GM is Out of Bankruptcy, Will You Buy a GM Car Now?
nanook replied to Gawain's topic in Speakers Corner
You definitely like the risk more than I do. You can never tell exactly the date when the company will declare the stock junk and IPO new shares. My brokerage co's transactions move too slowly for me to comfortably trade in the Pinks. Oh, and ford. My last vehicle I bought in 2003, A brand new F150 King Ranch 4X4, hasn't been taken in for any failures yet. It's like I had bought a Civic. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln -
Another question I've never fully understood is--when does something officially become a "date"? If a man and a woman--both unattached, heterosexual, not related, and not in a work context--go out and have dinner together, is that automatically considered a "date"? Because there have been times when I've been in that situation where it has not really seemed like a date and other times when it definitely has the atmosphere of a date. It's a date only if you know that she knows the intention of the date. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Heart of Gold. . . Yup, just as I suspected. I played the song and my 19 month old daughter went afterburner to the computer. She likes that tone of music from that period. Got a little suspicious when that visa commercial used the moody blue's "tuesday afternoon" song. The police definitely deal with the same environment as joe/mary home owner. They are the ones who respond. And both military and police are home owners too. But I definitely not taking a lunchbox to the shipyards here. "combat tuna" is definitely not my idea for dinner-and-a-show theme. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

+1 I can definitely tell you that it is taught in the Navy that the "racking the shotgun" myth is pure Hollywood. I've been taught by retired Sheriff's Department, city police, and SWAT members (provided by the Navy Training) and they all say the same. From a personal experience, I can tell you that my screen door sounds exactly like a racking shotgun. Plus people "rack" differently. The slow types, you hear two distinctive "chink, chink" sound. Others you hear a quick "sshink" that sounds a lot different. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Do you belive in reparations for slavery?
nanook replied to warpedskydiver's topic in Speakers Corner
Nope. The slaves and the slave owners are all dead now. Who can you pay reparations to? They're dead. Who can you sue? It was legal then. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln -

It is true!! It prevents you from settling. -
Yes it is. Because it's rare, or non-existant, that terrorism can be a reason behind the protests. This is the DOD, not the police or the FBI. We have to protect our assets and be suspicious of any gatherings around our bases abroad or ships pierside in foreign countries. Protests are rarely dangerous even though there has been instances of staged protests to mask attacks, so therefore, they are "low-level". This our self-preservation concept, not a watchdog concept. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Nope. He did what many investors with half a brain did back at that month. I did a major "reorganization" in my portfolio around October. (thank you SPAWAR and your connectivity). _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Maybe you should chance on this person out in public and not let them know you've seen their ad. Strike up a conversation and see if anything clicks. Just because someone is looking for something similar does not mean you are going to be attracted to each other. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Kind of. that is the Condition. both condition and throttles have an effect on prop angle. To make the explaination simple as possible: The condition controls the RPM of the props. The rpm control is governed by the pitch of the props. for example: Flight high setting, the props are allowed to spin at "X" rpm. When power (throttle) is applied, the props pitch to prevent it from going faster. when power is backed off, the props flatten out to keep the rpms up. And of course, the more pitch the more bite and therefore more thrust with the advantage of keeping the rpm's. This is the simplest explaination I can think of. When you are on the ground, things are a bit different. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

In this video, it sounds more like 3000-4500 Rounds per minute. the Buzz-saw sounds very close to our CIWS when we do PAC fires. He represents America. He is a target. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I believe that T. S. Eliot is the only one that can get away with trying to sound like T. S. Eliot. Fear death by water _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I pay everything by credit card and have several cards with what most would consider very high limits. I never carry a balance and haven't paid interest in years. I prefer paying by credit card for the protection it offers with regard to fraud. And, I generally only have cards with some type of rebate or points associated with it, so why not charge absolutely everything I can to them? Actually, I put you in the "can legitimately support those charges" category. What I meant to say is: in this time, it's definitely not smart to live outside one's means. Also, there is a more easily defined line between responsible and irresponsible use today. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Is the street private property? If it is and it's owned by some HOA or something similar, the police may not have jurisdiction to write fines or enforce codes like an accident in a the parking lot. But then, they could have gotten in touch with the company. Maybe. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

and that right there is part of what got us into this mess. "look at me! I have lots of credit!" likely followed by the thought "if I pay the mortgage off a cash advance from card x, and pay the cash advance from card Y's transfer, I think I can make the benz payment." A very true statement. though, I think that now after the downturn, those that still whip out the cards are either exceedingly stupid or legitimately can support those charges. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

It's only a status symbol in the 'hood/barrio/trailor. Status symbols have always meant to show how much their expendable income can buy due to the fact that their assets give them enough return or credit. You can't flash more than $10,000, which is definitely a lot less than most "status symbol" credit limits or too small a difference between luxury autos and lower end models (as another example). Some credit cards/charge cards are still status symbols. In this economic downturn, it is probably a higher status since more people can't make the monthly payoffs to thier charge cards. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Was it American Express? they were the ones that created the concept, i believe. I think they still hold the same standards required to hold that card, whereas other companies give it out as a false status. There's the Centurian card as said, but the standards are stricter. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Well, this is kind of hard to pin a Ferrari on a Southern California jumper. One thing about this area: There is a hell of a lot of unpretentious rich folk here. Yes, there's alot of the showy types, but there are many more that don't like to make waves but may periodically indulge in their $200,000+ sports car they keep stashed away in thier compound. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
