  1. >> A 4,000 lb gerbil on a wheel the size of a ferris wheel, >>60 feet in diameter. Ummm... of course, this is just a theory. > >Sounds kinda like a bad Japanese horror flick... Yeah, or a catastrophy movie from the 70's : "This is the power source of the future. Absolutely nothing can go wrong. There is no way the giant gerbil can escape the wheel.".
  2. There's the problem I believe. Pulling your elbows down can cause you to cup air with your upper body, causing backsliding(which is countered by your legs). Other than that, how do plan to dock with your hands at your ears? Keep your arms in a neutral position, ready to be used for docking, and use your legs for the forward drive. Coaching and having video taken(and later analyzed by someone knowledgeable) from your jumps is also a good idea.
  3. A few examples of the unique Opera-features I use: -The "Back"-button. Shortcut is "ctrl+cursor_left". Especially handy since I use a mouse-trap. -Zoom. Shortcuts are "9" for zoom-out, "0" for zoom-in and "6" for normal view. Very useful at sites with ridiculously small text for example. -User configurable search options. Want to find out wtf a platypus is? F2 to open the box for entering an url, type in "c platypus", I get the Cambridge online dictionary page defining that word. Want to find software? I type in "b searchword" and I'll get a search results page from my favorite download site containing the word 'searchword'. The search engines that Opera uses are freely configurable. -Easy way of toggling whether or not images are shown on the web-page. Very useful over my GPRS-connection on heavily graphic sites. Simply press "G" to toggle "show images"/"no images"/"only cached images". I'm sure there are more, but they're so second nature now that I can't remember any...
  4. >As opposed to just drinking the alcohol and feeling really bad. Yeah, why bother with the extra step and the expensive medicin?
  5. >I'm not sure there is a great deal of difference in terms of configuration options Well I'm pretty sure there is. I have only limited experience with Mozilla1/Netscape7, but I doubt they're anywhere as configurable. There's a good (but long) article on the nice things in Opera6 here: http://www.tntluoma.com/opera/lover/6/ What I find very much superior in Opera is the amount of keyboard shortcuts. Almost every key is used for something. And I think in Opera7 the shortcuts will be user-configurable too!
  6. Well silly me translating the phrase from finnish without checking the spelling... Looks like the english spelling is "antabuse". Google that and it'll give a shitload of english links.
  7. Damn you, now I've got the silly song stuck in my head....
  8. >Besides, I kinda like to have someone look over the rig every once in a while. AFAIK that's the main point. A modern reserve will work just as well after being packed for a year, as long as it has been stored properly. As a matter of fact, Parachutes de France gives a (maximum)12 month packing cycle for their Techno-reserves.
  9. I'd have no use for a WAP-version, but I've been thinking it would be nice to have a "light" html-version of the forums for slow connections(including GPRS and other mobile connections). The forum-view page for Talkback, for example, was 58kb when I just checked it(without pictures), when the actual information on the page would fit in less than 10kb. Actually the information fits in 1827 bytes, but with basic formatting the size of the page would still be notably less than 10kb. The page showing the "Space exploration"-thread was 136kb, the actual text was 32kb, so I think it would fit under 50kb with just basic formatting.
  10. >sits in the front row, How the hell do you see someone passing notes from the front row unless you're looking backwards and thus not paying attention? edit: BTW the pics labeled "I live for this shit" haven't uploaded properly.
  11. >Show the boobies !! (Someone has to say it) >Protect the environment Big shoes you're trying to fill there, are you sure you're up to the task?
  12. I don't recall anyone being forked for oneliners in Talkback after the newest forums (including General Skydiving) were opened. Skymama gently reminded about Sangiro's bandwidth costs in a thread where every other word was "fuck", but that's it.
  13. >How about adding a timezone-offset field in the userprofile Like this one(attached)? >so that when we post, the post time and the local time will show up. ernokaikkonen Pooh-Bah (Full Profile) Jan 21, 2003, 1:30 PM local time 1:30 PM Views: 0 I think there's enough information in the message "header" as it is. >Would be interesting to know when people post. Middel of the nigh, >early morning.... Almost everyone posts at work. Was there something else you wanted to know?
  14. >Dare I say it. >Bletherchat is Finn.ished for today. Well damn, I can't even fork you here.... I feel so naked and vulnerable!
  15. Alas, I have no way of telling.
  16. To be completely honest, it's a major fuckup in the code: The script creates a lockfile, does it's thing, and deletes the lockfile. Somebody must have terminated script execution while the script was "doing its thing".
  17. ...crashed, sorry guys. I can't fix it from here, so you'll have to postwhore on DZcom instead. I'll fix the chat tonight.
  18. What has always worked for me is beating the knot() with something. Place the knot on a hard surface and repeatedly tap it with something(handles of various tools have worked well). That should work the knot loose enough to open it with your fingers.
  19. >"Bluefingers?" Is there a story there I missed? Apparently yes, but it'll be easier to stuff a freeflier in an RW-suit than it is to get her to share the story.... I did the S/L-progression too. First freefall was jump #20... At least I got plenty of time under canopy.
  20. This thread had a very good explanation about collapsible pilot chutes.
  21. > I've essentially given up on yahoo, and changed all my >subscriptions over to hotmail, which I'll use until it too becomes unusable. Funny, a few years back I switched from hotmail to yahoo after one day I just couldn't log on to my hotmail-account anymore....
  22. >Or should I just leave it all to the wife? Absolutely! Delegation is the key success(and to avoiding awkward situations). I did vote for "now", but I'm probably the last person you'd want advice from on raising children...
