Sometimes, you gotta be quick, though, like if you're on the stairs at a bar or in a bathroom at a party! True dat! But let's be honnest with each other. When was the last time you thought much about pleasing the partner during a 'quickie' ? LOL, I mean really, fess up, on the stairs at a bar or in a bathroom at a party... ain't it just a race to the finish? Bwahahaaa! "I'm opposed to all this Sex on T.V.... I mean, shit! It's relative. I guess it depends on how you define "more"... I'm in auto insurance and one topic that always comes up is the fact that male drivers are more expensive to insure on the road. The numbers say that of the accidents that take place in a year, more of them included male drivers. Is this an indication that males make poorer drivers? No, because the numbers also say that there are simply more men on the road than women. Sure ladies, "You've come a long way" but today, when Johny asks Sady on a date, generally, he's still driving to pick her up. The stacked insurance rates are correct because when the company sees a new young male client come in at the same time as a new young female, it makes the assumption that there is more exposure on the young males policy. He will likely drive more often than she. The concencus though, is that the difference is becoming more and more negligable as more and more women are driving regularily. Within the next decade, auto insurance rates are predicted to be nearly the same for young male and female drivers. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

Bwahaahaaaaa!!! Dude, I almost feel bad for you. Your statement is near paradox. Find out what they want and they won't want it anymore . [whispers] Pst! What they want, is for you to keep guessing. [/whispers] LOL Good thread Val, uhm, let's see, sex tip... Keep laughing, it's good to laugh. Not enough people are laughing in bed together. The combination of different types of 'feel-goods' turns the human body into a bubbling chemistry set. Especially when you've got a little nerves to contend with. Popular examlpe? Maybe she's not as comfortable with her body as she should be? Make her laugh at the expense of yours or something. (small tip, we think naked females are sexy. Many of them think naked males are funny-looking) ha-ha! Tell jokes and just be silly starting in. It'll pay off in intensity before you know it... you know, like "Tears are streaming down her face for no known reason" type of intensity. Good luck! Nick My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

think you're an exceptional student? Read this

I scratched my head at his reasoning for that. At a similar number of jumps, I bought my first rig. I bought a rig made to fit a 135 also. It was for the same reason too! To make the container last longer for me... I.e. I crammed a Spectre 150 in it knowing I could downsize twice before selling it. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!! -
I've sorta been playing with that second sit position since I saw Dave Brown flying a suto version of it. Head up, he looks like he's flying head down... just upsidedown. He looks like a starfish or something similar. lol. Legs are wide apart, almost straight. Arms to the sides and a little lower than you'd expect for head up orientation. At first when I tried it out I thought, what the hell is this? Being so thin (without legs out in front of you, you are thinner 'front-to-back') I had a tendency to speed wabble forward and back. Took a couple jumps to get used to but now I think it's bomb digaddy!! It simplifies flying around in that you're body is more streamlined. In fact, the 'speed wabble' I described is a direct result of not having the pressure on the underside of my quads/thighs to rely on. That is, in a 90-90-90 sit position, you can move around using your hips but you can also get into the habit of simply 'leaning' your upper body which is less efficient (i.e. simply to present chest for aft movement and present back for forward) The new head up posision promotes the use of your hips to move around. It makes it easier to learn an input as there aren't so many other 'control surfaces' sticking out into the relative that may counter the motion you desire (without thought or unintentionally) Also, I find I'm able to move my arms around, (present dock, wave, give "peace", clap, point up and to the left then down and to the right like I'm disco dancing) with a lot more stability in this position. I attribute it to torque principals in that with your legs near-straight, the force applied by wind drag on your legs in not only greater (due to larger surface) that that on the arms but is presented further from the hips which would be the fulcrom point if you're finding stability issues moving your arms around. Firstly, Way to save yourself and your passenger! Glad to hear it went well. Of both the Tandem Cutaways I've been on site to whitness, neither of the passengers (first timmers) ever even realised something had gone wrong. The one landed and went a little green around the gills when the TM told her "The chute didn't open! We had to go secondary!"... the other was apparently shown the main floating freely whilst in the saddle under the reserve. "That's our parachute right there." says the TM "We just had a malfunction." "No we didn't! Stop trying to scare me!" She responded. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

Urban legend. One of the few that is not listed in snopes. Really? You don't see any truth in that? I wonder if there's a way to test and see. I'm thinking (physically), the canopy that's trash-packed would have more friction with itself in the snivel phase and take more time to sort itself out than the one that's perfectly counted, flaked and folded. Almost a serious incident - Do your own gear check!
goose491 replied to lewmonst's topic in Safety and Training
Yeah! I like that Deuce. Good show. I remember being taught to check the three rings on a gear check... that was it at first. Check that the medium is through the big, the small is through the medium, that they both turn freely and that the 'shoe-string' passed through the small. It wasn't until around self-super time that I was taught to check a) that the shoe-string was passed through the gromet in cable housing, b) that the cutaway cable passed through the shoe-string and c) that the cutaway cable was stowed deep enough in the riser channel. Sure good of you to worry about a friend but remember you are both new in the sport. Each and everything you both do right now should be "new". Now don't forget that as tight-knit a community this is, the sport is still very individualistic. Never compare your progression to a friends is a good rule of thumb for example. Try not to worry so much. Have this friend explain to you all the new things he's learning as he does so. Knowlege dispells fear. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

Yeah, Good show speaking up when you had concerns. With only the 4 of you, that type of breakoff can go without a hitch... providing everyone is experienced enough to keep track of everyone else. But you've got to be comfortable. I'd say you did just the right thing. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

True true. I'm also thinking it's not a bad idea to have in the car or something though. I mean my car will always be at the DZ when I am. And just for in case of an accident on the road... motorcyclists wear full-face. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

This thread got me thinking pretty hard. I'm going to go out and buy one of those CPR masks. You know, the ones you can get so that your mouth won't acutally touch the victims? I'm thinking of the out-cold-not-breathing-full-face-helmet-jumper now. I can picture perhaps working the mask into the helmet, getting a good seal and performing artificial respiration without having to remove the helmet. Good question. It's good to discuss and raise some awarness on the issue Bill but I really think the question you're asking is only answerable on the spot. Shallow breathing often accompanies the shock from a major trauma. It in itself is no threat to the patient. I mean, like you said, if they aren't breathing, then the bucket has got to go. But if they are, shallow or not, there will be no artificial respiration. So why does it have to come off? So perhaps I haven't read correctly. Perhaps your scenario is that the helmet itself is actually choking the patient? I suppose that's the only reason I'd see myself wanting it off. But i'd only attempt to remove it in this case if A) I have a concious jumper that can confirm that the helmet is the reason he/she cannot breathe right or B) I can asses and know, beyond reasonable doubt, that the helmet is the culprit. Otherwise, I think I'll just leave it on and monitor the breathing. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

Greatest Skydiving Long Weekend Ever!
goose491 replied to goose491's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hey all, Just thought I'd share with you the wonderful time I had this past long weekend. I think I had the best time jumping out of planes I've had since I started. Lot's of pre-seconds, lot's of new things to try. We didn't expect the greatest weather... but got it just the same. It's like the summer just started it was so hot. Plus there were absolutely no winds throughout all of Saturday. So Saturday morning we had a Tracking competition. Organised by Goran, there were 12 trackers involved. We'd take a jumprun perpendicular to the windline and dive straight out 90 degrees to direction of flight, tracking towards the DZ. 6 one on one races, we had to be in the saddle by 3 grand. We used the honnor system for that and thusly, it was easy to see who had gone the furthest. Some good healthy trash-talking in the plane... good to have a little competition from time to time. All involved had good fun. I was the least experienced jumper on the circuit but placed second overall!! (Thanks DZ.com for all the tips I was able to find during the week prior ) So now, I've got a free days WingSuit rental and instruction to try out!!!! Booya! So as I'm landing from the last round, still high from my personal victory, I notice my sister Heidi has arrived. Booya again! She's doing a tandem today! (I wasn't sure she'd show) Tara, a girlfriend of mine since Kindergarden, has come to do one too. So I've got an audience for the rest of the day because my girlfriend Heather, my brother and his gal have come to watch. Before long, Heidi is gearing up. My buddy Max and I are going to chase her out... Another pre-second for me. I'm a little worried because I suck on my belly so I discuss it with the tandem master. "Gonna go real fast out the door, then real slow when the drogue is out... Oh yeah, and don't be where the drogue is." The best piece of advice was from Mick "Remember, it's cool to be there but you don't have to be there." Right! Fast, then slow... haha! They still sunk out on exit and they still floated on me after the drogue was out but Max and I kept it somewhat tight. We stayed low on the tandem and video and that was the perfect place. No need to plow in trying to take a dock. Right here, Heidi can look around and see us both... Check out that smile! Check it out! She's waving to us! She did such a good job and enjoyed it thouroughly. I was so happy to be there. We land and I go to see Tara. She also had a wonderful jump and has but one word she utters periodically for about the next three hours... "In-credible" Some other interesting jumps: I did a solo where I went completely limp out the door and stayed as such for just over half the dive. I recommend this to all. It was interesting... I actually had to fight the tendency to right a turn or to stop a tumble... and just go with it. There's something real Zen about just... tumbling.. well, actually, I ended up pretty stable, on my back, with a very slight turn. I also made an attempt at getting my Chicken number. LOL, Dan and KFC have a rubber chicken and if you can take it from one of them and pass it to another while headdown, you get a chicken number. I flew to Dan and took it, then flew to Sarah. This was the first time head down with something in my hands... it really wasn't any big thing to compensate for (though there happens to be a lot of wind drag on a rubber chicken)... We were close Sarah and I. I might have docked the ol' bird on her tummy once or twice but we never did transfer the fowl... Damn, next time . Point to remember (And I did good): make sure if you've got something in your hands in freefal, it's in the left one at deployment. Another first for me was landing out on the golf-course. LOL. Good fun. People were actually playing the hole I landed on. Amazing, they really don't realise you're coming until you're actually on the ground right in front of them. Can you say: "Mind if we play through?" So! Sunday we've got a 4-way freefly speed scramble! There was a duct tape line a few feet from the door. Time starts when the leader crosses the line and ends when the one pre-determined point is built. Cool thing to run out the door single file and try to build something. It makes for a very cool visual on the hill and a very intense feeling throuout the dive. My team came in last but I've had such a great time flying with people I don't usual fly with that I couldn't care less. Thanks to all for the wonderful weekend guys. I can honestly say it's been the best. Blues, Nick My Karma ran over my Dogma!!! -
No ofense, but you have no idea how you will react. Also, it is very easy to go lower than planned while trying to do something. You really think you can tell when you are at 1000 feet while trying to save a buddies life? I'll not take offense because I know better. This is the very reason for this thread. True, no idea how I'll react. (But you do don't you? Mister "I'll take it to CYPRES fire".. Mister "I'll burn in for a couple friends"). Well, in this one particular scenario, I'm already lower than planned. Much lower... because 'planned' was prolly 3500 or 3000. I say I'd go to 1000ft for my buddy. Can I tell when 1000ft while busy trying to save him? Well, you can be certain I'm gonna know when I pass two grand.. and I've got my third audible warning set for 1500ft. If you read an earlier post of mine, I said I'd be pulling around when this warning stopped sounding. And it's even less seconds to CYPRES fire. Good thing I'm planning on beating it. So think I'm gonna miss my mark? Not realise when I'm at a grand? All I'm advocating is it's better to have an altitude in mind then it is to simply fall and wait (and hope) for the AAD to fire. If you would chase them (with a CYPRES) and not deploy yourself, but you wouldn't do the same without a CYPRES, then you are showing that you are AAD dependant and that you are accepting a level of risk you would not accept without this "toy" of yours. bwahahaaa! Just kidding. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

Hey Ron why don't you just create a link to posts of yours in previous threads? It'll save you a lot of effort. It'll sorta be like the 'way-back' machine. You'll not have to waste time typing the same tired old thing over and over again. Instead, each time you see "AAD" or "CYPRES" typed somewhere in a thread, you'd simply post your link, sit back, and watch people get aggravated with you. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

Worst Statement Ever! It implies that nobody can do anything they haven't done a buch of times already. Surely you can see the irony. How 'bout we stick with "Practice makes perfect" ? We practice docking one another all the time! I would not suggest we start practicing pulling for one another. Okay, I'm being nit-picky and playing around a bit. But you know what Ron? You are the only one on here saying you'd go in for friends. Please don't go practicing this. But you're right. One thing that should be made clear is: This thread is about making youself aware... ala: "I have a harddeck... how low will I push it for a loved one?" It's not about boasting ala: "I can pull it off." Normal: 3000-3500ft Lowest: 1800 Hardeck: 1500ft Hardeck for my unconcious falling friend (who does not have a CYPRES): 1000ft.
