See, Dave, I could hear you say that. It came out "Yollerah" or "Yollerabuncha" just one word. Like "Squeet" for "Let's go eat" And "Boutamunago" for "About a month ago" It's cool bro, I gotcher back.

No. I occasionally go low. But only at my home DZ
-
Hey! I remember that! I was on top of both of you! Let's do it again next month! Whaa-ha-ha!

In my opinion, and experience, the paper thingie is the equivalent of a bead sight on a shotgun, and a ringsight is the equivalent of a sniper scope. They both work, but a ringsight is a quantum leap more accurate. Now, there are plenty of camera fliers who are dead-accurate without any kind of sight, but they are the equivalent of trick-shooters. They can shoot from the hip and hit dead-center every time. Nothing 10,000 camera jumps can't fix. I'll use the scope. JP

Tu eres un genio, Cajones!

I do a lot of hiring (and firing) and I just get weirded out by the notes. I think if you're going to do it, do it from outside with USPS. Anybody out there ever make a hiring decision cause you got a note? "Gosh, two great applicants. OH! we got a note! Hire that one!" Really? JP

Yeah, Q, these new guys. SEND BEER, HUCKFINN! TO BOTH! Parallel over paralax. For over the top RW it's really not noticeable with a .5 diamond on a PC120 and a Nikon N70 with a Nikon 28mm. I post the cameras and lenses cause they do frame different. When you get REALLY close, for the close-up face shot on a tandem, your topmount still camera will be just a little high, and your sidemount PC video will be just a little left. Focus the ringsite just off the right cheek of the tandem student and you're money on both cameras. I love this stuff. And yeah! REAL answers from the monsters in the industry. You donate to Sangiro lately? Cheaper than buying that "flying the camera" book. And jokes too

Congrats! JP

Huh? You talking to me? Union = Bad for skydiving. How much for the tandem jump? HOW much for video??!! Just the jump please..

This is where I was at when I started. Exactly. So, I'm a proficient camera flyer and I get good tandem video. As of today I have 455 jumps, 260 with video, about 100 tandems. I had to lurk my video concession owner, and then lurk some tandems and AFF, and then I shot video of tandems where the instructor was comfortable with me out there. I sold some of the "spec" video, and once I was consistently getting exits, close ups, and openings, I was allowed into the rotation. I'm still on the JV, cause the other camera flyers have over 6000 jumps each, but I'm an accepted member of the team by the other camera flyers and the tandem masters. Most of the tandem masters were good coaches too. They are used to seeing where the camera flyer is supposed to be, and would signal "lower, closer" to help out at first. I get three or four a week now on the weekends, when it warms up I'll get up to 10 a day. JP

Getting kicked in the face during a Tandem opening.

Wow. This is a blast from the past. I was reviewing some of my early tandem video stuff, and I have so much more fine tuning on my distance control. I'd still like to get lower (Vectors) but I never hear the comment "My friend is so much closer in his video" Tandem video is big fun! JP -
I knew you'd be putting this one up. Rutan has the coolest nogiveup brand of practical genius. Neato. JP

Well, shit. Holly is the first aquaintance of mine to die in this sport we all love so much. I imagine she just read this over my shoulder and shouted: "BEER!" I'll go read about it now in incidents. But the why and how don't matter with regard to condolences, just the objective reality that the world is a less bright and sparkly place now.

Congrats! Didja get it on video? Did 10 yesterday. I don't know HOW Rdutch did so many last week. I'da died. 500 in Perris. 455 right now. Bout a monago? right. JP

Pretty tough call. Since I own both the Diamonds, I got no reason to get a red eye to do the comparo. If somebody brings one where I'm at, I'd be happy to put them both on my 120 and take some pictures to compare. JP

Will do! Still got the Power Puff sticker on? Or did it peel off doing all that head-down!? JP

The best is the Tony camera suit with the D wing, if you fall fairly fast.

Supercoolio as usual, Roy! Great to see Emily! My first Perris buddy!

Smile and pop! You got it! JP

My new phone downloads news, and reviews, movies and stuff. I read that. I miss holiday overtime. It used to be a huge joke to take a half-hour on Christmas to do "business" at double-time-and-a-half.

I don't like the focusing method of my new 10D
Deuce replied to Deuce's topic in Photography and Video
Hey, guys, I just got the thing Wednesday. Well I had the camera body before that, but without a media card and lens it's not much fun. First day to fly it is tomorrow, I've got to solder up the connection to the camera. It just feels wrong to buy a fancy switch for $50, then cut off the switch part and throw it away. It's more like $50 for the connector... I'm up to page 80 in the manual. There is an awful lot of potential to do very fancy stuff with exposure and color. Kind of like electronic filters. I think I read Quade as saying leave the original photo alone, and do the digital modifications on copies. As I've said, I'm no photographic artist, I'm a mechanic. If my exposures' go from absolute white to absolute black, and are framed right, Bueno! The concession owner at my DZ is seriously thinking of going all digital, so I'm psyched about that. My only concern is that our flyers on a shoestring budget might get X'd out by the cost of this gear, and I don't think we're going to be able to raise prices much to offset sinking so much into equipment. But with the elimination of the need to purchase film, maybe we can get a bigger cut. I'll get some photo's this weekend, and post them. Oh, it's got something like "anticipatory auto focus" so it tracks moving objects and forcasts where they're going to be and then focuses there when you shoot. Sounds fantastic for swooping. Josh Hill has some great swooping shots on his site, he uses a 10D or a D60. Really cool. JP -

Neat! I just got the lens and CF card yesterday, and I'm still exploring it. OK, DER! Picking the focus point is actually much cooler that the limitations to the center of the screen that the Nikon had. If I was using autofocus on tandems, I'd choose the one at the top of the screen, cause that's where the tandem focus point usually is. Man, oh, man. This thing's got more computing power than the Space Shuttle, well, that's not saying much... Well, no. But I sure 'preciate it! -
Yes, dear, we do. But this close to Mexico we pronounce it "Tek-eee-lah", not "Tek-kwilla" like they do in Georgia. Better yet, pack up a few mason jars of that clear liquor you can get from that-friend-of-a-cousin-of-a-guy-I-know Man, that'd put the rocket boosters on the Lummy Happy Dance!
