Not to mention that from Shah's digital footprint he is a sexual harassment suit waiting to happen. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Just wanted to point out that I have found something that I agree w/ Shah about. It's that whole "fool me once..." thing. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Supreme Court limits Wal-Mart sex bias case

Thank you, that's what I would guess but I wasn't sure. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
So, this wasn't your first time losing a shoe? "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Hmmm, I'm not an expert but I don't know of any life insurance policies written with exclusions like that? I do know some that have excluded activities (like skydiving) or exclusions for suicide but none with exlusions for some sort of contributory negligence (maybe too strong a word) on the part of the deceased. You die, and it wasn't one of the excluded activities, they pay out. At least that is how I understand and have seen it work. Perhaps you have an example of what you are talking about? Also, are you American? I have seen some claims here and there from Canadians about medical insurance not paying out under certain conditions (like misuse of equipment) that seem sort of strange to me. I confess I have no idea how insurance works in other countries. I checked your profile but it didn't list it. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

"Irreducibly coplex" was always just such a weak God of the Gaps theory from the get go. Philosophically to state that there is not other explanation than that the eye was designed would mean that humans were capable of imagining (and then some way verifiably testing) every single possible way the eye could come into being. Pretty much goes for intelligent design as a whole--weak philosophically to the point of not being worthy of debate. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Supreme Court limits Wal-Mart sex bias case

What that means is that there was nothing in common amongst all the women plaintiffs that indicates a corporate bias against women in general, and therefore it does not fit the requirements for a class-action suit. The women are still free to pursue their cases individually. I am not sure on this point, but does it actually mean the women must pursue cases individually? Or might some class still be put together that meets the definition of commonality of claims by having a slightly more restrictive class than "women?" What might such a class entail? I understand that practically that puts a lawsuit back to square one. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
when it comes to insurance claims, insurance companies will certainly be able to do something about it... What? I'm unsure what you are claiming? "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Airchway Skydiving Sued

This upsets me... I am more than willing to have someone watch and help with an I&R for no extra fees, and I may even buy pizza for them. Most jumpers don't give a flying f HOW the gear works, they just want you to do it for them. Going after the dz... still doesn't seem right in my eyes. I don't care if it was dz gear, or if the rigger owned half the dz, it was a rigging error, not a dz error. Generally I'm on your side but just to play devil's advocate (i.e. lawyer): The DZ selected a rigger, employed the rigger, and paid the rigger. What if (Hypothetical but could come out in discovery) the rigger had a history of rigging errors that the DZ knew about and they continued to employ him anyway? If may be easier to take depositions and discover some of that stuff if the DZ is named in the original suit. Practically it is probably just a matter of naming everybody and trying to get settlements from the deepest pockets. Our legal system is an ugly beast. Gatorade is good for prolonged exercise. Skymama, if your son is playing 3 games in a day or even a single 60+ minute game in warmer weather then it is an appropriate drink and will benefit him. Even better is the endurance version G2--same amount of sugar/calories but more electrolytes. For general drinking it is not healthy and tastes (IMHO) disgusting but it goes down great after a long, hot run. We drink milk, water, and just some lightly sweetened tea at my house (and I also drink black coffee). "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -

City: Keep parked pickup trucks out of sight overnight
Southern_Man replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
Not from my limited experience. Almost bought a house in a subdivision on a pond. Started asking about parking an RV and was told a story of a guy in the neighborhood that drove a rig and got in trouble with the HOA even though he parked just the truck, not the trailer, in his own driveway. He ended up having to park it at a storage place. F that. I'm in a neighborhood with no HOA. I could walk around my front yard naked and the only thing my neigbors could legally do is call the cops. -
Never fallen asleep during a haircut. Of course I cut my own hair so that would be bad but I never fell asleep back when I used to go to a barber/hairdresser either. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Thanks for all the recommendations, some I had already seen, some were in my queue and some I've added at your suggestion. Unfortunately some of the ones I most wanted to see are not available on Netflix streaming, I may have to add the delivery option, not sure. When We Were Kings is great As was the Everest one about Conrad Anker Keep them coming. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

I'm looking for good documentaries to watch. I found a thread but only for adventure sports sort of biographies. I am interested in exploration, food (Food, Inc sort of things), politics, history, sports, a pretty wide gamut. Let me hear your favorites. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

I'm sure it differs by state but when I owned in a community that had restrictive covenants I was basically told by a lawyer friend that they were all but unenforceable. I never had reason to test that and our homeowners association didn't seem very intent on enforcing anything in any case so I don't know how true that is. That was in North Carolina. Best explanation I can find (Not from OED): Like cannibal, canoe is a word of Caribbean origin. In the language of the local Carib people it was canaoua, and it passed via Arawakan into Spanish (recorded by Christopher Columbus) as canoa. That was the form in which it first came into English; modern canoe is due to the influence of French canoe. Originally, the word was used for referring to any simple boat used by ‘primitive’ tribes; it was not until the late 18th century that a more settled idea of what we would today recognize as a canoe began to emerge. But it does establish the fact (which supposed atheists seem to withdraw from) that their beliefs are based on a presupposition just like the man of faith in God. (which influences their thinking going forward.) You seem to think that but I don't think that it is necessarily true. I honestly spend just about zero time thinking about the origin of the universe. Although I have a basic understanding of the Big Bang Theory I don't have any sort of in-depth knowledge of how well supported it is or isn't although I am vaguesly aware that a universe that is accelerating its expansion is sort of a problem for that theory. I also understand that there are observational limits on how far back we can go or even speculate and prior to the point where general relativity breaks down even the scientists concede that we don't really know what preceeded that. We don't know if it was nothingness (as you seem to posit) or something else. I honestly don't spend a lot of time thinking about it because it doesn't effect my life at all. I do like reading about some parts of natural science but astrophysics has never been a big part of that. Frankly what I think you are missing is that your claim that the universe is designed is a base assertion. You see design and elegance, I see randomness. I'm not 100% sure why its all here or where it came from except to say that what we see is what we got. Just because this is the world we ended up with doesn't mean that it was inevitable or designed--it just is what it is. Based on my profession that I don't know I'm guessing you might label me an agnostic. I woud call myself an atheist but I'm not sure the label is all that important to me. I just prefer to say I don't believe in God because I don't see any evidence. I don't spend a lot of time thinking about it or pondering it for the same reason I don't think a lot about cosmology, it just has no influence on my day to day life. (I do spend a lot of time thinking about religious history and the history of religious thought because I find that fascinating but that is quite different from thinking about God). Anyway claiming that the universe has design because a designer God designed it is really circular logic. Prime unmoved mover and all of that I know but it becomes a bit of a rhetorical tautology.
