Anyone else stayin' in on this lovely Sat. night?

Just got back from Houston so no real desire to do much right now other than camp out in the house and look at the mountains (even though I can't seem them in the dark). ------ Michael -
Off topic, but I believe Leadville is still a superfund cleanup site. Beautiful place don't get me wrong, but superfund cleanup site is keeping the real estate cheap there - this is due to a bankrupt mine there from years past. ------ Michael

How to tell when your project is getting to you...

My current project had a 1 year anniversary on Tuesday. Guess I can't complain too much. I'm still collecting a paycheck. ------ Michael -
Parachutes Still OK for U.S. Travel

Well, today is Thursday. I would like to report that I made it thru security with a water bottle in my hand and no one stopped to check my ticket or my ID. (#27 for no ID/Ticket check in 2006) I've purposely gotten in the habit of folding my ticket in half and sticking it in my passport on the photo end so the ID checker will have to purposely look for the ticket, the I put the passport and ticket in my back pocket once I'm beyond this point. The TSA screener did not say anything as I walked thru the metal detector with my bottle of water. I subsequently picked up breakfast and boarded the plane, handing the gate agent the ticket that was under a finger in my waterbottle hand. As we were nearing final when the FAs do their final pickup, I handed the FA my now empty waterbottle. He asked how I got it on the plane. I told him I carried it in one hand from my vehicle and no one stopped me. Is the TSA doing any better? Nope...it's still window dressing. ------ Michael -

Had to get mine renewed the end of last year as the country I was going to required an expire date of greater than one year. Felt naked heading to the airport without it. ------ Michael

It is better to have one than not. It's $xx plus $10 (or so) for passport photos. You probably won't need the passport since you're transitioning throug but not stopping in Japan. If you get a delay though in Japan, it will be better to have a passport then you can leave the secured area and get back in. edit: here is the fee structure. ------ Michael

So skip that and go across the street to the Mexican place. It's good. the steak place is gone so yes, go across the street or you're gonna go hungry. ------ Michael

hook knives are generally safer than some of the long precision screwdrivers I've inadvertently left in my bag. Besides, I don't think my hook knife (jack the ripper) could do much damage to anything besides the passenger manifest. The TSA is a joke. i get to go through security for the first time since the new rules are in play on wednesday. Going stir crazy. I've been home more than a week. ------ Michael -
lesson learned. Don't use the USPS to ship items of value, especially with insurance. FedEx and UPS will pay up a ton faster. Had to use it on both and generally had a check in a week on damaged items, 2 weeks on lost. ------ Michael

I'm on the road most of the time so I enjoy the quiet up here. not sure I'm gonna like being chased by soccer moms in mini vans on my motorcycle again. Might have to get a bigger vehicle and run them over so I can establish dominance. ------ Michael

3E is my seat. Sat there one day and someone had checked in before me and they moved me to 3B. He got pissed when I was in 'my' seat. The FA told him to calm down. That's normally where he sits. It's scary that I'm starting to see the same flight crews over and over. ------ Michael -
I call BS. I know where that is and there are no houses there Besides, that would make for a slippery commute on a quite a few winter days. Not to mention that road gets closed frequently during winter storms. Of course you probably meant figurative backyard...

I've flown Continental 7 times in my life, the most recent simply because I just wanted to get home due to a mechanical delay on my normal carrier. Flight #7 was the only flight that Continental didn't lose my bags. Why? because I had them with me. The other 6 bags (which were all lost on the outbound flight) I've never seen. ------ Michael
