 at about 200 jumps. By the way your already jumping an elliptical canopy the Spectre. Many of the so called full elliptical canopies are not as tapered as the so called semi- ellipticals. Just food for thought.
  23. No nation building / don't know what this is Smaller government / he's working on it "Compassionate Conservative" / no doubt about it small, short-term deficit / time will tell, what's short term? 1.7M jobs to be created in 2003 /can't get em all right the economy is improving and in fact is in great shape right now! The funding for it has gone up over 37 percent. "These trailers are mobile WMD laboratories. " / We still don't know what the hell those trailers were "45 percent of all of the dividend income goes to people with $50,000" (It's actually less than 15%). / Tax cuts can't benefit the people that don't pay taxes and nor should they. Iraq is "six months away from developing a [nuclear] weapon.". / Never heard or saw anything of this sort. Here's the record of your next candidate Voting No to: F14, F15, F16 fighter jets M1 Tank Cruise and tomahawk missiles Mandatory sentencing for drug dealers selling drugs to children Death penalty even for cop killers Pro life Tax cuts Conservatives by nature don't rock the boat; they sit back and just tend to take things. Not the case anymore we're going to be liberal’s worst nightmare. Conservatives that stand up and yell for what they believe in. Oh and don't feel to bad for my ignorance, I'm 50 yrs old spent 4 years Marine Corps Viet nam era (didn't fight) and spent 11 yrs law enforcement. I have been working for a large oil company for 15 years. I have seen for many years how our government works. I also know all to well how liberals work!
  24. Agreed. Like I said the CIA never said it didn't happen. All that was said was that they could not confirm nor deney that it took place. Their was no reason on earth to doubt British intel. We share intel around the world and I hope we never quit!
