What the citizens were told was going to happen and what was going to happen would be two different things. The Japanese high command may have been nationalist fanatics but they weren't completely blind to reality. Oh yeah, entirely. Even what we know now is mostly fueled by propaganda. One issue is that the high command was also very split between factions. There were both fanatics and realists, some who had power, some who didn't. They at least thought they had a quantity of time to decide and act. I wonder if that was based upon the time it would take for the US to mount an invasion vs. the time it would take the Ruskies. Got a source on that to save me a lazy google search. All I've ever read is about how the nation was preparing to fight to the last man and the citizens were being told that they had to fight or else we'd slaughter and torture them (As they did against their foes). You should let people know that the behavior you don't like isn't acceptable. I think you'll find that people more often rise to the occasion. Also, if the regular jumpers and staff are not like that then they have your back let people know that this kind of stuff is going on with the visitors and you'll see them close ranks. In 1937 Japan initiated a total war in which they killed over 26 million civilians and 4 million soldiers. No action against Japan after that point short of war crimes requires an apology. I don't see the point of a state leader trip to Hiroshima for political purposes. It was no different than Tokyo, Desden, or any city in which there was an immense loss of life. However, the use of nuclear weapons in warfare is not something to sweep under the table because of the validity of their use in the past. Acknowledging that the loss of life was tragic does not mean that it was not justified and acknowledging it was justified does not mean it was not tragic. Can anyone who jumps at Spaceland confirm whether at any moment a drug fueled rape might go down? "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Yeah, no kidding, not to say that there isn't a threat but to be OK with hanging out with this crowd AT ALL. I just read his post and thought, "Fuckin' Huh?" "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Rape is still an illegal and reprehensible act. How is it that you can even think that someone making comments about your girlfriend would equate to someone intending on raping your girlfriend? I have to ask if you're serious? Do you really have this concern? "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

A 7-11 full of metrosexual homophobic Caucasian turtleneck-wearing ginger haired muslims cheered right after the first airplane hit the WTC. I saw it on an Internet cartoon so it must be true. Never Forget. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Brave New World - Women in underwear showing up on my work computer!

Yeah, I usually get those. It was just very strange that all I entered was a word related to a consumerist dystopia and all of a sudden...just like the gypsy woman said.... "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -
Brave New World - Women in underwear showing up on my work computer!

Thanks, was looking at that extension. I don't mind most ads, figured I could find a click-through for blocking specific ads. The irony of the whole thing is just too funny. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -
Just to cover some more bases since this is a good "choosing gear" thread. For leg straps you can get seatbelt covers to make them a bit more comfy. The more outrageous the better. Also, you'll want a rig with few snag hazards. Run a line across all parts to make sure nothing catches. Exposed pop tops are a bad choice unless you can cinch them down tight and pass the string test. For rig size, there's no reason not to go a little bigger on the reserve and main tray as long as the rig still fits. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Brave New World - Women in underwear showing up on my work computer!
DJL replied to DJL's topic in The Bonfire
I did a google search for Soma, the drug depicted in the novel Brave New World which is about a distopian future in which a common theme is consumerism. Now all of my sidebars are full of pictures of ads with naked women. How the fuck do I get rid of them? We do all of our seminars on my computer. Granted, I work for an electrical contractor so it's quite enjoyable to a room full of construction workers but...come on Chrome, let me block this shit! No, that's YOUR perfect Liberal and is about as common as a metrosexual homophobic Caucasian turtleneck-wearing ginger haired muslim. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

You're probably not too far away, but I still have family down there that I last visited about 10 years ago around the beginning of life for me - Blueridge along the Tocoaa. I liked the area - not much different than up here in northern Michigan with the national forest and the Ausable - abundant life, especially the outdoor life. The one thing that bugged me however was this unsettling eeriness about the place. I don't know how to explain it, but there was like a lurking evil everywhere. I know the area had a problem with wild pagans and witchcraft - weird shit, so maybe that had something to do with it? Not sure if you experienced anything like that down there. . .just wondering. I have some wild stories I'd like to talk to you about, but it's probably best done in private for now. One thing is for sure - it seems they're fighting an evil down there that I've never really experienced before. They say the devil went down to Georgia, and part of me thinks he never left. Last month my wife and I went to see a financial manager in our local bank. In the course of getting acquainted and sharing adventure stories, he related an incident in his past as a rock climber. He completed a climb and came upon a dog sacrifice and blood ritual. He did not say when that took place but judging his age I'd say it was many years ago. We live in Hiawassee about halfway between Blue Ridge and Toccoa. We have some problem with meth but have not heard talk about witchcraft or Satanism. I will do some investigation. I recently completed a report for my Sunday School class on the possible connection between the Cherokee and one of the lost tribes of Israel, Zebulon. The first outpouring of the Holy Spirit took place in Murphy, NC, just north of Blue Ridge, in 1896. That was ten years before the Azusa Street Revival in LA in 1906. Send me a PM when you get the time. You two are just fucking with everyone at this point. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
