Any dropzones out there that use a Piper Navajo?
DJL replied to gunsmokex's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yes, it's noted that with twin engines should one fail, the remaining engine can be used to fly the aircraft to the scene of the crash site. -

Way different culture. Yeah.... It's not like it is Texas City Texas in 1947... or West Texas a couple years ago... Different culture indeed. Or nearly all or North and South Dakota in the current oil boom/bust. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -
If we can't call each other out then people will do whateverthefuck with impunity. If there's nothing to hide then it's a non-issue and at the worst annoying bullshit. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Yes, but neither should there be a witch hunt. Hard proof should be provided together with putting the names out in the open. If no hard proof is available, report them to the correct people and have them investigate it. Rules should be followed (as a rule), but that goes both ways. Good care must be taken to ensure you name, shame and punish the correct person, not just someone who happened to have made a few enemies here and there. Alerting USPA will result in a shot across the bow and if someone knows they're under scrutiny hopefully they'll stop. USPA isn't some crime lab and they only know what USPA members are telling them. Trust me, I have no problem publicly shaming people who are putting others in danger. I'm sick of that shit. It's hard to call out even neighboring DZs because many of those people are our friends. However, we're not very good friends if we can't keep each other in check. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Why is the text centered? Is this a poem or something?

Yeah, that was painful to read. Hey, I guess that's why they test flight but something tells me there's an Airforce Officer checking in on that trucking school he saw the number for. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

my brother is a pilot can i jump out of his plane
DJL replied to flyingwallop's topic in Safety and Training
I'd just go for it. Take excessively careful precautions to avoid traffic, know the winds at the LZ. Take a stick and some loo roll, just in case. Helps too if the LZ owner is not surprised and angry. If you can have a catcher, much is simplified. Time it for low number of people around. Make sure cell-phones/radios work, have frequent planned contacts (eg every 15 mins). Jumpers all need adequate or better skills for the task in hand (many will not be able to judge their own limitations). Know the lat/long in case of needing rescue. Don't be afraid to call it off - and off should pre-agreed to mean one doesn't want to go, none go. Have a Plan B for rescue without authorities, and a Plan C for rescue with them. Know when to quit Plan B for Plan C. etc etc. But with good sense and a little care, a lot of thrills! You're giving this advice to someone who wouldn't even know how to get through the aircraft door? "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -

If you have to ask on an internet forum then the answer is No. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -
As an IAD student can I ask what it is about the training I am getting is subpar? What skills will I be lacking in once licensed that I will need extra training to make up for? I want to be proficient and safe skydiver so your advice is appreciated! Talk to your instructors, not some dude on the internet. What you're getting is what you're getting, they'll fill in the blanks and let you know the differences from start to finish. As several have said, you won't see any difference between the two for seasoned skydivers, just in how you scrambled the eggs. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

At Virginia Skydiving Center (Petersburg, VA - KPTB) we see a few Acrobatics flying around. I don't think it's a school, just random pilots. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

I still have a Fred Thompson shirt from his election. He played great parts in most of his movies, Old School Republican as a politician. In the Presidential race he came off as too much of a Cold War relic, some of those Red October type rolls coming back to haunt him. I was sorry to hear he'd passed, I always tried to keep an eye on what he was up to. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

I can pack anything under a 150 in less than 5 minutes with nice on heading openings without skipping steps. Part of that is that I've worked as a packer for several years so I'm efficient. The problem with skydivers is that most have only about as many pack jobs as they do skydives and that's just not enough. There's no need to make the tail tight, in fact if you do then all you're doing is separating your line groups by pulling all that material around the sides and also creating off heading openings because the rolls will windmill through opening. Only roll it enough to take in excess material, should be 6 but no more than 8 rolls. See below for a continuation of the bigger picture. Meh, let's be honest, it's probably not that big of a deal. If all else fails I like my neck and the skin under my leg straps, I'll forgo tucking in another little bit of material. The big picture: Is slider control. A lot of cheat methods for getting the canopy in the bag allow the area around the slider to split open a bit (such as folding the top half and bagging it first). If you learn to pack so that you're getting tight corners and controlling the fabric then you'll get even the most slippery canopies in easy. I've been meaning to make a video for our class. I'll post it and maybe that'll help. Again, it's hard to give canopy packing help over the internet because what you think you're having trouble with may not be what's causing the problems. It is. See post #19. There's a bigger picture here and it's that if an airplane employee feels like you're being on edge about something then it raises a red flag. Based upon this thread I feel sympathetic towards the guys who made a simple mistake and had to deal with what may have been some over-reactions on your part (don't take that the wrong way, I'm not internet shaming you). I've been taking rigs airports for 15 years and have never had an issue other than security people being interested in how it worked and what happens if the "pair of shoots" doesn't open. I'll be honest, there shouldn't be any reason to psycho pack but I don't know enough about it to say what's wrong. Is the canopy in trim? To answer you're question (strictly from my perspective) I would have to see how you propack because it shouldn't be that hard. I teach it at our DZ and in a way that is easy to learn and easy to get in the bag. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Thanks, I had seen several poorly worded explainations that PayPal wasn't doing this an escrow and the buyer could pull it at any time. From PayPal's end they said exactly what you said. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Post a video of your pack job. Also, if you're having trouble putting it in the bag with a propack then there's help but it's hard to explain over the internet. Unless you have a new canopy there shouldn't be an issue. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
