Not to deter from your question but I've never seen the phrase "great" paired with "S/L or IAD..." The only great application is getting an A-License for tunnel instructors. I do realize it's none of my business. To answer, another is Virginina Skydiving Center. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

If I read the text correctly you continued to do tandem 180's and risked the safety of unsuspecting tandem customers in your political pissing match? "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

What is the weirdest cult movie you have ever seen?

We had someone with your jump numbers/years with a D license come through who was uncurrent and packed his canopy so bad we were about to intervene and just pack it for free. Turns out he also mis-routed his bridle and since he didn't get a gear check he had a PC in tow. If he shows up again he's getting refresher training because word is he had done some strange/scary stuff in the past. Basically, jump numbers, years, and license mean nothing. You're going to have to demonstrate that you can jump safely. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Wow, that is one heads up student. Nice, the student had outside video but the AFF-I wore his camer anyway. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Yes. But never if the parameters of the particular AAD were not met for firing. This is about knowing what the equipment is supposed to do. What are the specifics of your question? "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

I'll also not answer your question with an observation from my perspective as a Tandem Instructor, someone you would be strapped to during your skydive. I don't intend on dying just so you can have fun and I take the steps to make sure that doesn't happen. That's not to say that there isn't risk but let's talk numbers. I'm a pretty new instructor and am closing in on 200 tandems so if you think about percentages with the assumption that for some reason I have to die then my success rate is 99.5%. Now if you take other TI's who have thousands of jumps that puts that rate farther into the decimals of 99.95%. However, those TI's are obviously still walking around and considering we do know have many people have died while doing tandems that puts that rate of success rate and decimal number even farther to the right...and I just don't feel like doing the math. However, here's a source: http://www.uspa.org/AboutSkydiving/SkydivingSafety/tabid/526/Default.aspx With the quote: "According to the National Safety Council, a person is much more likely to be killed getting struck by lightning or stung by a bee." So bascially, you're about to waste the money avoiding something with less of a chance of killing you than lighting or a bee sting. The fear is real, the risk is not. You said that and I provided a way to minimize the the distortion so it gives a more accurate depiction of body position. I am not contesting that putting anything on your chest strap/mudflap as an AFF-I is a bad idea. Without the wide-angle on inside vide you'll only have footage of the side of the jumper's container on a head mount, maybe a little more for a chest mount. That's the technique i was originally looking for. I'll try that next! One thing about this technique is that you need to pay extra attention to keeping pressure on the triangle where the slider is. In photo 4 you'll see that the packer has already lost some control and the lines have spread apart. On a big slick canopy like yours that will mean that the slider is no longer tight against the canopy and you'll get a hard opening. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

I disagree, I think much of learning is actually extertion and frustation and learning to use your knees, your face, elbows, feet so you're basically an octopus. In my packing classes I always say that the best way to a good pack job done quickly is several hundred pack jobs. It's all about proficiency. Of course at home you may be doing a shit job but then take it to the DZ and someone can point out improvements or errors. If you think about it, many people only have as many packs as they do jumps. No kidding their packing is crap and they take forever. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

https://vimeo.com/126996983 Fuck-up 1 is obviously the crap camera mount on main side, Fuck-up 2 is that the lines from the tumbling D-bag also could have caught on the Reserve side's camera mount. A student then executing their EPs could have dumped the reserve into their entangled instructors. At that point we're looking at a dead student and two instructors lucky to survive. Seriously, just get outside video, inside video is crap for instructional purposes. You don't have to make the student pay for the whole package, there are plenty of qualified people around the DZ who would do it for the slot and just put the raw footage on a thumb drive. THE Memorial Weekend Boogie at Virginia Skydiving Center
DJL replied to DJL's topic in Events & Places to Jump
The epic carryover from the Skydive West Point days continues at Virginia Skydiving Center in Petersburg, VA. A Skyvan and King Air (10 min to altitude) will provide a solid mix for both organized bigway jumps with Roger Ponce, organized freeflying, and goof-off jumps such as tracking dives, hoop dives, etc. Our campground with swoop pond can handle truckloads of skydivers for after hours shenanigans. Question for USPA instructional rating holders
DJL replied to peek's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Perhaps USPA should look to its own criteria for certifying rating holders. Uh, oh ... Sorry John, you lost me there. Can you explain that? Verified participation in continuing education is mandatory in a number of professions for renewal of credentials. Your efforts should go more towards DZs not taking an interest in their staff's skill and knowledge. Edited from: rubber stamping their staff's paperwork to keep their ratings. (Kind of silly to talk about people who obviously are not actually jumping with students enough to be regular staff. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -

I don't open the emails because I work for him at his DZ and have to listen to him blabbing about whatever it was, I don't know, wasn't really listening. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -
I should've known, it was a Korean woman (over the phone) and her English wasn't that great. I didn't get mad because it was just so damned funny. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

I sent flowers to a girlfriend at work who had looked after me the weekend after I had a motorcyle skid-out. The note was to read: "Timberly, thank you for taking care of me this weekend. I'm fortunate to have you in my life." What was delivered was: "Tim, thank you for care this weekend. Unfortunate to have you in my wife." Are you going to Bridge Day 2015 in West Virginia?
DJL replied to gauleyguide's topic in The Bonfire
I'm sorry, should have said that your question needed to say this (regardless of the parameters in your post) just because it's how people on this site answer polls on this site: Would you have been going to bridge day and are you now not going because of the fingerprint issue. The way these polls work is that you have to click something to see the results. People prefer to answer the question rather that hit "See Results" and in this case they want to influence the outcome in favor of supporting BASE jumpers and their organizers. It has more to do with how this site behaves. A lot of time people add "Boobies" as an option as the default "Not applicable" just so we have something to click on. You're on a skydiving website. Try basejumper.com. Most people here will respond "no" anyway just because they like clicking things. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -
It made me feel much more comfortable having students exit after me when I know that they KNOW exactly how much time to give on that specific jump run. You're kidding yourself if you think it's only students you have to worry about. There are many more experienced skydivers than students who will just not give a shit or turn their brains off. At least students have recently had some oversight and training. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
