Obama Administration Soft on Illegal Immigration
Southern_Man replied to NewGuy2005's topic in Speakers Corner
Not only is he kicking them out, the economy is so crappy that some are leaving voluntarily. Maybe that was Obama's plan for the economy--make it so crappy all the illegals would leave. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
He lowered payroll taxes. This is a lower tax on everybody with earned income, which includes most of the middle and lower classes. I do not think this was a particularly fiscally responsible thing to do but he did lower taxes for lower and middle class workers. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

All taxes cause tax avoidance strategies. I remember when I was a chld my parents would purchase quite a few cartons of cigarettes for my grandfather prior to going to visit him, since we lived in a state with low tobacco taxes and he lived in a state with higher ones. Of course we even see this on the forums, where Europeans subject to VAT tax will arrange a trip to the states to pick up a rig or have a friend bring it into the country as personal property. Supossedly one of the benefits of deal w/ Karnage Krew (before that whole situation blew up) was that he would list a much lower value on the invoice, leading to lower tax liability for his customers. The prices for purchasing rental properties and for renting those properties would readjust to reflect the removal of the government subsidy. It would be a pretty big short term adjustment. In the long run it would make little impact as prices and values would just come into equilibrium again (or more accurately would pendulum around the equilibrium). Yeah, because oil wells are so attractive... "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

I'd be interested if we could know what this does for Taft's business over the next month or so. Have to guess the publicity would help generate interest. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Agreed, these are both good drop zones! Orange is my home but I've jumped at West Point and look forward to jumping in Dinwiddie soon. You can't go wrong w/ either one. I would jump at West Point more except where I live, I basically have to drive right past Orange and continue driving another 2 hours or so. Good crew, fun, good training. You could also incorporate it into a cartoon.... Seriously, when are you jumping again, I want more drawings. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -

I'm in my 40s too. I guess my relationship w/ my parents is different (not better or worse, just different). I have a good relationship w/ them but I didn't really seek or expect their approval over my fun time (nor their disapproval). I think if they had expressed disapproval I would have just stopped talking about skydiving with them. My folks are okay with it, they have done white water rafting and my father was a licensed pilot (for gliders as well) and I have one a bunch of adventure sports previously. I did sit down with them shortly after I started and had a long talk about the waiver and not suing anybody if something happened to me. Never any guarantees but I think they would respect my wishes on that front. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -

Yup any takers? Spot opposite you should be one of the raffle prizes (must be on site to win). "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
At my DZ packing is uaually taught on a weekday. The riggers and packers are way to busy on a weekend to be teaching somebody. (taking time off work is a cost you may have to endure as well) People who rent gear are able to pack for themselves at my DZ, but a packer has to do it before a student can jump it or before it goes back on the shelf (i.e. we would not allow the next renter to jump your pack job). "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
-
Yes, we have had a couple of packers learn to jump at my DZ, they were already working on the floor before first jump course. If you showed up to your first jump course and said you wanted to pack your own before you jumped, they would tell you no (or maybe go learn to pack and take the first jump course after you already know how). Those taxes are returned in the form of benefits. It seems that everyone comes out ahead on the MC side (until it breaks) and the lower income rungs come out well ahead on SS. While politicians talk about the Social Security and Medicare as discrete pots, they really are not. There is just one big pot of money that goes into the government, and all the spending comes out of that (and borrowing, way, way too much borrowing). Money is fungible and the poor also pay federal taxes. Also, I'd be hesitant about the poor or lower income folks generally coming out better than wealthier folks. The benefit tables are sort of tilted in their direction which leads many people to think they come out ahead. Lifespan, however, is significantly correlated with wealth and in terms of lifetime benefits the better off actually collect more (as a percentage of what was put in). This has been the subject of a lot of academic papers and, for example, African American males despite earning lower average wages, do particularly poorly in terms of receiving those valueable benefits because they have a high mortality rate. Hi Jerry, Yes, that is a very clear answer. Remember, this is just my opinion. Forever in this sport parachute thingy of ours we have had 'whoever' pack mains; and without any rigger being nearby. The FAA says that it has to be a rigger or the person who will be jumping the canopy; or under 'direct' supervision of a rigger. Whatever in the actual H*** that 'direct' supervision of a rigger really means. And, please no comments about this, I've read this argument way too much. What I would propose, and I have, is that the PIA begin the process of getting a rule change so that anyone, and I mean anyone, can pack a non-certificated parachute. IMO this is what is actually going on all over the US of A. I am not talking about reserves here and I would prefer that we not get distracted into that arena; that is a different can of worms. Does this explain my thinking? JerryBaumchen "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Why does only income tax count as skin in the game? People who don't pay income tax commonly pay Social Security and Medicare taxes, as well as a variety of federal taxes on items like gas. Honestly just about everybody pays some sort of federal tax, even if indirectly. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

IMO the system in the USA is simply not working. Jerry, In your opinion what is not working about the USA system? "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Alabama loses workers as immagration law passes

Forced contributions to community resources are not very capitalistic. Why do you hate capitalism so much? "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -

If you somehow can't understand that these are exactly the same thing then I can't really help you. And if you can't understand that all the people sitting on there ass collecting unemployment are an un-utilized labor force, then I can't help you. That's a good argument for eliminating unemployment insurance and the minimum wage. That would be a capitalist solution instead of throwing out all the competition. I am not upset at anything. I am merely pointing out that limiting the supply of available labor is not an example of capitalism. There may be other worthwhile and relevant social goals which make such policies worthwhile. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -

No exactly capitalism. Immigration laws are a artificial market entry barrier which raises the price of labor by limiting competition. Not saying that is right or wrong but it is definitely not pure capitalism. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
What is the cutoff for "old dudes?" Anyway, if you are not enjoying the process then it is not worth it to date. I've never had to go through hell to avoid being single. Being single isn't bad, being in a good relationship is good too. The journey between those states is fun and interesting. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
