  1. Also watch the risers. Did the canopies deploy clean of each other or was one deployed through the risers of the other?.. worse case scenario, through front and rear risers of one side of the other? I'd hate to chop a main that has a firm grip on my reserve. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  2. I think they're more focused on the safety issue, John. Well let's make sure we know what we're talking about here. There's comfort, and then there's safety. Smart jumpers wear their rigs with both. John posted that when he gets on the plane, he is ready to exit the plane. Good on 'im. I don't think him leaving his straps a little lose for comfort sake, and then cinching them later is the witch we're after here. I have seen some jumpers board the plane with their legs straps open to the stops, that don't bother to ajust them properly until minutes before jump run. I'd put money on the fact that they aren't getting out like that in the event of an emergency. Which means one thing to me: They are going to try and hold me up in the event of an emergency. Squirel: So which was it? Do you figure this instructor could have left the plane the way he entered it? Or was an adjustment of his gear necessary prior to exit? There is a difference. Good on you to be concerned, but please let us know. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  3. They gave you a licence?!!!?!! lol Straight up, Nice Job Andy My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  4. Perhaps nobody is falling for trolling. If he's a troll, I don't see him getting the food he's after (i.e. badmouthing the company) Just good-hearted advice pertaining directily to the questions asked My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  5. I hear your concern and understand where it comes from but seriously, you should see some of the innovations some riggers come up with in terms of useful "tools". Can you say MacGyver? As already posted, the responsibility lies with the rigger and so does the choice of tools used so if you think you can make something new and improved, I say have at it! That might be an issue... seeing as someone surely has a patent on whatever tools are already created... but if it's not mass produced, I'm sure there's no prob. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  6. You mean "Can't" right? That's a very good point Kelp, with the SOS, you couldn't just whip out "extra nylon" and "land" with two out if you wanted to. (i.e. in a low altitude wrap/entanglement) Edited to add:... then again, maybe that's not the case. If you are wrapped up... a cutaway doesn't necessarily mean you would lose the drag created by the main... seeing as it's... well, wrapped around you somehow... still I see your point. You wouldn't want to have that theory fail and find yourself in a short freefall. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  7. Bwahahahaa! Dude, where was I for that? So the thread be simmerin' down now. Glad we can all play nice. lol Borg! Happy you opened the can of worms. Glad it worked out for you and you can now come to a very good informed decision. Blue Skies Nick My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  8. But you yourself are a real person. Who has a life outside of DZ.com. It is very possible that what you type here is what you say out loud in the real world. So though it is typed several times to "pull your reserve handle", when one person says: "pulling the reserve handle does nothing", or "I am a backup to my RSL", you find some are quick to tell you not to think like that... truly, what they(we) mean is: "Don't speak like that". Just like Ron said, you are 100% correct in the technical description of what occurs with your gear during a cutaway. But the dellivery, the actual method and the terminology used.... All it takes is one person to read it once and misunderstand... well, and then of course, one jump. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  9. This happened to a guy at my home DZ a couple years ago. He couldn't get his finger freed so he popped his reserve. Wow! Goes to show you what you never think of as an issue... has presented itself to other as one several times before. Out of curiosity, with what would you fill it? (dear liza dear liza) My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  10. I once saw a rig that had a plastic Homer Simpson head at the apex of the pilot chute. Thought it was pretty cool
  11. I really like that last one. Don't know exactly why it stands out to me... cool though. (p.s. re: the raft dive. I have heard it's not good to have handles like the rope you've got there, fastened to the boat at two points. That a few ropes connected only at one end, would help prevent getting hung up on 'em or say, having your pc go through them... I'm not sure if that's clear enough an explanation... but just thought I'd throw it in) My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

    South Park

I found you're telling me to "eat it" very harmful. You should therefore, stop it? My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  13. It's a clown. Who doesn't like clowns? me Me also. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  14. How do you know that? Have you been to real EM? (Clarified in PM, he is asking how I know if I have never had a malfunction) I have had a malfunction. Just one, it was a lineover. I pulled both my handles. It's a good thing I pulled them both, I don't jump with an RSL. Now, I'm still unsure about what you're looking for... do I answer your inquiry? My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  15. He is the little man that lives under the bridge. Can you say Troll? I'm more concerned with it being someone looking to solicite a little bad-mouthing. It is said that SkyRide has mentioned comments found on DZ.com and are using them in counter suit. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

    South Park

decency may be defined differently for different people, but for MOST people, there are common denominators... one could even make the argument quite convincingly that there is perhaps a normal distribution of "decency." there are those things that most people would consider decent. the avatar in question, IMO, would fall pretty far into the "indecent" tail of the bell curve of decency here... some here may find it acceptable, most would not. and while dz.com is no democracy, the "court of public opinion" here certainly holds some sway. IMO, that avatar has no place here and, regardless of it's reference to internet games or whatever, it needs to be removed. And you watch South Park? HAHAHA!! Noice! I'm in tears here. Some people are just Itching to do a little Bitching! My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  17. Well, he could start with the cable, at the housing, and go from there... But no, I wouldn't expect a student to have the presence of mind required during a malfunction. The RSL is compulsory for students. An experienced jumper however, especially one who had already experienced a malfunction during which he/she pulled both handles, would... And would likely find it. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  18. And though I'm not sure I have enough experience to. I'm going to second that. lol My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  19. In all fairness Ron, no he did not. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  20. And bill said I was arguing semantics! I didn't say you need to beat your RSL. I said you need to pull your handle no matter what. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  21. 1) I was not giving advice 2) The wave of people misunderstanding the safety devices in their gear to the point of depending on them (even in instances where their proper operation would not have them save you), is a considerable safety issue no matter how many jumps I have. If you want to say "Shut up", say that, don't "veil" it "thinly" lol My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  22. It is my thought that those things you might call "silly sematics", just might be the root cause of new jumpers misunderstandings and blatant misuse of their gear. The post I responded to said in black and white that "Pulling the reserve handle does nothing". I clearly stated that I know what he means... but that it is unnacceptable to state that YOU are the backup to the RSL. ... come on Bill, don't give me a hard time with "sematics" today, PilotDaves post is right there for you to consult. You wouldn't teach your students like that, and this is hardly a case where you chould feel responsible saying: "You teach the way you like." My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  23. It's not that I don't understand you Dave. It's that I cringe at the thought of a first-timer reading your posts. The fact that it can be faster-acting then you and will likely beat you to the punch does not make YOU backup for IT. I'll try to speak your language. You know how they say it's better to have and not need, then to need and not have, about stuff? Well think like that about proper EPs, rather then thinking like that about the strap connecting your main to your reserve pin. When you say pulling the reserve handle does nothing, I understand you. But it must be drilled into your head that the reserve handle gets pulled no matter what. (If you chose not to, that's fine, but don't share it on public domain, for newbies to misunderstand. lol.) Do you know why? Imagine a case where your RSL has been disconnected and you don't know of it (it has happened). You have a mal and you chop. There was a jumper who cutaway a total mal. She then waited for her RSL. Now I'm not saying that you would misunderstand you gear like she did... But if you spend each day thinking "pulling the reserve handle does nothing", then I wonder if you practice pulling one after the other. There is also the chance that the actual RSL fails. Unlikely, but I'd hate to encounter it having trained myself to react very poorly to it. Anyway, the above all lend themselves to the same possibility. On that day, you cutaway and find yourself in freefall... You say to yourself: "nothing happened, wtf? Why didn't my RSL work? I'd better pull my..., And that takes precious time away from you. You may very well spend the rest of your life "deciding" that pulling your reserve handle really does do something. OR...you could be around to tell people you didn't even think about it until after you were in the saddle thinking: "WTF? Did I just pull my own pin?" My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
