That bear was trying to play and was curious, nothing more. There's probably some idiot feeding it Luna bars and causing it to lose fear of people. Remember, Black Bears are not Grizzly Bears, much different behavior. Black Bears behavior is more like running into a dog, most are scared, some will try to eat your garbage. I've run into many bears hiking and camping alone in Virginia. All of them ran away, even the big boys, even the mother with cubs. The best way to get a Black Bear to go away is to make noise and be aggressive towards it. This reinforces their fear of people and is better for their safety and our safety in the long run. CRW at Virginia Skydive Center Every 2nd Weekend
DJL replied to DJL's topic in Events & Places to Jump
We're doing a regular get-together at VSC starting next month and I thought I'd invite the internet. For now it's a very small scale informal event - we'll do small stuff on Saturdays and larger stuff on Sunday or even break into groups for various skills. Our goal here is in reaction to the trend of people travelling to CRW weekends and courses and then not having anyone to jump with in the Mid-Atlantic region. Teams stick to themselves and everyone else flies to California or Florida for the larger events. So, we thought we'd just throw it out there that there would always be CRW on the 2nd weekend. I'll get on here and post details the week before. We're working on getting loaner gear together, working on an intro/safety brief, and also working on getting some talent to come out and really show how it's done. Anyone interested can reach me via PM here or at lockedj AT gmail DOT com. PEACE "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -

I'm sorry, are you trying to say that Gays are loose in the end or will lose in the end. I hope you understand the confusion. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -

If you're looking for someone else to keep you safe you should find another pastime. Properly trained instructors will safely get you to the point that you can start learning on your own. You are responsible for your own gear and your own actions in this sport. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -
how do you know when to pull the chute.

I'm blind so I have to use a flare Beagle. When the leash goes slack and I hear a howl it's time to pull the chute. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -

But if you dismiss and then convict someone, don't you really need to have a third tie breaker trial? I believe the case goes to a paper, scissors, rock trial. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

'Twould be down right rude not too! If someone offered you a drink you don't like why would it be rude to refuse it? Let's say you didn't like grapefruit juice and just drank water instead? It's not a matter of turning up my nose because I'm too good for that - shit, I drink Stag - it's that I just don't like that crap. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -

I'd rather go without than drink those two. Same here. When I turn it down and just don't drink anything people look at me like my head fell off. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -

Miller Light I don't understand how people drink this. I know everyone is allowed their opinion as far as beer goes but this is where I'll say they're wrong, it's piss. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -

Which ones? The facts are that the global climate has, and is changing. You can listen to Fox Noise and deny that all you want, but you'll eventually have to deal with it. All of them . . . evidently. But - meh - the Earth is so big, we may affect a small bit, but about as much as pissing in Lake Erie, and expecting it to affect the water quality in Detroit. For those of you who don't catch the reference to the Great Lakes go look up DDT poisoning for that region or the Cuyahoga River fire and tell me what happens when too many people metaphorically piss in the water. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDT http://www.ohiohistorycentral.org/w/Cuyahoga_River_Fire?rec=1642 "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

It's not a matter of belief, it's an understanding of the scientific method of evaluation. This is something that I learned well as a mechanical engineer and but unfortunately people who do not have a technical or scientific background are left feeling they should believe or not believe the opinions, not proofs, of politicians and entertainment news broadcasters. This leaves them with no true basis with which to make their decision other than conforming to the mob they most desire to appease or associate. The effect, whether they believe or don't believe, results in midguided life decisions, such as driving a Prius or failing to understand and support legislation or practices that will actually thwart global warming and the global pollution that makes fish unsafe to eat and water unsafe to drink.
