  1. I did vote: "It's who I am...first and foremost"... but not to say that I'd be a different person if I didn't jump. I mean I would sort of be. I'd of not met the same people and made the same relationships and such... I think those things refine one's self as opposed to define. But "who I am" parallels so closely the "typical skydiver" that I couldn't vote any other way. If anything, you could say it defines me in the sense that when speaking to a whuffo and they say: "All skydivers are crazy." I would typically respond with: "I am no exception." lol Nick My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  2. I noticed in your profile, you have 460 jumps. Are you sure you've made the right canopy choice? My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

  5. I see where your head is at... but just to clarify, femur is a noun. Hopefully. Because femur is not a verb but for our bastardisation of the English language (that means the truncation and misuse of words as well as the creation of slang btw) Break is a verb. As in: "to break one's femur"... but femur is the object in that sentence. "To femur", means absolutely nothing but to this particular generation of skydivers. They say what should be said (that we shouldn't be breaking ourselves as often as we do). Their reasons are clear (so many people breaking their bones, that we innaccurately refer to the bone itself as a verb, attach the dark-humour to it, and shrug it off as normal) It's ironic that you point out that "marketing people" don't care for technical accuracy when what you say is technically innaccurate. Look up the word. I promise you it isn't a verb. And extremely literate readers would agree... Is that what you are? My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  6. Hey I wasn't bitchin'... sh*t happens right? As far as calling the issuing court? Are you kidding? It is made purposely difficult and annoying to deal with these offices over the phone. My check was cashed, that was good enough for me. ... besides, I was never made to pay the $15 balance. They had raised the amount early, incompetents that they are. I only noticed this because I was on hold or being transfered between equally uninformative people for 90% of the time I spent on the phone with the issuing office the next day and chose to go over the dates on the ticket. My cheque was cashed two days prior to the deadline. It's a good thing the officer allowed me to drive home that night, or I'd be in battle against the city to reimburse a hefty towing bill... such a battle would probably go right on into my retirement years with the way they work. lol My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

  8. Wow. Sometimes it amazes me, the things that can cause people to be upset. Sometimes I wonder if we aren't just looking for excuses, to unleashe a little bit of that natural and escalating restlessness we as a people are facing each day. You know, I giggle when I hear somebody's personal conversation in a public place because I question whether or not the speaker is aware that he/she is practically broadcasting their personal lives... But I don't get my panties all in a twist about it you know why? Because it has no ill effect on my life. Honestly, wtf do I care if I can hear somebody in the room talking on the phone? It kills me! You go to a restaurant, there are tables galore, seated at them are other patrons... talking amongst themselves.... but it's the guy or gal that's yammerin' on his/her cellphone which angers you? Check yourselves people... or eat at home... or wear ear muffs when you eat out. lol People who are all over the road because they are far more interested in their cell phone conversation... They compromise my safety, and the safety of my fellow drivers. People answering their phones during a movie... WTF are you doing???!? Get the hell outa the theatre!! But Grocery stores, shopping malls, restaurants? People talk in these places. This is a free world my friends. Let's be a little more accepting. You wouldn't get all pissed off because two business men are talking business while waiting behind you at the checkout isle... so why get all cranky about ONE business man, talking business to his partner on the phone? Sensless aggrevation... Take some deep breaths. Life is good when you're not looking for things to make it bad. Nick My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  9. Yeah but if you have not received the notice that your licence is suspended, then all the officer can do when he pulls you over is give you your notice. I had my licence suspended for an unpaid fine too. Well that is, I had paid the ticket via the mail but by the time it got there, they had increased the amount (due to time). They cashed my check and then suspended my license because of a $15 balance. The notice had just been mailed so there was no way I could have received it yet. Anyway, none of the reason matters to the cop. He sees "suspended" when he looks and is provided no info on why. They (government) like to keep it that way so that cops cannot choose to reason with someone who makes a strong case. Anyway, I got pulled over for speeding. The cop came back to the car: "Do you know you are driving without a licence?" I started freaking out and he was like "Okay okay I'm not charging you with that, it only just suspended so you haven't been served your notice. I will serve you your notice... As of now, your licence to drive has been suspended." He actually let me drive home... but he didn't have to. Nice guy, but I happen to think all patrol cops suck big time. 11. Famous people are people too. I know some of us tend to forget that. Let's put what's "legal" aside for a second and consider human decency. How would you feel, hounded by the media in this fashion? You say that if she doesn't like the limelight, she should chose another career. Then you say just because she's not putting albums out anymore, doesn't mean we can't continue to hound... Seems like she just won't be able to rest, ever. People can be such asshats sometimes... really My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  12. If you're sure you'll be uncomfortable then you will be. Might I present a possibility though? The possibility that the ONLY reason you will be uncomfortable is because you decided beforehand, that you will? Talk it through, you'll have to know WHY you are uncomfortable with the idea... not just "The idea of him with another girl" as a blanket statement. You have to explore yourself and truly understand WHY it makes you uneasy. There is a chance that it's just because of fear of the unknown. I have never understood the fear that your partner would leave you for someone you brought home together. Anyway, as a bottom line: be true to yourself, and respectful to your partner. Good luck. 13. huh?... someone call me? Just to clarify, the Goosie is good for the whole Gander! My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  14. I know what you are refering to... and it was the princesse's fault! My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  15. This part should be repeated. Not just repeated either, but actually re-read too My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  16. Seriously. I think we are making a bit too big a deal out of this... Not the smartest thing to do... but then again, neither is wasting energy getting all pissed off about it. just my $0.02CND My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  17. So... who took the picture posted at the top of the thread? My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  18. I am indeed "interested" in this subject matter, and will accept your "invitation" to discuss. "Blaming the injured /deceased or implying it was their fault often seems to be the first option." Firstly, I did not reading this. And immediately thought of a quote that I have read on these boards -as I'm sure you have as well: "Often, when a skydiver dies, there is a desire on the part of his friends to "not speak ill of the dead" - to not suggest or imply that his death was due to a mistake he made. However, 99% of the serious injuries and fatalities in this sport are due to mistakes, and one reason the sport is gradually getting safer is that people learn from other's mistakes _before_ they make them themselves. This forum is intended for just that sort of learning." -billvon The truth is that 85-90% of injuries and fatalities in this sport occur due to an error on the part of the skydiver in question. You present that this leaves 10-15% of 'em, the result of someone else's boner move. I would add that gear malfunction should be included here but it is not. What's more important though, is that you seem to convey a belief that we do not consider, or that we try to mask the fact, that our actions in the sky have an affect on the safety of our peers. I find that unfair and from my experience, completely untrue. Now here's a grey area. I present you the example of a two way tandems where the drogues come into contact. Did you see the video? I bet you didn't. This might fall into a category you are describing. Videos, incident reports that are passed around for "members only". Well, let's disect it. It is not being ignored. It is being used as a learning tool by those who stand to learn from it. I trust that the incident is "discussed" at great lengths. But existence of that video could cause the DZ it's tandem ticket. Hmmm... what to do? My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  19. What did you pay for it if I might ask? I wuffo acquaintance is selling his for $475CND and at first I thought it was a good deal. I'd only get it if someone here wanted it. ... sorry, don't mean to advertise in the forums. Thought It was a great deal though... maybe it isn't My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  20. The "Love Pat" after a pin check is to alert the jumper being checked that you are done. He/She can't see what you are up to back there. I was told it is proper etiquette to tap the side of the container. As far as the "Love Pat" goes after packing, that could be either beating it into a better-looking shape (I am guilty of this myself), or a simple "There there, good rig." love-pat (also guilty). ... Hell, ask around my DZ, I am known to lay down behind my rig and spoon with it for a few moments after packing. Hey, you can't just jump 'er and pack 'er!! lol, and besides, it spooned you the whole way down on your jump. Nick My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  21. Hello all, I was just wondering if anybody knows the DCR-HC21 and if it is used at all by skydivers. I just may have come across a great deal on one. I would not fly such a camera myself, but wondered if anybody would. Nick My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  22. Well, I see where this would be safer then a barrel roll because the bridal don't get wrapped around your reserve closing flaps or over the pop-top ... but is this additional safety worth the tradeoff?? What I mean is, it might not be so bad if the PC in tow was caused by a uncocked PC... but a cocked one does provide some 80lbs of tension at terminal... I would NOT want to be straddling that bridal lol My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  23. Are you certain about this? It's true, I have met people who were taught this way IMHO, wraping a bridal around yourself is a good way to help your reserve malfunction. Also, PC in tow is high-speed yeah? I wouldn't want to waste the time. Nick My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  24. As far as I have been taught, they are seperate terms. I like to emphasize the word "Hard" in "hard-deck" lol. As in: "That Deck is Hard and I don't want to hit it at increased speeds." Decision Altitude: Altitude at or before which you have made a decision about the canopy you have overhead (keep it or chop it... but not "continue messing with it") Hard Deck: Needless to say, you should have a canopy overhead by this alti Have your 'decision' made and enacted by this altitude. 25. I've seen the gear. If I'm not mistaken, he's refering to a "leg strap throwout"... that is, it's a BOC, but there is a Pilot-Chute pouch on the legstrap too... and a bunch o' velcro to 'hold' the bridal in place from the closing flaps to the legstrap (very ugly. lol). We'll be pulling the stiches and removing the strip of velcro. ...the extra pouch on the legstrap could be used to store a pair of shorts someday, on his first naked jump, I presume. And if that's not what Red's refering to, then it's the butt-bungee. Which will be an asset. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
