No they aren't. My point is, the guy in front of you can take half an hour to leave... if you get out after him and end up half an hours worth of hosed... it's not his fault for hosing you... it's yours for getting out. No arguments here. I agree whole heartedly. We're talking about taking 6 seconds and being rushed at like 2 seconds though... not right. Plain and simple. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!! -

Bump! So.... Fess up... Anybody not jumping tomorow strictly because of the date? The girlfriend suggested-half-requested that I not jump tomorow. I shrugged it off then remembered this thread So, anyone frightened out of the air on this "Friday the 13th"? My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

Well, I've been hosed before by groups ahead of me taking too long. Whereby I may find it annoying... I would never say that they are hindering or ignoring my safety. My safety is my responsibility and nobody is forcing me to leave the aircraft if the spot is long. Just worth some consideration... if you land out, it's NOT the responsibility of the group that may have hosed you. On the other hand, to the original poster: Talk to the culprits, you could be taking it to seriously. I myself have been guilty of the old "Come on man!!! Get out!!!!". Usually in good spirits though. You know, teasing the 4way team that takes half an hour to set up. Sometimes, the entire plane full starts counting out loud once the green lights up. The team don't like that much My Karma ran over my Dogma!!! -
Cost of freebag (Tell me this is a joke!!!)

It still doesn't explain $863.71 though. That would be $513.71 for taxes and shipping? My Karma ran over my Dogma!!! -

I've been raped by customs before. First when I bought my helmet from 2Kcomposites in the UK and then when I bought my Samurai from a chap in New York. This should not be the case though. My contact does not pay dutie on these items as he has an American business stationed here in Canada. He was not home when the package came to his door but the UPS slip they left him says the inclosed invoice was for $863.71 USD. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!! -

Hello all, Some may know I had my pre-second chop a couple weeks ago. I lost both handles and never found the free-bag. A contact here in Ontario ordered them from sunrise rigging (it's Wings container btw) and now that they've arrived.... $863.71 USD !!!! Thank goodness he did not accept it before calling me Is that not madness? There must be some sort of mistake no? Should a freebag and handles cost more than half the container/harness system? I'm going to call Sunrise but wanted some input first... I've never had to buy a freebag before but most people asked told me to expect around $350 CANADIAN! (that's like 265USD) My Karma ran over my Dogma!!! -
I've got my open water but don't dive much. I too find SCUBA to be the more risky of the two. I think you'll find many skydivers that also SCUBA. The two sports are very different but the similarities that they DO share are what make them appealing to us... at least, the things that I find most appealing about both sports are the same. -sensation of weightlessness, floating or flight -3 dimentional environment -free range of self-initiated motion within those 3 dimentions -the joy of being completely unattached to anything -James Bond type gear -much at stake with small margins of error (the responsibility for ones own survival) -amazing visuals found nowhere else -constant reminders that there is so much more to life than your crumby nine to five ... and so on and so forth My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

Makes sense to me. Also, being as potential buyers all have different arm length it's prolly a good idea to err on the safe side. I guess it's better to be too short, have an "early" flare and have to adjust after a wasted swoop attempt then it is to be too long, have "no" flare and have to adjust after a bad landing My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

Thanks Aggie, [touches nose] I read ya ... but I never said "Only" about the 180s... I'm doing 180s and I take 'em very seriously. I understand the reluctance to inform people on HOW to kill themselves... but if the question is "Will I kill myself if...?" Oh well, I won't try to understand it. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

Ahhhhhh Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for. Ian do you mean 180 riser turns when you say "this aggressive"? Or do you mean the swoop you described from breaked approach? 'cause I'm very comfortable with the 180... I thought a breaked approach would ease the riser pressure a bit but was wondering what it would do to speed and altitude loss... I'll definately take my time. Thanks My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
-
Thanks Steve, I'm not 'concerned' with more speed though. Let's try a more straight forward approach: Is anybody on here willing to tell me the effects of starting my turn from deep-breaksas oppose to normal flight ???? -what does it do to the riser pressure? -what does it do to the recovery time? -what does it do to the altitude lost during the dive recovery? My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
-
Thanks for the concern. I'm in no rush. But I'm doing 180s and I'm asking questions about riser pressure. I realise riser pressure will decrease with a smaller canopy but that's not really the solution I'm looking for. The last part of my post. That's where my questions are... You know, about the deep breaks? My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

"tripped and accidentally touched the bride's bottom" huh? haha, right! Methinks there was a little history here perhaps? Like: "Oops, I bumbed into your daughter... a couple hundred times!" lol Oh that's some f*cked up sh*t right there man. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

Hello all, Common problem here, riser pressure increasing to the point where I can't hold 'em down. I jump a Samurai loaded roughly at 1.2:1. I start a 180 just below 400ft. I used to use only the one riser to start the turn. Now I get on both of them right away to build speed then initiate the turn by letting one up a bit and increasing pull on the other. I negotiate between the two a bit during the turn if I think I'm going to come out too soon or too late but I seem to always be coming out of the 180, hauling on both risers and barely keeping 'em down for the pressure. My question is this. If I start from deep breaks, will the riser pressure be diminished at all? To me it seems it should. Also, what would starting my 180 from deep breaks do to the dive itself? There will be more speed to gain before normal flight... so does it affect the time it takes to recover? What about the altitude loss before recovery? IOW, should I consider changing the initiation height if I'm going to try starting my 180 from slow flight? Thanks, Nick My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

So you did end up doing a naked jump then? bwahaahaaa! I did a fair sized tracking dive for my 100th (I think it was a 15 way or something). Good fun My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

...you don't mean intentionally right? Burn that Arch or boxman into muscle memory response dude. Practice symmety, have a coach take a good look on the ground and 'mold' you a bit if need be. You wouldn't be turning (or spinning for that matter) without having put in the inputs to do so. Remember, when doing your 360s, that you need only apply the inputs to create the turn or to accelerate it... once you've started the turn, go back to a neutral position and concentrate on heading... then, to stop the turn, it's simply the opposite inputs. Maintaining the turn inputs during your turn will keep you accellerating into it (spinning) So if you've got a spin on your hands, you'll have to counter it with the inputs required for a turn in the opposite direction. Hope that helps Nick My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

It's not all that bad for informing the first-timer. I was a little shocked to see them say a static-line jump would cost about $100 more than a tandem though My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

Breathing is a common issue in freefall. I often wonder if the well-known myth that you can't breath in freefall didn't stem from actual early skydivers expressing their difficulty doing so. Nearly all skydivers I know report that breathing properly is a definite factor when training. All you coaches, how many times have you found yourself telling even experienced jumpers "Remember to breathe!" I know I've caught myself coming off the hill and holding my breathe a handful of times when I'm doing something new or thinking too hard... now I'm making funny faces or signing songs on the hill to make sure I'm breathing properly. I progressed static line so the whuffo-rush/fright of climbing out and launching yourself from a perfectly good airplane had started to dull a bit before I did my first freefall... but I can imagine having a hard time breathing if the first time I ever jumped had significant freefall. It's all in the mind yes, but you can't really prevent it for anyone... not ever being able to actually describe what they are about to go through. just my $0.02CND My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

I've got a decent way of getting it in the bag without heartache. Hopefully I can word it well enough. After I've layed it out, thinned it out and forced the air out, I remain laying on top of it whilst I begin rolling the top portion of the 'sausage' away from me (or towards the floor). I then get up so that I'm kneeling right about the mid point of the 'sausage', I continue rolling to approx this point and then fold the rolled portion back (towards the label end). Now I've got the top end (not where the lines come in) S-folded tightly and I fit this into the bag with my left knee on the flap of the D-bag and my right knee on the remaining triangle of 'sausage' (with the label on it). Once this is done, I move over to the other side of the D-bad. I S-fold the remaining triangle and I stuff the S-fold right into the middle of the D-bag so the lines are coming out of the centre of two S-folds. Looks neat, stays tight, opens nicely. Hope I got that out clearly enough...hmmmm ? My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

Hey man, Do what you gotta do Speedy. I would hold off on selling the gear if I were you though. You may find that a decent hiatus will have you climbing walls... abscence makes the heart grow fonder and whatnot. As far as the forums go... there's no need to leave dude. There are plenty of posters here on DZ.com with 1 jump... no jumps... plenty o' jumps but none in the last decade... you will be welcome here. Anyhoo, hope you can keep yourself smiling!
