Well, I'm going to have the hemovac and tubing pulled out at 1pm today.I've heard this is a very painful procedure so I'm nervous.Even my doctor said to take 2 pain pills before the appointment. after that I'll probably have the rest of the staples out in a few weeks.I'll find out more after today's appointment. I have a VCH and both nipples pierced.Surprisingly the VCH was less painful than the nipples were and it healed faster. I had to take everything out for surgery the other day and let me tell ya,they close up quick if you dont keep jewelry in them.I had a tough time getting them back in after 4 days sans jewelry. Feel free to PM if you have any questions on these specific piercings. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."

Yes, it was done laparoscopically with only 4 small incisions. Not counting the 7 times the had to start an new IV b/c my veins werent cooperating.I feel like a pin cushion and have the bruises to prove it. For now I'm sticking to light sandwiches, toast, lowfat soups, broths and jello since I know I can adjust to these well.As time goes by I'll add more varirty and see what my stomach can handle as well as my throat from bring intubated..its sore like a mofo. Well, I went in to see the surgeon on Tuesday and I was in so much pain and so dehydrated that he had me admitted immediately to the hospital and scheduled the surgery for the next day,Wed,so that I'd have time to hydrate and get some antibiotics going b/c I had a fever going in. Well, the surgery went well except it took 4 hours instead 2 b/c the gall bladder was really distended and was full of a sludge that they considered infection. So we're still waiting on the results from that lab. But all in all it was ok.The anesthesia wasnt bad and b/c I was nervous they gave me an extra cocktail of sedatives to help out. The kept me overnight for pain management and observation. It was really painful but the nursing staff were great and my hubby didnt leave my side. I was discharged this morning and have orders to keep moving a good bit to reduce complications with blood clots. My throag is sore from the intubation, but other than that, its all muscle pain thats to be expected from major surgery.I have a hemovac hooked in just to make sure theres not more infection. It should be coming out Monday. So theres my update.

Ok,my surgery is in less that 8hours.I've already packed an overnight bag just in case they keep me for observation/pain management.I'm already cranky b/c I've had to fast since midnight last night and until after the surgery. So now I just have to sit here and wait....and wait....and wait.ack! Patience is a virtue that I've never had.I cant stand watching the clock,it just makes me more nervous.God I just want it to be over with already!! Somebody tell a joke or something before I go nuts! Ok, I went to the ER.I was there for 7hours for monitoring and pain management and then they sent me home with a RX for Torodol and an all clear liquid diet. As long as I dont run a fever again and stay relatively inactive(bed rest) then I'll be ready for surgery tomorrow as scheduled. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."

Thank you Jaye, for being so concerned and supportive. You're so kind. I have an old bottle of Hydrocodone and one of Tramadol that I used to take for a knee injury.I took some before I went to bed and slept ok.I dont currently have a fever but I'm still cramping up on my right side a little.I think I can last until Tues,BUT if I get any worse I will not hesitate in going to the ER even if I would have to call my hubby out of work to get me there. He and his supervisor knows it too. My hubby has already cleared it with his supervisor to be off from Tues to Sun to help take care of me.After a week I should be ok on my own right? The surgery, like I said is Tuesday at 5pm,which sucks b/c that means I have to fast from midnight tomorrow until the surgery. The fun part is going to be taking out all my piercings lol. Well, luckily I just so happen to have an RX for Valium 5mg.I'm going to call that doctor and see if I can take it PRN for this specific situation. As of right now its being used to help my Bipolar Disorder symptoms, but I'm sure he'll let me alter my medication regime for this specific RX and for this situation. All my doctors rock! I'm hurting like hell right now and running a low grade fever. If it gets any worse I'm going to have my mom take me to the ER,not that they can do much except say "yep its your gallbladder go have your surgery". I cant help it but I'm really getting anxious.I feel like such a wuss. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."

As I've mentioned here I've been having medical problems concerning my gall bladder.Well Monday I went to the doctor and Tues I had an ultrasound which showed several gallstones and what the tech called"shadow stones" plus alot of sluge.yuck! So after speaking with my PCP he wants to fast track my surgery b/c hes worried about the possibility of infection and gangrene(sp?) So I'm scheduled for surgery this Tuesday the 26th at 5pm.They said it should be a relatively easy procedure since I'm young and in good health and can probably have this done on an outpatient basis. Needless to say I'm nervous.I've never had surgery before or even been under anesthetic before. In fact I've never been admitted to a hospital before.I know its probably not as bad as I'm thinking it is but I'm very anxious. So,please wish me good luck or any well wishes you may have. Its greatly appreciated. Thanks "...just an earthbound misfit, I."

Heh heh heh! I just bought my 10yr old nephew a box of "Bertie Botts every flavor beans" so you have to be carefule of ALOT of different flavors, like grass, vomit, dirt, sardines, etc. There are some regular ones in there but thats not the fun part.I cant wait til my brother-in-law goes and grabs a handful thinking they're reg. jelly beans. I also bought him some Harry Potter gummi slugs, which is based on one of the movies where Ron's wand backfires and he pukes slugs. My nephew is having a great time terrorizing his 3 sisters with them. I love being an aunt! "...just an earthbound misfit, I."

It seems different for everyone. Some can go eat McDonalds every day and some have to be picky and eat healthy .The fat content is what causes the gallbladder to release bile,so no fat no bile...but thats if I were keeping it which Im apparently not going to do.I'm not sure of the diet issues after surgery.I'm sure some of the med people can shed more light on the subject.

Well, I made it to my doc appointment yesterday. He agreed that it was my gallbladder and scheduled me for a ultrasound. I went to that apt at 9am and very cranky b/c it was a fasting procedure...Nothing to eat/drink after midnight. Well while the radiology tech was doing her thing with the ultrasound she said my gallbladder is very distended and she showed my the cluster of gallstones and sludge.ick! So my doctor thinks my gallbladder and I should part ways and have the thing removed. He also gave me an RX for Bentyl, which I know know much about except he said it was a mild muscle relaxer. So Id appreciate any of the medical people here if they could give me info on this drug.(and no,the pharmacy didnt give me cany info about the drug they just said to take as RXed. Thanks for everyone's support thus far.

Ok So I've already put my vote in for a Boston Terrier or a Boxer.I dont have pics of the boxer but I found a picture of my Boston,Daisy,on Xmas Eve 04 which was the day I got to bring her home from the breeder. She was six weeks old in this pic. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."

Thanks I really appreciate it.I'm not near as jittery now that I've read so many personal stories and advice,(but its still gonna suck LOL). I'm wondering something though. Is severe acid reflux a gallbladder symptom? b/c for the last week I've been woken up out of a sound sleep with terrible reflux.I mean I literally have stomach fluid in my mouth and throat. After a few Prilosec I get get some sleep. So I was just curious.... or it could just be that I have reflux and gall bladder probs. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."

I honestly dont think that this is a theory that its my gallbladder. Like I said earlier I spoke extensively with my mom,who is an RN and has been a nurse for almost 30yrs.Shes worked OB-labor and delivery,ER,Med/Surgery,Home Health,Hospice etc etc etc.Plus she had her gallbladder removed (after all the same symptoms as mine).I trust her judgement. Plus I went onto wedmd.com and did a symptom scanner and it too listed this a probably gallbladder. I'm not trying to attack you on this honestly, I'm just saying I've got a good bit of evidence that points in this direction.

Thank you skymama! she has removed the offending party from the thread. Now, can we keep the advice coming please? Its really helping me out alot.
-
thank you! thats ecaxtly the kind of info I was looking for.I'll try anything if it means not needing surgery.

Thanks kb, I appreciate the help.So much for no personal attacks on here....I guess some people are ignorant and dont know the forum rules which include PAs. I fully plan to go to my appointment on Monday but if it gets worse between now and then I'm not "ignorant", I WILL go to the ER.enough said. I was simply looking for other research or procedures that might avoid a surgery and have received some good feedback to alay my hospital fears. Thanks everyone...er,almost everyone. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."

Yeah, my mom had hers removed laproscopically(sp?) too.But I'm afraid my insurance wont allow that for me b/c they consider certain laproscopic surgeries to be "cosmetic".I hope they dont think that in this case. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."

So I've been having severe pain across my right side just below the ribcage and a dull aching lower back that grows into sharp pains up into my shoulder blades.I cant sleep b/c no matter what position I lay on my right side kills me.Plus every time I eat anything grease or eat a big meal I get VERY nauseaus. That being said, I told my mom about it b/c shes an RN and knows these things,b/c she used to work in Med/Surg at a hospital and shes especially knowlegdeable about the gall bladder b/c she and my sister had theirs removed years ago. So heres the deal, I dont want to go to the doctor b/c I'm afraid he'll tell me I need surgery to remove it.I dont want surgery b/c 1 I've never spent a day in the hospital in my life and dont like them,2 I've never been under any type of anesthetic and it sounds scary to me 3 we really dont have the $ to pay for a major surgery right now and 4 they botched my sister's gall bladder surgery and she had bile leaking into her stomach cavity for over a week causing her to be toxic but the doctor said it was psychosomatic. What do I do? has anyone else had gall bladder probs and not had to have surgery?Any medical tyes out there?Id really appreciate some feedback on this. yes I KNOW I should go to the doctor and Ive actually broken down and made an appointment for next Monday so please dont rant about it.
