  1. Impossible with skydiving gear. Answers should come from BASE jumpers. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  2. I'd be curious to see what's going on at these DZs with line-over problems. We've always propacked our SETs and I've never packed or been under a lineover or heard of anyone at our DZ (or my previous DZs) having one. I guess this is somewhere between historical and alegorical evidence since I've only jumped at DZs using Strong gear. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  3. If you're not too far north in NJ then come down to VSC this weekend. We run AFF all through winter and temps will be in the 50s. Just get on 95 S and we're 30 south of Richmond. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  4. You also said you have a bunch of ground-launch experience so I'm sure it was no big deal. People do make a blanket statement and it's a good place to start the conversation, it's a benchmark. I've seen light people blow past that benchmark for BS reasons like they're afraid they won't be able to get back from a long spot and need better penetration when it gets windy (Oh, where to start with that one). The truth is that if you can't handle the canopy then hopefully you're smart enough to suck it up and get bored on a larger one. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  5. That's like saying that only people who have stuck their hand in fire know whether it will burn you. My perspective starts years ago with a girl at my old DZ whose very experienced boyfriend put her on a small canopy at a 1:1 ratio and now she has a broken back and now doesn't get around very well. You can't just say "well, that's like, your opinion, dude" about something every major manufacturer agrees upon. You may as well argue against math. 6. A good analogy is that smaller canopies, regardless of wind loading are like having a short stroke on a gas pedal. When you turn you very quickly pick up speed. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

    Staying Current During Winter

That metal-on-metal thing sticks out to me also. If there's one thing you can gaurantee it's that Joe-Skydiver WILL swing around wildly. Kids, don't F up your gear! Do the sewn thing BG posts in the comment.
  8. US selling ancestral Apache lands to Australian mining company. http://earthfirstjournal.org/newswire/2014/12/09/house-approves-bill-to-give-apache-lands-to-foreign-corporation/ "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  9. I got a gift certificate for that thing. Fuckers didn't tell me I'd have to travel to the UK to actually use it. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  10. Because no one has ever seen a horseshoe malfunction or a PC in tow, right? From a poorly packed and maintained system, yes. Yeah, maybe I speak too strongly to say the problem doesn't exist. What I see in people who have PO's are people who care about their gear and safety enough to want to avoid a PCiT. I do it with a short closing loop and PC packing ability. I do have to ask, if you all think this method is so superior then why don't we see it on student gear. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  11. Well, per the card, his greatness is capable of miracles. Perhaps he is a magician. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

  13. Pull-out solves a problem that doesn't exit. Use an appropriately short closing loop, ensure your bridle is protected, don't pack your PC in a way that allows slack to work it's way out. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  14. I'm in Maryland right now. We were looking on Google maps at Pearl Harbor and happened to scroll over to the marina. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  15. If you look at the marina here: 21.318021, -157.894009 all the sailboats have their booms secured portside. Why? For the easy/question answer, you wouldn't leave your sheets slack, it's not the wind, and there's no reason to try to get your sailboat to list. Additionally, it's 100% of the booms that are to port. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  16. I am older than that. So is Ron. We used to have realistic guns as kids in the 80's and I rememember when they started putting orange on the barrells or making them obviously toy looking. We were told why and it made sense. I wouldn't let any child I knew play with something that looked like a real gun. Guns are lethal tools, not toys. 17. Hey man, find a rigger who isn't part of this. There really aren't any mysteries to how closing loops break and you're not going to figure it out over the internet. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

    Bill Cosby

Yes. Until there's criminal charges and he's convicted. I decided to always hold back the guillotine after guy at my DZ just had his entire life shattered because he was accused of whipping his dick out in a parking lot. Turns out he, a 6'7" guy from India, was confused with a 5'8" blonde dude. While I think Cosby is guilty I'll hold off until the facts are layed on in a legal venue. In this case there are just too many people coming forward, I think I know where it's headed. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

You'd probably see the drone getting shot out of the sky if this happened in a US restaurant. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  20. Trail of Tears, anyone? "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  21. If you have a either a cool DZ or a fast airplane you can get away with murder and skydivers will still jump there. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  22. When I was a packer I ended up being the default closing loop maker/finder/installer. I use a figure 8 knot since it's larger and creates a flat surface against the washer. It makes a little bit neater knot than a double overhand. http://www.animatedknots.com/fig8_/ "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  23. That's probably typical for more people to skip the B license. If you're jumping at your own DZ most of the time nobody cares and there are few restrictions released going to B. I finally got my C when I had to have it for Nationals. I was kind of peeved because I wanted to see how long I could jump with only an A license. 24. Yeah, seems like lesson #1 is to retrain for checking altimeter before even talking about a protrack or external/sensory cues. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  25. The day you showed up to cricket practice with your oar I'll bet you scared the shit out of everyone. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
