Would you feel offense if someone likened something or someone you held near and dear to your heart to taking a shit airdvr? Why would you do that to others, whatever they believe?
-
Airdvr said the topic of conversation at the Tuesday networking lunch concerned racoons and the damage they can cause. The female attorney, obviously just participating in the discussion, describes her own experience. Apparently she was in her home, in a room, and praying, as Christians do, when she heard the noise. Should she have lied, making up some other story so as not to offend anyone with Jesus? Why should she have to? Why does it offend people who don't believe, as it obviously does, any more than talking about racoons?

Of course you'll be saying that to the next Muslim who takes his prayer time at work or the next Orthodox Jew who wears his Kippah to the next corporate dinner, right? Maybe, even tell the Muslim how silly Muhammad was? Or really, isn't it just Jesus who chaps your ass?
-
I think it's interesting that it makes you cringe. Do you have the same visceral reaction to others of different religions who may display or communicate their faith?
-
Yes. I have told lies and God used to see me as a liar. The Bible says that all liars will have their part in the lake of fire. However, Jesus Christ stood in my "law place" 2000 years ago and took the eternal punishment for my countless lies upon Himself. That's the point. Now I can be seen as righteous not because of anything I've done or could do but because of what Jesus did in my place. He paid an infinite price for my infinite obligation. Now, it's not that I can't lie anymore but that I try and never lie because of what He has done for me. Repentance and trust in Jesus Christ are needed to appropriate that forgiveness. Until then, you not only stand guilty in the eyes of God but are in fact rebellious enemies. But it doesn't have to end that way. Just some thoughts. Going to the Auburn football game. Later guys. WAR EAGLE!!!

Ok, although I disagree that is ever ethical to lie, how many proper deceptive lies have you ever told? If you're like the rest of us, what would that make you...or, if I told you a bald faced lie to your face, what would you say that I was? Seriously...
-
Depends on which text you cherry pick from the bible, Paul would disagree with you on this. You think Paul advocated breaking the 10 Commandments? I don't know many theologians who would agtee.

Outside the bounds of marriage, yes.

According to the Christian view of how the world should be, human nature is indeed flawed, but then again, Christianity views lust, which is in fact rather essential to the survival of the species, also largely as a flaw. Human? Really? So if I stood in front of you and told you a bold faced lie, you wouldn't think I was a liar? You'd be ok with it because, of course, it's only human nature. Wow! You are understanding. I guess you wouldn't take it personally if the salesman intentionally "mislead" you and it cost you money. I mean, it's only human nature. Must be alright. Not legally, of course, but morally. I guess, as long as you don't get caught.

There's nothing interesting about basic knowledge about human nature. Lying simply isn't bad or evil by definition. There's lots of situations I can think of where the truth would do more damage then a lie. I would rather trust someone who's able to make this basic observation then someone who doesn't seem able too... Basic human nature, flawed as it is, is still very interesting. Anyway, that aside, what does that make you if you tell lies or what would you call me if I told you a lie?
-
Whether lying is good or bad entirely depends on the situation, but it doesn't take a whole lot to realize that lying is essential to human society. So yes, lying is natural for humans to the point we couldn't survive without it. Interesting. I wonder if we should trust anything you say or do.
-
Very true.
-
So you're ok with being a liar or with people lying to you since it's all just "natural?"

Old: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4008270;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread ...and it was funny chit back then too!! Hey Normiss...did you understand what steve meant by "chit?"
-
I guess context really does matter, huh?....
-
You're going to focus on a typo? Come on man...
-
No. Not really but you should know what you're up against. You will die someday. You're not guaranteed tomorrow. You should be terrified of the prospect of hell but that's not why you "should" tirn to Jesus. You should turn to Him because He had been so kind to provide the way for you to escape it. There is no love greater than that. Holy, without flaw, blameless in character.... Not sure how else to define morally perfect.

No doubt about it. I agree completely that it is human nature and everyone is guilty of doing it. That's not my point. The point is there is a price to pay every time you or I break the Law. Either paid by you when you die or paid in your place by someone else.
-
A mistake might be something accidental that you did to someone else. With regard to God, however, it's much more serious (e.g. Sin). Time doesn't forgive sin neither does good intentions (learning from and not doing again). That doesn't even work in our court system. A price has to be paid eventually either by you or by Jesus (in your place).
-
No "knowledge" of god is required for that. True (God's Common Grace) but it does help to do it rightly (as God intended).
-
Jesus came to save sinners. The righteous don't need saving. Guess you're good to go. But if you've ever lied, stolen, looked with lust outside of marriage, desired something that belonged to someone else, disrespected your parents, etc., you might want to reevaluate your character.

Despite what the Bible says?? How would anyone ever know anything about the personal nature of God apart from His special revelation through scripture? God's nature does not change. The God of the OT is the same God of the NT. The Bible is a "progressive revelation" of God's plan of salvation for His people. Shadowy representations in the OT are revealed more fully in the NT. The purpose of the Law in the OT is to point you to Christ. Jesus is the "perfect" representation of God's nature because it is the same. Everything "points" to Christ. God's uncompromising execution of justice in the OT is still going to take place. Jesus came in peace to save sinners in the NT. Judgment has been "postponed" but it will occur. The next time Jesus comes, He will come as Judge...and there will literally be hell to pay for those who do not know Him.
-
How could you possibly know that? Because it is in His very nature. Psalm 119:68
-
Well, there's the first misconception. Actually, God is good...perfectly good...all the time. Our problem is usually that we misunderstand what good is. Ultimately, it's based on His standard of righteousness and not our own.
