privatizing education: argument regarding free education and return of educational investment on society. expanding healthcare: only takes away from most people in form of taxes. does not provide a direct return on society like free education does. gives 40 million of 300 million health care. about 13% more coverage, but at a risk of decreasing overall healthcare quality. apples and oranges in my opinion _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

The Economic Fallout Has Decimated the Black Middle Class
nanook replied to dreamdancer's topic in Speakers Corner
I think it would definitely drop dramatically, then it would level off for a while. Afterwards, I believe crime will shoot back up as some new fast-track to ghetto-richness scheme comes up. Also, maybe the poor areas will expand and have more blight with the cheaper and more plentiful drugs everywhere. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln -

Tell me the truth now. . . Does this friend really exist, or is this some sort of manifestation of yourself. there's a hell of a lot of internal (maybe unhealthy?) motivation to fix this guy. I am seeing a lot of similarities between your description of him and your response to replies on this post. never mind. Olympia nailed it _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Well, definitely not in a "ha ha, you screwed up" kind of way. But i'm pretty sure he doesn't lack the life experience anymore. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

NYC is a pretty huge area. He needs to get out of his usual bubble of acquaintances. Hooking him up with other people may not be what's best for him. He's out of his comfort zone, that's why. If you are going to help him, why not be a real service to him instead of putting him in uncomfortable situations. Instead of insulting him, try praising his interests. Make him comfortable with himself. Confidence is the winner, not tricks of the game. This doesn't help: Build him up. Don't make his interests and style inferior. Promote groups and organizations that have similar interests. Is he one of those larper types? push him to one of those SCA/renaissance groups. Lot of women there. Hell, buy him a tandem skydive. The important thing here; make him comfortable with being himself and not being ashamed of his interests. That will help him break out of his shell. It will be easier for him to find someone special. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Your friendship has been altered the moment you have fallen in love with her. I hate the be the bearer of things you may not want to hear, but her issues are way more problemsome and important than your simple loss of love. She's going to be a mom and she's gonna be married. Her emotions shes experiencing is more legitimate than yours. Professing your love to help yourself will not contribute to her future and is a very selfish and wrong. So. . .you have a choice here. You can rise above what is really a one-sided feeling and support her, or you can move on. Either way, It's way too late to profess your crush. The other guy was more important to her emotionally. He took her out, had a relationship, had sex, broke up and got back together with her, ect. ect. He put up the effort and he went forward with it. He deserves her more than you do. Whether she deserves him is an opinion best left up to her. You screwed the pooch, brother. Live with it and move on. You deserve this pain. I don't wish this on you, but you deserve it. A lot of us guys have fucked up like this. You are not alone. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Pretty horrible way to separate your jaw from your skull. "Curb Kiss" is what I usually hear it being called. the victim opens his mouth and places it around the edge of the street curb as if to bite it, and the guy kicks down on the back of his head. It breaks his teeth and done correctly, tears the muscles that hold the jawbone to the skull. It was demonstrated in the movie "American History X". _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I'm more of a long-term investor, but in Feb i saw opportunity with all the TARP talks, I bought heavily in the banking industry. Biggest gamble I have ever done and it has paid of by more than 100%. March was very uncomfortable month for me. Thank your WFC AXP GS. AIG and BAC were too iffy for me at the time _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Yes, that. When public loses interest in the flavor of the decade, people are less willing to fight for more money on the Hill or contribute more for research in that area. If you can't awe the public, the public will not pay. It's not the engineers that has problem with the ladies, it's the geeks in engineering that has problems. You don't need money at all to attract women. You need personality. The wanting of more finance and stability comes later in the relationship. But we aren't talking about relationships here, we are talking about dating. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I believe the peak was during the Apollo missions, and when the space program fell out of public awe, so did the allure of the Engineering community(but do you guys really want this area to be part of a fad?). But there is some areas many people don't look at when they think of Engineers. for instance, the Submarine community in the US Navy. All the officers are Nuclear powerplant graduates (except supply) and by design have some sort of engineering degree. The military is full of them. In the Navy, it is preferred. I don't believe, even generally, that engineers are inept socially. But the field does not punish this ineptness like other areas. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
