Are you sure you don't have that confused? In the first shot, there is blood in the closest divit. There can't have been much time to bleed in the first hole if he bounced. Also, in the third shot (Freezefestdivot4), it seems there are more footprints leading to and from the bloody divot. Makes sense to me that the two people ran out to where he was and not where he had initially bounced from. That's one of those pictures I'm going to hang onto to. Sorta thing I can add to my screensaver slide show. It will serve as a good reminder to me whereby the whuffos walking past my desk will just think it's a couple of retarded snow angels. lol Anyway, I'm really glad to hear he's alright. Well what would they expect? Such things as bounty hunters do exist you know. Lol. Jokes that they cosider this news. Nintendo wasn't surprised with the responses at all. It's all just free publicity. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

Could this really happen to/with any other rig (long)
goose491 replied to feuergnom's topic in Gear and Rigging
"Lighten up Francis" ... really... who's it hurt huh? Your third ring is your third ring, your reserve handle is your reserve handle. Knowing which is which or where each one is right now... is knowing your gear. Maybe because you hear sensless noise whilst people take a quick aside to address a next safety issue concerning the incident IN QUESTION. Don't make such a stink and this thread will be less "noisy" my friend. Because like it or not this is a Gear and rigging thread. It's not like I'm posting one-liners in here. I think my post clearly indicates how getting your thumb stuck in the third rign of the release system is most definately a gear and rigging issue. As in. Know your gear! Know that that handle can move around depending on the nature of your mal. Depending on how your weight is suspended. I quote an article from this very site. It talks about malfunctions. A gear and rigging issue no? I'm not making waves or "noise" as you call it. And as previously stated, I'm not harping on the jumper. But to be fair, it's pretty bold to say that a migrating reserve handle is not a gear and rigging issue. It was mentioned that it happened. How it happened has also been pointed out. It's been confirmed that this jumper could have benefited from some additional 3 seconds during this high speed mal.... and then you guys start flaming for not staying on topic??? Not cool dude. You have no cause to be angry. Just accept it as a valid point and LOOK, GRAB, PULL! Nick My Karma ran over my Dogma!!! -
Could this really happen to/with any other rig (long)

payback462 said: And you answered: Hookit, At malfunction time, three seconds is a LONG time dude! I must respectively disagree and chime in that this is actuall very much a gear and rigging issue (combined with safety and training) which has been discussed here before. The jumper in question grabbed the wrong piece of his gear for reserve activation. This error cost him 3 seconds of his life and was due to the change in position of the ring due to his particular situation. This is how "Gear and Rigging" applies: -From Parachute Malfunctions. safety, emergencies: Large ring and ripcord handle Older harnesses used a plain round ring for the largest of the rings in the 3-Ring canopy releases. When the main canopy is jettisoned, the largest of the riser-release rings remains on the harness. If the rings flop down on the lift web (in our case, the lift web was shifted by the nature of the malfunction) , the one near the reserve handle may be mistaken for that handle. Both are large silver rings and the reserve handle may have shifted from its normal position. Some jumpers have broken away only to tug on the wrong ring. (our jumper took 3 seconds to realise and correct) Some never lived to tell about it. (ours did, and have video -
Chest Strap. Often, I don't have to tighten the leg straps. Just slip in. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

No two bodies are alike though. I assume you could make up an "Average Joe" for experimentation and research. Calculate the weight of the "Average" man for example, and then figure out how that weight is distributed by using Average, General proportions of mass/weight/surface area of each limb etc.... Then you could do all the theoretical math you wanted to to find body positions for max glide, best vertical speed, minimal backslide.... blah blah blah.... You'd come up with the positions we are taught as students though My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

I would suggest removing the old lining, salvaging it as best you can, and then taking it apart to be used as a model. How it goes together will become more apparent as you take the old one apart. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

TITAN heads up display altimeter
goose491 replied to voodew1's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Wild. You'd think the thing would be a little more slick than that!... that thing is gawdy. You'll see I was asking about Sunnto Altimeter watches in the gear and rigging thread. I've got the notiong to mount one to the "forehead part" of my helmet so that it would sit upsidedown, with it's back against my forehead. Then to mount a small plastic mirror of simila size, butting out at 90 degrees to it (thusly sticking an inch and a half or so straight out like the rim of a hat.) This way you could look "up" at it and read the altitude right side up. Get it? What do you all think... It would be a lot more compact a system. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!! -
Hello Edu. I jump a wings and had my right riser cover flappin' in the wind once. They're built pretty snug but I really don't think there's a rig out there that won't flap a flap once in a while. I wouldn't worry about it unless it becomes a regular occurence. Then my suggestions are twofold. 1) Talk to your rigger about getting those "ears" filled a bit more during your reserve repack... could thicken out that erea, giving the riser cover more to wrap around, giving the riser cover tuck tabs a little more bite. 2) Is the rig fitted to you? If the verticals are too long, the rig could 'sag' on your back... like there's a little slack at the shoulders. In head down, the rig would be allowed to slide down (up your torso ;-) and then there's slack at the tuck tabs again. Hope you get it sorted. It's prolly nothing. Nick My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

ha-ha! That was pretty funny. I particularily like from the disclaimers section. Looks like you guys have waaay too much time on your I.T. hands. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

You do the jumpin.. she's a whuffo. My ex girlfrined () comes from farm land. I always thought, if I was to propose to her. It would be by jumping onto her fathers farm with a banner. In fact, my mother is a pilot... she flys banners for a company too. I had pictured a plane towing a banner that said "I've fallen for you" flying over the field. And then of course, a guy "falls" out for all to see. Once under a canopy, he (me) would lower the flag that said "Marry me!" My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

Hardly. Sorry Ron, that wasn't really directed at you. You were just the last in the thread for me to respond to. All i'm stating is that I agree that you should have your eyes and sense of elapsed time as "primary" alti... but that IMO, just not wearing a visual altitude instrument when jumping with others is simply not smart. Your eyes may be very well trained... but if breakoff is 4500 then it's 4500. If we're all using our eyes on this 5 way... even if we all have the jedei-like training... We're still not all waving off and tracking away at exactly the same time. That's all. I'm saying don't rely on your instruments. But when they're that easy to obtain and use as backup... the added accuracy they give is nearly owed to your partners in the sky. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
-
Right on AndyMan, thanks :-) My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

Noble... and uh... cool in a sense, for some to chime in saying they use their eyes first and their altis second. It's important that we all have a good sense of what breakoff and deployment altitudes look like as well as roughly how long it should take to get there. But... a little too bold though, methinks (limited experience and all) to say that their eyes make for a more reliable reading. And if jumping with more than just yourself, you owe your partner(s) a little more accuracy. The double audible thing is groovy.... Still, I like knowing that my partner, over there in the sky, can look and confirm where we are... and isn't just too cool you know? My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

Hey Sam, Ah, I didn't quite get this part. What are you saying I should do here? lol. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
-
Hey Jerry. Do I take this to mean that you've been jumping without a primary alti? What have you been doing? Just relying on audibles? (don't flame, i don't mean relying relyin... lol... but no alti at all?) My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
