  1. With all the options that the 550EX units give, unless you already own a bunch of other flash gear, you wouldn't need it. Thanks, though.
  2. What's vertical speed on a raft dive? I didn't see that in the other thread. I'm thinking pretty slow.
  3. Hey, I just found this old thread on raft dives that has a lot of good info on it. Don't want anyone to get hurt. I know you guys have done them, but I haven't. Yes, that means it would be my first, along with the night jumps. Do I still have to buy beer if there's free beer already? You don't have to BUY beer, you have to FETCH beer!

Women! they must be hitting you with their purses... Naw. That's me running with this velcro walking cast thing on. Kinda like hyenas taking down a zebra, but they're both cuter and Bets is a neck-biter

Ah, that's the great thing about these camps. All the tedious coordinating and timing and figuring is done by Kate, Tony and Dan BC. All we gotta do is show up at the dirt dives on time and skydive our asses off. If you were a real skydiver, you'd be here for that weekend too. Yeah, different kind of real skydiving. With toys. So B-squared's not a real skydiver, since she's gonna be playing in NorCal? (JP steps back and prepares to run from both skydivas. It's a horrible sight. He runs! THUMP-whap!, THUMP-whap!, THUMP-whap! TACKLE-Crash!) AAAAIGHHHHH! GET THEM OFF! GET THEM OFF! UNCLE! UNCLE!
  6. Blair, you set up your ringsight and set the video camera on "stills" mode. Sight your target and push the Photo button. Take the camera off and look at the picture, if it's centered, you're golden. Tighten everything down and you're sighted. You can also do this with the photo mode to the tape, it's just more of a hassle to rewind the tape to see the photo. the memory stick is the media where the camera stores MPEGS and stills. I have a PC 120BT on a side-mount.
  7. I'm pretty sure that's the car that poor LT had to put to sleep. Her new car is pretty dang cool though. I keep my neck straight and grab my risers as soon as the canopy stands me up. I clear my airspace on rear risers, turn off the camera, stow the slider, release my brakes and get to 1000 feet, turn the camera on, get my landing hopefully get swooped by a veteran canopy pilot for the customer's video, then de-gear and get the landing "whoo-hoo that was the most awesome thing I have ever done!" footage. My helmet is heavy but I can't figure out how I'd hold it or my chin during deployment. I did have to get new dress shirts for work, though, my neck is like an inch and a half larger since I started doing video and stills every weekend. edit: I jump Spectres

While you guys are doing that whole engineering thing of coordinating planes, and timing exits, and figuring out how to get 24 people of a plane in an instant without stalling it, getting a 20 way base built by 10 grand..... The party light will be lit in NorCal and we'll be tossing Mamas and Ballerinas out of cargo planes in boats. We'll miss you, but we're drinking what you're not Good luck. Have a productive, wonderful time. I'll be going head-down with a stuffed giraffe or something.

Don't sweat Gaffer's tape, we've got lots of camera fliers coming, so that's not a worry. You just need the glow sticks for the jump, but a strobe is a REALLY good idea. If you land way out, it helps to get a car to you, and if you get hurt and your canopy is over you, you will still be visible as the strobe illuminates your canopy from underneath. Make sure Skydance JP has some, if not, really, get one. You turn it on once you are under canopy.
  10. Shannon, you are always armed to "Pie" Jimmy All Right! You want me to save you guys a campsite? My Mom's watching the twins, and Corinne's gonna be there for Sushi and nite dives Friday, and for the Saturday Luau. Gotta bring our Hawaiin CRW shirts! This is gonna rock! Two Byron Camera Fliers not in rotation! Lemme know if you want my spare big tent. SMILE! It keeps your face from getting all flappy!
  11. Dude, watch it or she'll kick your ass out over Death Valley. If she let's the ninja loose on you, you're dead Or maybe she'll just quietly put on her seatbelt and then flash the pilot to have him bang you around the interior of that beast like a BB in a beer can. Ouchthat'sgottahurt!

Hey whoa! Don't bail on me! If you just launch a 4 way round I'm gonna be hassling you with my flash the whole time! from outside! While you guys are nervously riding up to do your first solo, the D-license holders are going to set the DZ.night hybrid record! We OWN the night! Everything we do is the night record until the next DZ.invasion somewhere they're doing night jumps! Heck, they might even get the Van going if the demand is high enough
  13. Just put a walkman on while your wife gets undressed for bed. I put a pole in the master bathroom, but she made me take it out
  14. No. I won't be on page three. How much will an 8 X 10 picture of Skymama and B-Squared in freefall in a raft be worth? I bet Carl Sagan would pay billions and billions.

Hide your tall rubber boots and be nice!!!! Yeah, but Clay, you can't put human feet in the boots with yours to keep a person from getting away from you, like with your usual playmates.

Darkness night jumps? Cause if you haven't done those, you're on track to get your D license night jump requirements on June 27 at the American Boogie. You betcha Yahhhhh.
  17. I love it. Profligate. That's the word for shooting digital stills. Gluttonous. It's like eating your favorite food all day and not getting full and not getting fat. But after the last couple thousand pictures I've shot, I'm getting tired of deleting them and I'm taking much better pictures in the camera, and fewer. And I don't need a thermometer, trays, sinks, and a dim red light. My camera body (10D) cost about the equivalent of 6000 developed prints. Developed prints are your indication of skill. "Look at this one, F-stop, shutter speed, depth of field, lighting, angle" etc. Yes. But digital can do that for you right in the plane. -Benedict
  18. Me too, but I use a 20mm. I follow Quade around and copy all his stuff. The pace at which you can improve your photography is several orders of magitude faster with digital. I have always been into photography, over 25 years. The climb in my skills since gettin my 10D is a match for everything that came before. It's like being a Sports Illustrated photographer with a monkey handing you a loaded camera every 36 frames and then immediately doing contact sheets. With a gig card, my 10D holds over 400 photos. And no chemistry. God I hated chemical developing. I just have to be careful when I have my film camera on to not blow a bunch of photos. You only get about 38 from film. You get OVER 10 TIMES MORE doing digital, and it costs nothing to see them. Dump the chaff and keep shooting. Uh, yeah. Digital.
  19. We are thoroughly covered. You've got Team JP and Galli on digital stills and video. Close up, huh? Yeah, I can do that. And print it on my new "I'm copying Quade's" printer. You're coming from Washington. So I was right
  20. No, doofus, I'm just wrong. Or just sorta wrong. The Mama isn't JUST flying out for the boogie. She's got a long list of heartbreaking in California to conduct, and the American Boogie is just a layover. Let's see, folks from Arizona, Florida, and Wisconsin. Pretty cool. Nice job Sangiro-san!
  21. My favorite cousin moved out there, and even though she was once a California Girl, that's how she says it. She says "oooooh" a lot too. As in "Oooooh, so yer a skydiver now. You betcha" Stuff like that.
  22. From Wis-KAHN-son! You are currently the distance champ!
  23. Dude, I've got a plastic model of your Avatar on my computer right next to my MojoJojo action figure. The only DZ.butt I've kissed is B-squared's Go AFTER Christmas. The day after. Return on New Year's eve, or have your family join you in AZ. Live like Deuce. It's painful, but it works
  24. It will go away. I had the same problem and this is the solution! Clear your ears right after you stow your slider! The densest part of the atmosphere is right at sea level to about 4500 feet (Approx, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm only addressing the topic of ears) So, if you clear right at 3000' and again when you touch down it's much easier on your ears than doing one clear after descending from 14,000 to 0'. I used to SCUBA dive (I skydive now) and you clear your ears all the time to keep them equal to outside pressure as you descend. Try it, it works great for me.
