  1. check out this thread for a good explanation on collapsible PCs.
  2. Hey, I've got one: Go to Iran or some other extreme-islam-country, and get caught stealing something. That should slow you down. If you want to stop completely, get caught again.
  3. If you do take the 'boobie attachment'-option, be sure to specify you don't want the 'extra plumbing'-option that comes with all models as default. I've heard the two are widely considered to be not compatible.
  4. Here's an idea. Move to Finland. Guaranteed to keep you on the ground for a few months a year. I guess Canada or Alaska would work too, and they're a bit closer to you.
  5. That was absolutely brilliant! You know what the best part is? If he doesn't jump, everytime he does the same speech, he's going to have this small nagging voice in his head reminding him of something he said he'd do...
  6. About 600 jumpers with a C or D-licence is the last figure I've heard... Year 2002 stats in Finland: 54605 jumps total 1 fatal incident(main/reserve entanglement) 22 reported landing related accidents happened to licensed (C/D) jumpers. Accidents are reported if the jumper requires medical attention, or if it's otherwise considered appropriate: hook turn 5 bad landing technique 10 low turn 1 no flare/flare late 6
  7. The differences in downsizing-cultures of different countries(and on different DZs) vary a lot. The way people downsize here in Finland would be considered reckless on most DZs in the States(not that I've ever been there, based just on what I've read here on DZcom). My post was directed to Ron actually, who asked "why downsize quickly". My point is that people here don't think they're downsizing quickly. They think american jumpers downsize slowly. Yet I don't think we have significantly more landing accidents.
  8. Opens fine with N4.70, Mozilla 1.0.1, and Opera6.05.
  9. Attached are pics of my Atom Legend. -atom_malfuntion.jpg has the bridle routed to cause a container lock. It looks quite clear that all is not as should be. The contrasting bridle color helps a lot. -atom_incorrect.jpg shows the way I've jumped the rig twice. If this way of routing the bridle was made impossible by the rig design, it would also eliminate the "trapped bridle"(I think). -atom_bythebook.jpg is the correct way shown in the manual. (oh yeah, remember I'm not a rigger, I just like to ramble about things that interest me.)
  10. Yes well, if the change was done sometime in the early 90's, I wouldn't expect that the messenger has arrived Down Under yet.
  11. The best description of wrasl'n I've ever heard was "Its a grown man's soapopera." Yes, such sophisticated entertainment, fit for adults.
  12. And for the sake of completeness, here's a pic of an older Atom.
  13. >Why downsize quickly....its not a race That's not the point: I've posted about this before... If most instructors tell someone his choice of a canopy is a good one, very few will buy a bigger one just because they read about it on the 'Net.
  14. If you don't know what kind of picture you want, why are you getting one? I don't have any tattoos myself, basically because I haven't found a design I liked enough to have permanently on my skin.
  15. Hell, I guess I should order one too. (see Gear and Rigging)
  16. This was true with the older Atoms. The Legend is packed pretty much the same as most newer rigs, except that the bridle is supposed to come from under the side flaps. There's nothing to prevent the jumper from routing it from above though. I should know, I've only jumped my new rig twice(4 months ago) and I packed it exactly the way it's not supposed to be packed... RTFM! "The designers of idiot-proof systems frequently underestimate the ingenuity of true idiots." Attached is the closing sequence of the Legend.
  17. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" was on tv two days ago. Man, there's one fucked up movie.
  18. Kevin's post in Incidents got me thinking. Since that was not the first and won't be the last time someone has a container lock due to a misrouted bridle, could this be taken in to account in rig design? Would it be possible to design a more "idiot-proof" rig, in which misrouting the bridle would be more difficult? In the attachment, the red dotted line marks the new suggested cut of the side flaps, so that their upper edge would flush with the pocket of the last flap. This would make it look weird if the bridle was routed from above the side flaps. The continuous red line represents the proper routing of the bridle in this "idiot-proof"-system. So, all you riggers and rig-designers out there, what do you think? Is there some fundamental flaw in my idea or would it just be impractical for some reason? The main advantage would be of course that there's one less place to jam the bridle in(under the sideflaps). What disadvatages this design would have? Other than the fact that it would be new and different.
  19. >"4-way star" used to be "4-man star?" Not me, but old timers >have told me it changed because women in the sport objected >to the old term. Any confirmation on that? Nope, but I'd much rather participate in 3-way instead of a 3-man....
  20. Trying to do a search on "rw" "fs" or "rw fs" gives zero results in each case. Is this a bug or a feature(not accepting searchwords shorter than n characters)?
  21. Since you fell so strongly about it: It's not like its news... The subject has been briefly discussed here. As to who changed it, it must've been the IPC, since they are the source of the official rules. It had been changed in 1997, that was the oldest document I found on their website. I've always jumped FS(and not RW), but that's probably because I've only jumped since '98, and competed in 4-way FS since '01. Older jumpers call it RW here as well.
  22. It was "changed" quite a while ago(don't remember by whom) along with RW-->FS to give a more descriptive name to the disciplines. "(Canopy) Relative Work" is pretty vague for a whuffo, whereas "Formation Skydiving"(or "Canopy Formations") pretty much sums it up.
  23. ...You're being too modest. This: ...is one of the best ideas I've heard for a while. Silent sections in an otherwise loud skydiving video have a very powerful effect. This is very much true. I think some kind of visualization software could be useful for this(something that translates the music into shapes, colours and movement, I think Winamp has plugins for that), but the help from a hearing person would be the easiest solution.
