I've only had to give it once over the years.....ok, well almost twice, but Shark was such a nice guy I couldn't. It doesn't happen that often, but when you have to, be professional and explain to them why you think it wouldn't be safe for them to continue jumping. One nice thing these days is some may be able to continue in the wind tunnel to correct any problems while in freefall, but the students that cannot get the canopy control are very rare. Be safe. Going low on formation - stay or track away?
bodypilot1 replied to fmmobley's topic in Relative Work
The simplest answer is.....dont go low. And at your level, dont get yourself in a skydive thats OVER YOUR HEAD. Keep a simple plan for the skydive and you shouldn't have any problem seeing all the other jumpers in your 2 WAY. There shouldn't be any reason to track off, instead just have them come down to you as you work on getting back up to them. -
I think it's a great exit, and since I do not jump with a reserve side in my program, it works for me. As Tim said, "The front floater (Reserve side instructor) has to lead the exit otherwise they become the cause of the student tumbling." In my many years of instructing I've found this to be true, but unfortunatly it mostly happened with the new AFFI's, and not the seasoned Instructors. But I have to say, after a few good stable exits this way, I always let the student have the opportunity to stand outside the plane and do a poised exit. Be safe. After I open I immediately do a controllability check with the main toggels, then hand them to the passenger. I then do a flare with the flaring toggles, release them, and then nicely explain to the student that they may feel their hips drop and inch or so, and that I am not letting them go, but just getting us ready to practice getting our legs up for landing. I release the laterals while the students have the toggles in their hands, as this makes them feel more secure for some reason. I then repick up the flaring toggles and hold them while the student flys the canopy with my instruction, and let the steering lines run through my fingers loosly and assist in turns should they need any help. I then tell them to let go of the toggles at the crosswind leg and flare myself, always. I think picking up the flaring toggles at a low altitude will set you up for the exact situation you discibed, as well as cause you to take your focus off of the other canopies in the air at such a critical altitude of your landing. Unconscious skydiver in freefall?
bodypilot1 replied to HydroGuy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Deploy them as soon as you are able. I probably go for the reserve instead of the main, as most skydivers mains are high performance these days. An unconscious skydivers body goes limp and may get very hard to control if you delay. But this is just my opinion.... Be safe. Ed www.WestCoastWingsuits.com www.PrecisionSkydiving.com -

AFF level1 lost jumpmaster, uncontrollable spin
bodypilot1 replied to peterjames's topic in Safety and Training
Got it, thanks. -
Glen Again you choose only to read what you wish to hear...... Try reading the entire "off topic" part of the threat and why I posted that comment and also what else I wrote. I've flown both suits, they are both AWESOME suits, but there is no "hard data" making the "performance" show that one is better then the other, and my opinion of both suits is mine and I will keep them to myself. Many suits are made for different body sizes, which produces more wing area, and if the person is light enough and knows how to fly it correctly, they can cover alota ground or remain floaty. It all about weight, material and glide angles. Put your "shit stirring stick" away..... Be safe! Ed www.WestCoastWingsuits.com www.PrecisionSkydiving.com
