  1. Yup, I considered the Commander.I'm looking for a dark finish not stainless.Plus after 1991 when Colt started making all the internal parts out of teflon and aluminium instead of steel I kinda got away from their products.Just a personal prefrence.
  2. Yeah, even though the PO is my first choice I'm leaning towards the Springfield. That way I'll still be getting a good gun but the $ I save with the Springfield I can use for any smithwork...and new sights would be first on the list.
  3. Thanks for the input.I'll check out the V-10.I've already narrowed my list down from about 20 to 3, the Para Ord. LTC,the Springfield GI.45 Champion and the High Standard Crusader Combat. I'm still open to suggestions though. I wont be needing a holster. My dad's friend is a saddle maker and he makes custom fit leather holsters for me that are damn good.
  4. Well, my hands arent super small, but they're small enough.I'm not sure if its the size of my hands thats the problem or if its how I'm gripping the gun or what. But Kimbers just feel weird in my hands. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."
  5. Yeah, I'm not too impressed with AO right now.But I'm really liking what I'm seeing from Para Ord. and Springfield. I havent checked out all the manufacturers yet.I've only look at Springfield,AO,PO,S&W,Colt,CZ, and Rock River Arms thus far.I still need to check out H&K,Sig,Tarus, Ruger, etc. But, so far I've got things down to 2 different models. One is the ParaOrdinance LTC .45ACP.It holds 7+1 weighs 35oz (empty) and has a 4.25" barrel w/3dot sights.MSRP: $919.00 The other is the Springfield GI .45 Champion 1911A1 .45ACP. It holds 7+1,weighs 37oz. (empty) and has a 4"barrel with military sights.MSRP:$559.00 These are my top 2 choices right now,but I'm still open minded and still looking. As for getting a .40...no thanks.I've already had a Springfield XD .40 and I didnt care for it.The XD .45GAP is much better.Besides, I just really like and am comfy with the .45ACP caliber.I'm not sure if its b/c my hands are small that guns like Glock and Kimber dont fit my hand or if its just the way I hold a weapon comfortably that makes it difficult. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."
  6. Thanks for the input.I'm actually looking at the Springfield GI .45 "Champion" model with a 4"barrel.Its a hair smaller than the full sized 1911s but its not so small that its going to kill my wrist with recoil from the smaller barrel either. I looked at Auto Ord. but they seem to only make the full size 5" barrel 1911s and thats not what I'm looking for.I already have one. Para Ord. has several good choices too.I like the Para Ord. LTC .45ACP w/a 4.25" barrel. I really dont want a Glock.I've tried a few and they just didnt fit my hand well.I liked the Springfield XD better. But I'm not looking for either one right now.I'm in the market for a concealable 1911. Thanks again!
  7. As I've said, I'm not a big Kimber fan.I havent found a Kimber that will fit my small hands and although they may be a great weapon I think they're too proud of their prices. There are plenty of other good companies that make products just as good for a more reasonable price. Just IMHO.
  8. Ok, so I have my TX CHL and I'm looking for a good carry weapon.I've been carrying a Norinco 1911A1 .45ACP and I would like to stick with something similar.I really love the 1911A1 and would like to keep my choices limited to that frame model (cant go wrong with a frame thats lasted almost 100 yrs right?) I'm also looking to keep the caliber a .45ACP.Also, I'm looking for something a little more compact that the standard 5" barrel.Basically I'm just looking for a new 1911 that is better suited for concealed carry. I dont like the way Kimber fits my hand (or my wallet) So I dont want a Kimber.I've looked at Para Ordinance,Auto Ordinance and Springfield thus far. Before anyone starts a flame on the use of a 1911 for a CCW, please know that I also have a Springfield XD .45GAP as a backup.Plus, I'm just really familiar with and comfortable with my 1911 and so thats what I trust myself with most. Any suggestions would be appreciated.Where to look? where to buy? What to look for? I know I kinda put a tight search criteria up but any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  9. I had to reinstall everything and couldnt remember all of my old screen names and passwords. So I got all new ones.Thats why I have to do it like this...I can't access my old accounts. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."
  10. PM Nightingale.I know shes been to Ireland and had some great tips for other travelers. FYI: I'm SOOOO jealous of you right now.I'd kill to go to Ireland! "...just an earthbound misfit, I."
  11. Its not as big a deal as some people make it out to be. My hubby and I decided we didnt want kids due to some genetic health problems that run in the family and so he got a Vasectomy in January. After he goes in for his 3month check up and tests come up clean(no sperm) then I can stop taking my birth control. But there is a possibility that a man can be fertile up to 6 months after surgery,so be sure to get the green light from the doctor that youre clean. Its was a very easy procedure that he did on an outpatient basis. He required 48-72hrs of bedrest and taking it easy for the first week..no straining or heavy lifting. He had some mild discomfort but nothing that couldnt be taken care of with advil or asprin. So my $.02 on Pros and Cons are simple: Pros: 1.dont have to worry about condoms 2. a woman doesnt have to put more chemicals into her body (the pill/the shot/patch etc) 3.no pregnancy scares 4. very easy operation with minimum recovery 5. you can resume your sexual activities as soon as you feel ready to do so,although you will still have to use alternative contraception (the pill, condoms etc) until you get your tests back clean. 6.most insurance covers this procedure Cons: 1.slight disconfort at the incision area 2.the doc might tell you to put ice on it so that might be a bit discomforting 3.you have to pack your pants with tons of gauze which is awkward but for your own good as it keeps everything in place for minimal discomfort (some docs require the use of a jock strap for this purpose too. 4.its not a 'quick fix' to the problem. You still have to wait several months before you're shooting blanks and that all depends on how much you ejaculate after the surgery to get all the built-up sperm outta there. So the more the merrier. 5.if you decided later down the road to reverse it,that procedure is a bit more involved and alot of insurance doesnt cover a reversal. If you have any questions or comments feel free to PM me or my hubby:loco.cerveza I'll direct him to this thread to get him to put in his $.02 too. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."
  12. Ok, so my comp died and we had to completely wipe the HD and I lost everything including all my messenger services.I reinstalled MSN, GoogleTalk, AIM and Yahoo but I've forgotten everyone's ID and emails who were on my old list. So, if any of you were on my list or would like to be,PM me and I'll give you my info. or you can give me yours and I'll add ya. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."
  13. great line! I like this one too. Perry:This isn't good cop, bad cop. This is fag and New Yorker. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."
  14. Yeah...me.I injured myself shortly after AFF and the doctors said to hang it up.Now my hubby has done his first tandem and is all fired up wanting to do AFF and keep jumping. He keeps talking about getting me back in the sport but I know I'm done. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."
  15. hehehe! told ya! Heck,my hubby works in a prison filled with sexual predators and he said "damn I wish she were on our payroll". "...just an earthbound misfit, I."
  16. You really want guys to cross their legs and cringe...have them watch the movie Hard Candy. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."
  17. I've been there too.Shortly after I got married my mom called and told me my grandmother had lung cancer. Then for a year we watched her fight and take treatment after treatment. She just kept going down hill and it spread to her brain so she finally went on home health hospice. We all sat for a year waiting for that phone call. It came shortly after my first wedding anniversary. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."
  18. LOL! Well any time you have need of a useless factoid or such let me know. And any time I dont want to think about ANYTHING for a bit, I'll let you know and see if you can help me out there. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."
  19. Well, I know from experience that lighter fluid will take permanent marker off of glass, china, porcelain and other fragile surfaces with damage to the object in question.*shrug* "...just an earthbound misfit, I."
  20. No problem. Its good to have useless facts just hanging around in my head not doing anything except taking up space that could be used for something important. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."
  21. From my own experience w/leather desk chairs and an entire living room set in black leather mixed with 5 cats and a dog who like the sharpen their claws on all of it... There are liquid leather repair kits out there. Some of them you just paint over the tear and let it dry and others comes with peices of leather than you patch over the tear and then seal /glue it down with the liquid leather.Ofcourse theres always the cheap way out..use liquid latex and paint over the tear with that and see how it holds. You might try a craft store like Hobby Lobby.I know they carry demin repair kits and they probably carry leather repair kits too.Or even try local stores like Wal-Mart,(the local stores like Wal-Mart might have them in a crafts department or automotive area.)Then theres the automotive stores like AutoZone that carry similar stuff for tears in leather car interriors. If all else fails, call a furniture store and see if they have anything similar that they sell (just dont let them talk you into a new one lol).Another choice is flipping through the yellow pages and find a place that reupolsters furniture and call them for advice. Ofcourse some of these kits can be very expensive, especially at a speciality store like a furniture store or reupolster shop, but the ones at craft stores and Wal-Mart are pretty inexpensive. The Auto stores will probably run midrange between the furniture places and Wal-Mart prices since it is a speciality shop. Good luck and I hope you find something that helps.

  23. After 2 reschedules due to weather holds we finally got my hubby in the air for his first tandem on Friday. The staff was excellent and very friendly, which made everything run smoothe. He enjoyed himself immensely and cant wait to go up again. He wishes to say he is sorry that he didnt interact with the cameraman,Justin, more for the video (hes not a big fan of being on video). But that we're both thrilled with the way the video came out.It was very beautifully done artistically and professionally. Thanks for giving us those memories. Also, we'd both like to thank Mark Futch, his TI,for such a relaxed, professional, and enjoyable demeanor. As well as his ability to instruct and inform students throughly without overwhelming them and keeping them calm. Lastly, we'd like to think Todd Spillers,AggieDave,Monica from manifest, the pilot and and everyone else who welcomed us with open arms and encouragement. You have all truely made my husband's experience memorable.
