FAR's and wingsuit landing w/o a parachute?
nicknitro71 replied to linestretch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I went down at around 100mph when I used to race motorcyles. I got away with only few bruses. Yes I was very lucky. I slid for about 50 yards on asphalt and then hit the sand and start rolling like a burrito. By the way the FAR does not say anything about parachute deployment. The stunt at the WFFC, as wrong as it was, did not break any FAR rules. The passenger left the plane with an approved parachute. Memento Audere Semper 903 -
Ravens have two sets of crossports at the normal locations A-B B-C lines. Many CRW and BASE canopies also have C-D cross ports, i.e. triple set. I don't see any ill consequences by adding additional crossports on a canopy that will be used for BASE even thought not specifically designed for it. It might open harder if used in the skydiving enviroment but I think it's a legit mod for someone who does not want to invest in a BASE specific canopy. Don't get me wrong I would not used a Raven IV out of a 200' object (actually not even my Ace) but for 500+ stuff I don't see why not. Memento Audere Semper 903

Sure, get an Ace or BJ they are made by PD Memento Audere Semper 903

This is from John LeBlanc So the Dragon is not just a PD reserve with a different tag. I have put additional crossports on a Raven IV. Also I have seen Dragon with vents to address the slow infation problem. Look into that. Memento Audere Semper 903

I don't get it. 50m is about 150'. How can you make a 9 sec or even a 5 sec out of 150'? Am I reading this wrong? Memento Audere Semper 903

I am a rigger and own a Wings. The free bag is split to allow easier insertion of the canopy. There is no special tools or tecnique to pack a reserve into a Wings. I acually find it easier to pack it than a Javelin. No rigger should have a problem packing yours. Memento Audere Semper 903

The only problem I see is if the lines get cought in something. Take a look at this. It is basically the same set up but the longer loop is connected via a 2nd breakcord. Memento Audere Semper 903

OK guys take a look at this pic. Line 1 and 2 do not slide on anything and they are connected to the bridle extention via one breakcord loop; there is no pully action! Line 3 is there only if either 1 or 2 gets trapped some where so to avoid damage to the canopy or worse. If everything goes OK line 3 stays connected to the bridle and pulls 2 around and away from the attachment point after the cord has broken. I do not see how 160 LB are needed to break the cord. Two points like a normal hackey/monkey fist. Memento Audere Semper 903

I see your point. I'd rather use two pieces of breakcord at the bridle attachment point so it won't break first. Memento Audere Semper 903

Here is my very simple set up. Memento Audere Semper 903

You're right I should have been more specific Here is my "carry on" set up. Memento Audere Semper 903

This is an old thread but I would like to post a pic of my SL set up. Memento Audere Semper 903

Well after reading this I decided to get rid of my monkey fist handle on my WS PC although I have never had a problem with it. I installed one of those very light practice golf balls. The difference in weight is remarkable. Memento Audere Semper 903

Yes they can. The Ravens and Falcons for instance are approved parachutes with bridle attachment point. You can use them as main or reserve. Is this canopy of approved type? How many jumps on it? And guys please knock it off about the bias against "vintage" gear without knowing more about it. Old does not mean unsafe or not airworthy. Memento Audere Semper 903

Yes only one on a Pull Out System: it scared the living crap out of me and I have not made jump number 2 One day, maybe. The problem with the PUD beside the fact that it does not make any sense to me is that it's too damn easy to missroute the handle and have a impossible pull. I have witnesses few of this incident while I have never witnessed first hand a horseshoe or a PC in tow (just hesitation). Anyway I have jumped PUD and it worked for me. I would not buy one or use one for WS jumps but that's me. Hey spring loaded PCs work very well for students. Would I want one? JP uses one, he's a happy camper so it's all good. That's your opinion. In case of a horseshoe or a PC in tow I WILL cutway at the same time I pull the silver. Reason being there is a chance that the main deploys when the pressure of the reserve is released. I don't think that the benefits you are talking about overcome the defecits of the system. The Foretrex looks nice. I have a Rino 120, it's bigger. Memento Audere Semper 903

Klaus is da man! I think GPS data integration is a great idea. You'll be able to see your exact horizontal speed, distance, glide ratio and any variations. We will know for sure the true performance of each suit. Neat stuff indeed. Now all we need is a GPS as small as a Neptune! Memento Audere Semper 903

The Triathlon has a steeper glider. The Spectre and Omni acually have a pretty flat glide. I don't know about the Synergy. Or you can buy a Prodigy and have some fun with terminal openings Memento Audere Semper 903

Spring out I don't jump velcro closed rigs Tell us more Tom. It's a first for me! I forgot: pull out does not make any sense to me Memento Audere Semper 903
