  1. Well, I did few jumps at BD using a fine mash slider with the tailgate. Delays were 4-5 sec. Openings were OK but they seem a little slower especially during the last part of the inflaction, maybe too much reefing of the tail? I need to experiment more but so far I cannot see any cons. Heading wise I could not see any differences. By the way I am jumping an ACE 240 loaded .70 with a Per Pro. If you have experimented with this set up please post your feeback. Also, DON'T use the tailgate with large hole mash slider and don't lark-head the rubber band! Memento Audere Semper 903
  2. it also seems the wind will be coming from an evil direction making landings pretty much downwinders... Memento Audere Semper 903
  3. Don't quite agree. If it had gone right then others would have tried it. "Oh it's ok to use a loaded tri for BASE, after all it's a 7 cell and someone already successfully used it..." I think many of us, both in skydiviging and/r BASE, reach a point where safety is overlooked because things have gone well too many times. We see it everyday. We must keep reminding ourselves that what we do is dangerous and to take all the necessary precautions all the time not just the few jumps after somebody gets busted up or dies. 4. Ask Jason if he would let you take a Tri 135 with a sail slider off the bridge next Saturday... Memento Audere Semper 903
  5. What about rubber bands INSIDE the tail pocket? I've seen few of these. Any cons? Memento Audere Semper 903
  6. Sorry to hear about your accident. I just recovered from a pretty bad one myself. Hang on tight and work your ass off when all the casts come off. If you don't mind, what kind of canopy were you jumping and why do you think a 42" was not appropiate for a 2-3 sec? Memento Audere Semper 903
  7. It would be usefull to know the causes of the incidents. Prevetion is everything in this sport. The more we know the more we can prevent the less we die and get injured. Memento Audere Semper 903
  8. Nice post dude! I concur 100% What is going on man? Still jumping that S3 of yours? I see you and your lovely wife next time I fly down. Memento Audere Semper 903
  9. 105.21 Parachute operations over or into a congested area or an open-air assembly of persons. top (a) No person may conduct a parachute operation, and no pilot in command of an aircraft may allow a parachute operation to be conducted from that aircraft, over or into a congested area of a city, town, or settlement, or an open-air assembly of persons unless a certificate of authorization for that parachute operation has been issued under this section. However, a parachutist may drift over a congested area or an open-air assembly of persons with a fully deployed and properly functioning parachute if that parachutist is at a sufficient altitude to avoid creating a hazard to persons or property on the surface. (b) An application for a certificate of authorization issued under this section must— (1) Be made in the form and manner prescribed by the Administrator, and (2) Contain the information required in §105.15(a) of this part. 10. Rear risers + gusty winds + drag from WS = broken L2, L3 and right ankle. After that I pretty much said fuck rear risers! It's all good! Memento Audere Semper 903
  11. I jump a 105. Sweetest opening canopy ever with the greatest non-x-braced bottom end. It's so good, consistent, and on-heading it has become my WS only canopy. Don't do anyting with the nose. Quater the slider without covering the nose, don't roll the tail too much and you'll should be fine. No need to pycho with that beautiful S. African fabric. Memento Audere Semper 903
  12. ditto, granted that I've never been in the WT. I would like to go sometime to polish up my skills but as a beginner it might lead to a false sense of security. You got 20 jumps, FF like 200, and still no canopy skills. You see where I'm going... Memento Audere Semper 903
  13. you need to read Brian G.'s book. Memento Audere Semper 903
  14. PD slinks tend to stay in place more then Precision's ones that have the brass ring instead. Again what I do is to super tack the tags or rings to the risers. I just go in once, back and put a surgeon knot using super tack. It works like wonder. Memento Audere Semper 903
  15. I like to super tack the tabs to the risers on both main and reserve. Memento Audere Semper 903
  16. 20Lb almost equals 15 S'. Before downsizing I used to put few jumps with a 20Lb belt and it did feel the canopy being one size smaller. Memento Audere Semper 903
  17. Shroom here with a 38". It sticks out about 1 1/2". Memento Audere Semper 903
  18. Does this mean you use the tailgate on slider up too? If so do you include the C lines too or just the D? Thanks Memento Audere Semper 903
  19. Mirage vs Javelin = get a Wings Memento Audere Semper 903
  20. That's interesting. I guess I have to do some experimenting at bridge day... Memento Audere Semper 903
  21. I don't get it. With slider up the tail has already a reefing why in the hell you want to tape the lines or use a tailgate? CR advices against such a practice. More insights would be appreciated. Also if you use masking tape why don't you just go with the tailgate? Memento Audere Semper 903
  22. On low hor. stab. aircrafts the tail should be elevated by the application of the flaps. So if the plane was really straight and level is the pilot's error. Memento Audere Semper 903
  23. I hear ya bro. WS jumps suck . Try to take one off a 3000' cliff, you might change your mind Memento Audere Semper 903
  24. I jump an FX 111 loaded 1.55. Here are my comments: Openings: The worst ever. Twitchy as hell and you never know what you are going to get. It does open slowly but during the snivel it keeps going all over the place. It likes to hunt a lot. Harness inputs: Even with the brakes stowed I could not get it to steer. That could be due to the light wingloading (1.55). Rear Riser pressure: Light, predictable, fast turns. Toggle: Very short range, it dives like hell on toggle turns. Front risers: They are virtually useless. It was just like pulling down a piece of concrete. I could not get more than a 90 degree turn out of them! Landings: The best part of the experience. It planes out with little toggle inputs, nice swoops, and lots of flare even at the very end. Quite hard to bow-tie it. Packing: What's up with the fabric? I could not bag it right. Slippery as hell. Oh well, myt other canopy it's a Viper 105; I'm a spoiled with the nice south african stuff... Overall I hesitate putting this canopy in my container. Can't take those openings and the hard front riser pressure. 09/07/04 I just got my FX back from Precision. It was subjected to a x-mod: xaos 21 line set with non-cascaded HMA lines and the addition of the sabliribs and a different slider. Well I could not believe it was the same canopy! From probably the single worst canopy I've ever flown to one of the best! Incredible. The openings are just dandy. Snivels right on heading and no more hunt. Front riser pressure much, much lighter, more negative recovery, better flare, flatter glide, and the canopy seems faster too in straight flight I think that is due to the low drag of the "angel-hair" lines. Now I can make make it turn very easily with harness inputs and I'm even a bit lighter than when I was jumping it pre-mod. If you hate your FX like I did send it to Precision and have it mod. Some of the best bucks I've ever spent.
  25. I had the exact opposite problem. My EXT W8-1 came with the FF handle and it was a true bitch to tuck it in. The container was way too tight. I finally gave up and installed a monkey fist. Beside now my wings is my WS specific container and I use the S3 PC pouch instead of the BOC. I do believe the FF handle is very container specific. If it's too lose it comes out if it's too tight it's very difficult to tuck in. When it fits OK I think it's a wonderful system. Memento Audere Semper 903
