I don't think cutting away the arms is any faster than zipping when you get good at it. On the other hand I cut the leg away few times. In the winter and when I need extra protection on an already week ankle I wear heavy boots that make sliding the booties off a pain in the butt. So I just cut away. Memento Audere Semper 903

I really wanted to stay away from this post but... Guys let's not confuse real science supported with empirical data with urban myths and reader's digest articles. First, as in today there is no a single decent theory supported by empirical data about risky behavior. Second, there are a lot of jumpers who are not gamblers hence the risky behavior theory that likes to use gambling as a model does not apply. We for the most part try to leave very little to chance. A gambler leaves everything to chance. Third, there are many, many jumpers who are not addicted or have ever been to anything. Fourth, let us not confused clinical depression with the depression pharmaceutical industries are pushing to sell drugs. Heave you head of adult ADD? Do you really think it's a real mental disorder? Think twice. Who does not get bumped if you can't do what you like doing? This is not depression is a normal conditioned response. Now if it's a gorgeous day with 2mph winds, 80 degrees, and you don't want to get out of your bed to go skydiving and you are physically OK then there is something else going on. Getting mildly depressed because you are not able to do what you like is perfectly normal; no need to drop the pill. Fifth the neurotransmitter/MAO theory and risky behavior has no foundation whatsoever nor any empirical data. Sixth, I would love to know the reason why we love to skydive and BASE but I cannot find the common denominator and no, it's not just the high we get from them. I've met a lot of skydivers and BASE jumpers and it seems to me their personalities come in all sizes and shapes. Seven and final point, any behavior is a very complex phenomenon that can't be explained just by looking at one or few variables Memento Audere Semper 903

I've sewn a tailgate on the center upper trailing edge of the slider. When I pack slider up I trap the "normal" TG lines in the slider-TG. I've only tried out of planes. Maybe in a month or so I'll be able to take it close to terminal in Europe and see how it performs. I'll post some pics too shortly. Memento Audere Semper 903

I still not get an answer. A parachute to me is just what it is a damn canopy. A Raven III is an approved reserve. The question remains: My Perigee Pro is not approved but it's not a parachute it's a harness/container. So if I have my approved reserve inside, packed and sealed within 120 days AM I LEGIT? Memento Audere Semper 903

So here they are talking about an approved parachute. Nowhere is mentioned the harness. So in theory I can put a Raven III in my BASE rig and be legal to do aerobatics or be a PIC of a jump plane. Is this assumption correct? Thanks Memento Audere Semper 903

start jumping after back injury- advise?
nicknitro71 replied to lynxie's topic in Safety and Training
I might come too strong on this one but for obvious reasons. Be aware of MDs. The vast majority only want to make money off your injuries. Do your own research. Contact scientist in the field. It's your health not theirs. I broke (burst fracture) L2 and L3 on May 15 of this year. The moron wanted to do surgery: Drill and plate six vertebrea. I did not have any neurological deficits. I requested the fracture numbers and they were within the limits so I told the moron to stick the hardware up his ass. Unfortunately I could not do the same for my ankle because I was too drugged up so I signed the surgery form (stupid me). I even did not need the plate and the pin there! But hey he made 40 grand and bough a new wig. By the way the plate was put in wrog and last week I had taken it out by another guy by the way. The pin went too. I might sell the harware on e-bay now I wore a hard brace for 2 1/2 months. Then hit the swimming pool for a month. I started stretching and weight lifting by the third month. By the fourth I was skydiving and by the fifth BASE jumping. When the bones are healed work your ass off. As for PT I went once: there were not pushing me hard enough and it would have taken forever to regain strength and flexibility. Hey they need your money too so the longer the better. Good luck Memento Audere Semper 903 -
A buddy of mine rented a Vertex and a Flik for BD. The canopy had the multi. When I was packing it I noticed the rubber bands (black) inside the container. So I grabbed the manual and found out there were the stow for the multi. The first thing that came into my mind was WTF! IMO stowing a bridle is asking for a death sentance in the BASE enviroment. I told the guy that I was only going to pack it with the bridle free-stowed and I removed the bands just in case he got ideas. I don't like the multi: to me it maks absolute no sense. Was this a PC in tow with the container closed or the one with the container open and the bridle locked in the multi locking band? Memento Audere Semper 903

Well I hit the gym three times a week. Weight lifting and some cardio. I work the whole body at once. Now I try to work my shoulders a lot: military press, lateral and frontal rises, cross over cables...the problem is that when you fly a WS the muscles are contracted but they don't move hence anaerobic respiration takes over even more so than pushing iron. On top of that there is a lot of acid lactic produced. The thing about isometric exercises is that there are not good for building strength so I don't believe that mimicking and holding a flying position with weights helps but I do it anyway at the end of the session. When I tell non WS jumpers how physical the S3 is they don't buy it, oh well. I am still debating how many people should just stick with a GTI. Memento Audere Semper 903

From the V1 post: I don't agree. I work out regularly and the S3 is still tough on my shoulders. It's a isometric muscle contraction and builds up a lot of fatigue fast. I've learnt to deal with it but if I make a WS jump at the end of the day sometimes I have to pull much higher because I don't know if I'll have enough energy to deal with possible crap... You can always start flying dirty but then what's the point of flying an S3? As for the V1 we have to hear from Robi. Memento Audere Semper 903

My vertical descent prior to the incident was in the upper 50s so I was not at the best glide angle. I was flying kinda relaxed: legs straight as usual and my arms and shoulders were not a cupped as you want them to be for best glide. Usually I get in the mid-upper 40s when I try for distance. The thing is that in less then 1000' I went from the 50s to the 100s the drop was that dramatic and I could feel the accelleration. Again this is something I did not know it could occur. In the skydiving enviroment it's all good and fun too in a sick way but in BASE it could be fatal. Memento Audere Semper 903

Looking at the Neptune's data there is an increase in speed from 5400 to pull time. The speed went from the lower 50s to a bit over 100! I can think of two explanations: -The drastic change from strong tail wind to weak one stalled the wings without giving time to adjust. I was flying compensating for the big push and when gone the wing pitched up generating a stall although I did not feel it. -The change in wind speeds also could have be accompanied by a change in direction. The lowers were probably coming more crosswind and this let the right wing go up generating a stall but then again I did not feel being pushed to one side just a sudden drop. Memento Audere Semper 903
-
I was flying almost downwind not upwind. The uppers and ground were from the same direction. Memento Audere Semper 903

Yes I had my Neptune. Tonight I'm gonna download the data and see what's up. Memento Audere Semper 903

A funny thing happened to me yesterday. The uppers were cranking (30Knots) and about 5 Knots on the ground. I was flying my S3 and at 6K I started flying on a straight line towards the DZ. At 5 K I started wiggling all over the sky and dropped down with all my wings collapsed tumbling and rolling. At 3K I regained control got stable and pulled. It had never happened to me before. The zippers were fine and nothing was wrong with the suit. The WS jump prior to that one went flawless. Any ides? That would be a shitty deal in the BASE enviroment! Memento Audere Semper 903
