  1. are the lowest in 20 years! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8153392.stm Interesting that crime is DOWN in a recession, to be honest I would expect it to rise during times of economic turmoil. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  2. I think it is time we started betting on whether Jo will ever stump up On seconds thoughts the odd's are probably to high I put it at the chance of her providing "proof" that is not based in some tenuous link at about 0. Perhaps if we all bet a dollar this bank will provide the winnings http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8152278.stm after all $23 quadrillion should just about cover it Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  3. thanks - I just assummed that fantasticable in the comments was mangled english for fantastic. I definately think that it will be worth a trip to France in the summer holidays to give it a try - the closest I will ever get to wingsuit base Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  4. I stumbled across this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Nx-U5erY80&feature=related and would like to find out where it is. It is obviously a large scale zip wire and looks like alot of fun. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  5. you could always become friends with Shah - I don't think he's got that problem Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  6. I haven't been to any dz's in the last few years but I can understand that in general they are not family friendly. I will never forget my stuck up highly religious parents coming to my DZ to watch my sister do a tandem and our resident nympho was on a sun-lounger reading penthouse or playboy. To be honest as a parent I took our kids to a DZ and they got to see someone kill themselves with a hook-turn about 50 foot away - for that reason alone I don't think that DZ's will ever be truly family friendly (i'd rather my kids saw tits than death up close and personal). 7. yes guilty - but my type of "waves" go from ~100Mhz to 20GHz. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  8. Ok to throw some questions into the pot for discussion. If a 727 is travelling at 180MPH (from memory the cooper exit speed) with the air-stairs open there will be a pressure differential between the interior and exterior of the plane. However behind the aircraft there will be a defined zone of "dead air" before the wake is noticeable. From personal experience exiting a CASA 212 at a reasonable speed - there was a definite "zone" external to the aircraft (admittedly less than 6 foot) where there was no noticeable slipstream. Therefore what is the likely induced pressure differential within the plane with airstairs open/closed? However when a "disturbance" is introduced to a moving flow (air stream in our case) a shock wave is produced - exactly the same as ripples in a stream. As discussed earlier people can count jumpers exiting simply by the "feel". I believe that there is a good chance that these pressure waves COULD register on instruments - but I am sceptical that the effect would propagate all the way to the cockpit. Granted back then cockpits were not behind lock and key but we are told that the curtains at least were closed and the pressure wave will dissipate along the length of a rather large plane. 9. The obvious answer is a Nicole Sheridan movie. Just tell her it's a video of a hot chick at your DZ that you jump with Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  10. If the question was aimed at me - then well it is a pretty easy differentiator with medicine compared to smoke/prayer breaks. I wouldn't have a problem with it but if it was 10-20 minutes every 2 hours, I would expect some "give" from an employee where I would not be happy with them taking full length tea-breaks and lunch-breaks in addition to their medicine time-out, and them "clock-watching" from 9 to 5. As a side-note we have a very strong relationship with our staff and I have had staff offer to come in at 2am on a Saturday night to help meet a deadline for Monday am, and likewise staff have worked shorter hours/days off when times have been quiet. 11. Do co-workers fill in for smoking breaks for some? How often does the "prayer break interrupting the assembly line" actually happen? Wendy P. Earlier this week I was phoned by another small business man wanting a reference for an ex-employee who is a Muslim. The guy asking for the reference was genuinely and extremely worried that the potential employee would want to pray 5 times a day and the disruption this would cause. While completely non-pc I can understand where he was coming from and as this youngster used to disappear off site for 2 or 3 hours on a Friday un-announced something I can sympathise with. Lastly I don't see any difference between smoke breaks and prayer breaks and neither are acceptable IF you don't carry your weight. While all generalisations are dangerous and unfair to some personal experience of smoke breakers have been people quite happy to sit and chat outside for 20-30 minutes, while arriving at 9am and leaving at 5 on the dot. (Same goes for web-surfers who have to switch screen every time you walk into the office). Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  12. In general the cops use Pan Europeans but there are a few ZX-10R and at least 1 Hayabusa that the police use for "special" purposes. The general trend appears to be that the police use these bikes to gather video evidence of bikers behaving badly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRW-0W3PpSE Lastly in answer to someone elses post - it is illegal to impersonate a police vehicle in the UK so it is definately not privately owned. 14. I have stocked up on popcorn and beer and am simply here for the Jerry Springer activity Useless piece of trivia a few months ago watching Moonlighting ( a corny old Private Investigator TV series with Bruce Willis) someone calls in randomly asking him to find DB Cooper - it is a random call mean't to make up background chatter in a scene. 15. Does anyone know how Facebook generates suggestions? It is just that I do NOT mix work associates and family/friends and yet just logged into facebook to find a "suggestion" of a client of mine. We have no personal interests in common that I know of, the only potential link(s) that I know of are skype and company email. It is not that he has requested to be a friend or that it was an emailed suggestion but the automated "people you may know" type. Obviously I will be pretty upset if facebook are accessing either for suggestions. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  16. people need to lighten up here. Seriously internet forums tend to have a "tone" and in general the moderators (Quade) have been extremely generous in allowing this particular thread to stay alive with the general tone that it contains. If anyone cares to go and browse the bonfire/speakers corner and see that threads are locked/recycled for alot less than what goes on here. While this thread is focused on Cooper it makes an entertaining read and I will be the first to admit that I don't give a damn who Cooper was, and therefore I have no "vested" interest in seeing this thread live on. But some people do take a serious interest in who Cooper was and I think the fact that the thread is in history and trivia means that a certain level of focus in in order. 17. http://pure-essence.net/stuff/fun/winrg.swf Just found this it is "really good" as it says on the tin. and worth playing with all the features including the version of word Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  18. funny coincidence about the other thread and yes it was. Our plane was an italian build and took forever to reach altitude. The 'Mocchi at United? At least there was some room to get comfortable, unlike Lakewood's older 182 . No it was Mashonaland Skydiving and the first "trog" as it was known crashed on take-off with no serious injuries. One of the jumpers was thrown clear and claimed the record for the lowest exit/skydive in the club at aproximately 6 foot altitude. Even the 2nd plane seemed to need repairs more often than it flew. But yes it was very roomy and allowed people to spread out. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

  20. This might be very easy I don't know - but it is this is the jump-ship is what I did most of jumps from? Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  21. thanks for the various replies and thoughts. I certainly agree that an AAD is not a substitute for your own responsibility. While I certainly agree 100% that the company will design for the most appropriate solution across the bulk of their user base - I did notice that they offer customised versions - which I assumed to mean an opportunity to "tweak" the parameters. I would imagine that if a person is significantly away from the "norm" then a tweak could make the device potentially better matched to THEM (not as a product in general). By the way I do understand that as in my original remark about going low - a cypress may well have complicated things as if it had existed back then I COULD have had 2 out (although the thought of a cypres fitted to a bellymount reserve and T-10 rig brings a smile to my face Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  22. I have a question regarding Cypres firing altitude and wanted to get a general opinion view. For a long time I have been wanting to get back into skydiving as it has never really left my blood. I occassionally play in the tunnel but it is not the same. I always was a conservative jumper (I have ~120 jumps). As I see it the careful selection of equipment by choosing to stay with large canopies, and not taking up any of the higher risk disciplines, will help to reduce the risk (I know that you can do everything 100% right and still die - so this is not an attempt to achieve 0 risk, if I wanted that I would stay in the tunnel). So I was wondering if there is any "merit" in a non-standard Cypres that is configured for a 1200ft trigger? To put this in perspective, I know that a higher altitude increases the chance of a 2 out - but hopefully not significantly - I have opened at about 1000 foot on a T10 by loosing altitude awareness on a 10 second delay from 5000 foot and doing 22 seconds according to my jump master - and it is not an altitude I want to see in free-fall ever again. It appears that most jumpers open at ~4k which is alot higher than I am used to from 10 years ago, and so it would seem reasonable to shift all the margins upwards. I have never jumped with an AAD so I was not worried about being dependant. I would appreciate peoples perspectives on this. 24. Firstly I don't support the BNP, or labour & I don't read the daily mail. I do not see why a legal political party is so badly treated. In all honesty I perceive that Sinn Fein didn't get that level of hostility (on mainland UK) when they were supporting a terrorist organisation. I have heard alot of 3rd party statements about the BNP policies but not alot from the horses mouth. As a migrant to the UK I find it perfectly acceptable to "fit in" with the culture and society - granted I come from a British colony so there isn't alot of difference. I do find it offensive when a migrant comes into a country, refuses to learn the local language and expects local laws to be changed to mirror their culture and background with no attempt to integrate themselves. Ironically I perceive/notice that the Scotts and Welshmen that I know are fiercely nationalist and yet the English appear terrified of any differentiation - I can see that being a breeding ground for frustration and racial crimes. I think that the mainstream parties should be more "patriotic" and less afraid of being "british" and this would remove most of the momentum behind what is largely a single issue party.
