FAR's and wingsuit landing w/o a parachute?
goose491 replied to linestretch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
And you're being disrespectful. My bad Andy. I certainly didn't mean to be. I've edited the post you've replied to. Hopefully I will get a smile out of you. But I truly think that the landing area required is not the crux. If you tell me it's imposible to build... I will say that that is nonsense. Buget!? Reasonable??? Like, compared to what? I think there was a thread a while back "How much have you spent on skydiving?" "Reasonable" and "Buget" don't seem to go together in this sport. And they never go together in any sort of "First" or "Record making/breaking" attempts you know? Again, sorry, I truly mean no disrespect. Nick My Karma ran over my Dogma!!! -
FAR's and wingsuit landing w/o a parachute?
goose491 replied to linestretch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Landing on the slope absolutely makes a difference Bill!! We have a perfect example of how landing on a slope makes a difference to your deceleration trauma. Extreme Skiers! They jump off of cliffs at heights NO human could ever survive. But because they are landing on a slope, and because they carry forward motion, they survive the great falls because deceleration does not all have to occur in the "5 milliseconds" that you provide. It is comparable to a NASCAR driver... if he plows head-on into a wall at full speed, his car must decelerate to Zero mph in the short distance provided by the 'crumple' of his car (the compression of the ribs). The distance is too short, so the value of 'a' in f=ma is so great that we all know 'f' is far to great as well. Too much FORCE... he will not survive. If the same driver hits the wall with the same speed, but this time he hits it at an angle, there are two vectors to the FORCE that will decelerate him. One perpendicular the wall, the other parallel it. The Force Vector perpendicular the wall is met by an equal but opposite force from wall to car. Some kinetic energy is absorbed by the crumpling of his car at the corner and a slight deceleration is manifested as a result. But more importantly, it redirects the car so that the rest of the FORCE used to decelerate it is the FORCE of friction... parallel the wall. He rides along the wall... the rest of his speed is bled off... he survives. So which is it now Bill? What's gonna hurt you? Is it the distance, the Deceleration?... it's the FORCE that will get you and I see your argument... but you have him decelerating in such a short distance and time that there is no hope for him. See here: ... you are assuming the jumpers entire downward vector of 15mph will be decelerated by the compression of his ribs... and in 5 milliseconds. Truly you must be aware that this is not the case as the jumper will continue to slide down the hill after initial impact. As far as the Physics are concerned, they are sound. A wingsuit can be landed. The surviveability is this stunt is arguable only by the length of the landing area (because it will have to be loooonnnng) and the jumpers ability to stay stable once he/she has touched down (because it will be faaaaaasssst). The jumper will NOT experience a traumatic impact upon said touchdown. The biggest risk assumed would be that once sliding on the ground at crazy-breakneck speeds, he/she is unable to maintain directional stability and begins to roll or flip. FAR's and wingsuit landing w/o a parachute?

You wouldnt' have to build one.. you'd just have to smooth the bumps and inconsistencies out of one that already exists. Are you going to tell me that on this vast rock, there is not one slope that is long enough that can be worked into a nice smooth surface? Again, you are grasping. Again, you are focusing on the wrong aspect. People are arguing the physics in here (and that's not even the topic of the thread btw). Edited for respect My Karma ran over my Dogma!!! -
FAR's and wingsuit landing w/o a parachute?
goose491 replied to linestretch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Someone made a reference to speed skiiers and the amount of effort and work that goes into snow preperation and the building of the slope itself. You are grasping... the hill does not have to be bumby... nor of varying pitch. Jean-Albert did it. It's called the "Mountain Swoop"... Check it out There you go again. I'm pretty sure Jeb's going to make sure the pitch is constant... and that most of the "bumps" are smoothed out. The "slope" that he will land on... well that can be built to his specific dimentions... it's truly not an issue. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!! -

Yeah, like I said, childish but fun. My buddy'll mention me the next time he sees her outside work (like always) and whether she remembers me or not, he'll let her know the skinny. I haven't seen him in a while (I knew he worked the mountain but had no idea where... or what his phone number was... or where he lived anymore.) So now that we've linked up anew, I'll be spendin some time at staff parties and whatnot... we'll see. At this point, the only reason I'll have him "put in a good word" for me is so that I can update this thread. -

Sorry, as much as I would love to, I do have my own rabid pack of lesbian wild-ones I owe favours to. At least when they attack, I'm "in" and I've got a shot at possibly carving her out of the pack from time to time Woa... ok, too hot for Monday morning. p.s. BUMP! ... Lesbian lol. Or so it would seem! Went riding again on Saturday with some friends. I wanted to go in to my Pizza joint at the end of the day (Gee I wonder why lol). We ended up going to the Indian Motorcycle Bar and Grill just across the way for some beers... And my buddy works the Bar there. So I spot him when he comes in to start his shift. I hadn't seen him in a while and went to say hello. We chat it up a bit and then I decide to get some backgroud dirt. I ask him if he knows the staff of the Pizza place... does he know Annick? The gal with the tats? "Yeah I know who you're talking about" "What is she like?" I ask. "A Lesbian!!!" he anwsers... "Damn!" I say "Come on! You've got to be sh*ttin' me!" But he didn't know for sure, it was just the impression he got because of the tats and the piercing. Says he only met her once but he's in good with a bunch of her friends. He's going to do the preliminary for me. See if she remembered me... would she mind if I called her. lol. It's a little childish I know. But I'm having fun with it. I should have writen him a note for him to give her.... you know? Bwahahaa! My Karma ran over my Dogma!!! -
FAR's and wingsuit landing w/o a parachute?

I guess (and this is not news) our daring wingsuit pilot will just have to keep on the ball then. "Ah" ? Bill, the thing that will tear your aorta away from your heart is the FORCE. f = ma Which is equal to Mass times Acceleration If I jump off a building with an ant... he'll make it... I won't. That Jet has quite a bit more mass. And the acceleraion values are comparible. Look at my comarisons. You say if the pilot is not on the ball you could see a decent rate as great as 15mph. I was using 18mph as the best a wing suit pilot could expect to maintain. So the jets worse, and the human bodies best decent rates are comparible. However: 1)That Jet still weighs over five hundred times more than the man. (more mass) 2)The man is still landing on a slope, a privilege the Jet does not have. (vectored forces) 3)Two Feet of compression to the Jet still translates to only 0.75inches to the man. (silly comparison) My Karma ran over my Dogma!!! -
Hey, cops got it rough? hehe. Alright I'll play. But there's a line... and it looks as though it was crossed deep enough to require passports and return tickets. At best, it's 'understandable' that you are uncomfortable... but we chose our law enforcement officers hoping that they do not lash out or mistreat our civilians because of said discomfort. They are expected to deal with us (innocent or guilty) humanely at least. So what is your excuse for the other allegations?... You know, the ones that took place AFTER 'those men' were in a cell? No phone call, No insulin, No looking outside! Sorry, but by that time, we are all well aware that the captives pose no threat and the cops are "comfortable". Sh*T these guys were physically threatenned! "If you look out that window again I'll crack your....." Though I know it has something to do with making the officer feel "comfortable"... I think it's more a "Comfortable with my lack of manhood" type of situation. Bwahaa! I'm gonna make a "send this to ten of your friends" email virus out of this. Fucking power-hungries My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

A wonderful comparison. Except that an MD-80 series jet weighs sixty-one and a half thousand pouds empty. They have an average Maximum Landing Weight of 131 thousand pounds. So when you see one touching down, you can assume it weighs somwhere in between those two figures. Your forward speed during descent to land an MD-80 series is something along the lines of 250 knots. Your descent rate is 17 to 6 miles per hour, flared out to 4.5 - 2.3 miles per hour at the runway threshold. Your average man weighs 188lbs. He will never have a forward speed of 250knots... what are we saying? About 120 at best? What are the slowest *maintained* descent rates we've seen? 18-30 miles per hour-ish? So admitedly, your man is coming down 4 times faster then the jet is at touchdown... So we can forget the "higher sink rates" presented in your comparison. More importantly, he is also weighing in well under five hundredths the weight of the jet... AND landing on a slope. [Silly Comparison] Go ahead and use those ribs as shock absorbers. I'm thinking they almost scale my friend. Because those planes are some thirty feet tall. The shocks compress some 2 feet (as per you)... that's 6%... translate that to the human male and give him an average height (thusly 'thickness' from chest to back) of a foot. 6% of that is three quarters of an inch. I think I was compressed more than than that the last time I got a bear-hug. [End Silly Comparison] My Karma ran over my Dogma!!! -

Jason, you're a gentleman and a scholar for the amount of consideration you have already given this matter. At least go with what your collegues are telling you. That sounds good to me. If you can make use of the rig in the interim, then I truly don't see ANY reason why you should not do it though. I'm putting myself in that dudes shoes right now and boy am I ever exstatic to see my baby when I come out... and then to hear she's been put to good use getting some flight time while I could not? Awesome. Amen to that!... well not just when life is in danger... You see? gentleman and a scholar Buy the rig dude... Buy it and Jump it tons! Nick My Karma ran over my Dogma!!! -

Nor is it a reason to get upset. This is religious battle for ya. All are arguing the same points. Firstly, narrow it down to the "New Testament" instead of "Bible"... and it is still very presumptuous of you to declare that the "golden rule"... I could just as easily say the "Golden Rule" of the New Covenant is simply: "Love". "Do unto others" is a guideline in the *new* covenant. It tells us what is expected of us to live properly in the balance of good and bad. The old covenant, from the old testament, told us "An eye for an eye"... Now that sounds like Karma to me. But you are right. "Do unto others" is not Karma. But if you say unto a child "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" and much like a child, their response is: "Why?", what will your answer be? If it is a just, sound, Christian answer... it is Karma that you are explaining to the child. It is the law of conservation of energy at hand. There is only so much of it, it cannot be created nor destroyed. But it can be influenced and converted... There is only one love, you may have heard a wise man say. We are all connected so pay it forward. Karma, "deals" with noone. It just is... like gravity. We must learn to "deal" with it. It is a law of physics not yet discovered. And as my post said, I didn't get in before the original post was deleted... got the impression from other posts that this MIGHT be the case. Reference to the fact that you used to be in law enforcement reinforced the possibility. I make no judgements either way but realised my opinion (and that's what was asked of me) would be different depending... so I provided you both opinions. Off my nuts! lol So, buy the rig dude! You have nothing to do with him losing it so it's not like adding insult to injury. Nothing to worry about. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!! -

Sheep??! What a laugh! Would you say that Newton's third law of motion is also a law for sheep? For the slaves? Would you tell the Walter B. Cannons of the world today that they are 'passive' for subscribing to the concepts of Homeostasis? That they are Vanquished? Karma is a law of balance. One of the few things we can count on to occur naturally, everywhere. It has nothing to do with the status quo, has nothing to do with slavery or the vanquished. Anyone who says Karma does not exist is misinformed... or misinformed. You may not like the terminology... you may call it something else if you like. But all cultures have known since humans were capable of knowledge... that what goes around comes around to some degree. To the original poster: You've done nothing wrong in acquiring that rig so you could expect no bad Karma. What goes around comes around but the "Law" of Karma is not specific like that. Karma does not state that if you cut someone off on the freeway on your way into the office, that you will be cut off on the way home same day. Karma is simply... Homeostasis for the soul... Ying-Yang for ya Juju. It says that if you are a bad person, your quality of life will suffer for it. And that if you are a good person, that your quality of life will benefit from it. I started it. It seeeeemed funny. But I was not satisfied and had to run off and get me some sex. “My Mama says that alligators are ornery because they got all them teeth and no toothbrush.” -waterboy My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

No, you could actually say that we are more sexual. To begin with, it's said that the average "adrenaline junkie" has an above-average Abdullah Oblongata... that's arguable at best. If true, what it means simply put, is that it takes more "Happy Stimulus" to make us "Happy". In my previous post, I explained that when a large amount of Dopemine is received by the brain, the brain actually physically changes. It creates more receptors for the juice. I don't need to tell anyone on here that with each and every skydive, this is taking place. With more receptors than the average whuffo, it takes more Dopemine to feel "satisfaction" Guess what. It's Dopemine that makes you "satisfied" after sex too! And though you are still releasing the same tired amount with each intercourse, after umteen skydives, it admittedly takes much more dopemine to make you... "satisfied" with sex. To me, there is only one logical conclusion to this... MORE SEX PLEASE My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
-
Skydivers are more apt to jump out of "perfectly good airplanes" then whuffos are. correct?... or egotistical? Hehe. What makes us what to huck ourselves out of airplanes? Why I'd say Adrenaline and Dopemine have something to do with it. Iteresting thing about the Dope... Once you're hooked, you always want more... and hey... read below! Adrenaline: Most of us are familiar with adrenaline; it causes that "pumped-up" feeling that you get from a rollercoaster ride, or before a game and after a victory. An adrenaline rush simply creates a good feeling. There is a term called "adrenaline junkies" applied to people who strive for an adrenaline rush. Adrenaline is also released when a person has sex or practices self-sex, which can cause one to become an "adrenaline junkie" as well. Dopamine: This is a chemical your body uses to make you feel satisfied. There are many different types of dopamine. Your brain releases this chemical after you eat, or drink, or have sex. This chemical is also heightened with practice of self-sex. The problem with this chemical is that, when there are excessive amounts of dopamine, your brain must change its physiology in order to accommodate the high levels. Dopamine collects within the synapses in your brain and generates the creation of more receptors. Therefore, once your brain adapts, you require even higher levels of dopamine to get the same feeling you used to get. And invariably, when your brain cannot produce enough dopamine for the added receptors, you feel even less satisfied. This leads to graduating to harder substances or heightened stimulation to get the same effect. Science has shown that it is possible to recover from these alterations in the brain, but it takes quite some time. Yeah. We are more Sexual. We kill more kittens before breakfast, then most whuffos do in an entire day! lol My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

John, "Innocent until proven guilty" means the burden of proof is on them... to prove that you commited the crime. Once that is satisfied, you are a criminal. Your rights change. To the original poster, I missed the post before it was deleted. If I get the tone right. My vote is BUY THE RIG! it's cheap gear, if you don't buy it, another skydiver will... if another skydiver don't buy it... some whuffo will. You'd be doing the incarcerated jumper a service by jumping it and maintaining it and returning it to him at a decent price when he can use it again. However, judging by a few of the shorter responses, I get the feeling you may have played a small role in getting said "drug dealer" into the position he is in today. If that were the case and I were you, I wouldn't touch that rig with a 15 foot pole... and I would know that instinctively... without a DZ.com poll. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!! -

-Jumping! -Jumping with old friends! -Jumping with new friends! Just like that. This winter was the first year I've stayed in touch with many of my fellow jumpers. I've gotten closer to a handful of them over this off-season than I could have during many actual jumping seasons. I look forward to jumping with these new-found, solid friends more than I've ever looked forward to jumping before. Also... I want to mile-high this year. lol. I know it's doable... seen video So ladies?... any volunteers? haha! My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
