How often do you believe the federal government?
Southern_Man replied to jimbrown's topic in Speakers Corner
The campground pays to have and provide wi-fi. If you're staying just outside the campground, but helping yourself to their spill-over wi-fi, knowing that their wi-fi is a service/product for which they expect to be paid, it's possibly theft of services; and even if technically it's not, it's unethical. Morally, I think you should voluntarily pay them a pro-rata amount for the use of their wi-fi. I think you've got "living free" confused with "living for free". Cool! Who do you recognize? Dogs don't talk. Except for Brian Griffin, but he's a special exception. Carry on, Don Quixote. It's Ok Andy, Lak Jocassee is a state park, so instead of actually living for free he is actually living off of the taxes of other people. Wonder if they have a bridge at that lake? Ahlstrom is an excellent historian and this is certainly the best and most widely read survey of American Religious History. However, for more specifically colonial puritan stuff I recommend you look at Perry Miller. You could also look at Edmund Morgan or Harry Stout for slighly more recent historians. I believe Stout is an evangelical and Miller and Morgan are both atheists but all of them are excellen historians of the time period. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -

If you lived 500 years ago your beliefs would be different. Your own words show that. You base your beliefs on a majority. jaybird18c must be either a Roman Catholic or an Orthodox believer, since those folks make up the "vast majority of scholarly folks throughout history" in studying, translating, interpreting, and elucidating what the Bible means. Do you accept the canonicity of the story of the woman caught in Adultery in John? (7:53-8:7, or thereabouts?) Do you accept the canonicity of the longer ending of Mark's Gospel? "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -

Well, you said (paraphrasing) the Salem Witch Trials were getting too much attention as an example of Christians doing the wrong thing, since only 20 people were killed. Perhaps the witch trials in Europe should get more attention as an example, since there were many, many times the number of people killed. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -

Witchhunts in early modern Europe killed thousands--I've seen estimates as low as 20,000 and as high as 250,000. Most are in the 50-100,000 range. Europeans didn't stop killing witches because they suddenly got more moral, they stopped killing them because they stopped believing in the mythical powers that witches supposedly had. Best: Tough category as I've been to a lot of them. My first Dead show. Also notable: the Ramones, Rollilng Stones. Underrated: Brian Adams, he put on a really, really good show. Worst: Dylan in 1988. His voice was so awful I couldn't stand it. Didn't help that the acoustics in the Arena were really bad. Runner-up: ZZ Topp. Really unimaginative, might as well have stayed at home and listened to their disc. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

All this talk really makes me wonder how many DZs are actually doing this? It is apparently not all of them, even though they have pledged to do it. My home DZ does have a separate landing area of high performance landings, that's the only one I can speak to. Edited to add: I realize this is only a USPA standard, I don't know what standards/expectations are other places. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

\ There's a very high profile tv producer who shares my name. Plus a lawyer in Jackson, MS--he shares first, middle initial, and last with me. Then there is my uncle, who I'm named after. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

It's just the old joke: How do you know when a politician is lying? His lips are moving. *not intended to be a factual statement. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
Not sure how this is a google problem, the information about these people is dispersed on many, many different websites that google has no control over. Google is just an aggregator and if they didn't do it I'm sure some other search engine would. I suppose Google could enable scripting that would allow people to opt out, but then the other people I share my name with probably wouldn't like that so much. Service Bulletins and Equipment Bannings
Southern_Man replied to tetra316's topic in Gear and Rigging
Your argument would presume that a mfg cannot make any changes to their manual/instructions/whatever after the original manual. That is nonsense. The SBs issued by the mfg specifically include previously made equipment. You don't seriously buy into the argument do you? I'm not sure what I think now. But a very well respected DZO does. Again it's just strictly about following the letter of the law and what you can be held legally liable on. I'm not sure that is a logical argument because I do not think that the regulatory power of the FAA over riggers is based on any sort of contract between the rig maker and the end user. The date of purchase is not relevant to what the rigger can do with his ticket. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -

Just a general question, has any rigger had any action taken against him/her for not packing in accordance with a SB/manufacturer's instructions? "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
They do specifically state "BASE jumping is not safe,..." But then preceded to sugar coat it. Bah, looks almost exactly like the Safety FAQs on a lot of different drop zone web sites. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

http://www.cnn.com/2011/CRIME/04/19/wikileaks.suspect/index.html?hpt=T2 Manning moving to Leavenworth. Also of note, prosecution has notified defense that it does not intend to seek the death penalty for Manning. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

What are the specifics of correctly packing a Cobalt? I ask this as a sometimes packer who hasn't encountered one yet. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

99% of the music I listen to is recorded live (jam bands), so it is a difficult question. I'm gonna stick w/ commercially released and go with one that I listened to a lot growing up Cheap Trick--Live at Budakon. Frampton Comes Alive would be second. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Really? Where? AFAIK Marion Jones was sent to prison for 6 months for perjury about performance enhancing drugs in the same BALCO investigation that led to the Bonds charges. I believe her ex-boyfriend, Tim Montgomery, went to jail on some bad check/fraud/embezzlement charges which may have had something to do with drugs but I can't remember the details.
