My very unscientific impressions: Skydiving helps a guy date a wuffo girl--at least initially they are impressed by the excitement and skills. This may later be counter-balanced by him wanting to spend every weekend at the DZ and having no money. Skydiving is a net negative for a woman in trying to date a wuffo guy. They are better off not mentioning it for some time. No guy wants to date a chick w/ bigger balls than he has. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Why does our government run (and pay for) primary elections? These are nominating contests run at the behest of and for the benefit of private political parties. I see no reason that these parties should be able to use the resources of the state for their own benefit (also has the side benefit of massively building brand identification)? I'd prefer private political parties either run their own nominating processes (in whatever way they chose) or at the very least were responsible to reimburse the state for all costs associated with running a primary. B-License Canopy Control Proficency Card
Southern_Man replied to theonlyski's topic in Safety and Training
I would not. I got my B license a little over a year ago. This past spring I took a canopy control course. As part of that (and I assume most basic canopy control courses are this way, though I don't know) we completed all the drills on the canopy proficiency card. Because it was not a license requirement at the time, the only proof I have of completing those skills is my logbook. Perhaps my S&TA would sign off on the proficiency card on that basis, maybe he wouldn't. At least I haven't moved of changed home DZs though. Just one of many possible complications. I do support continued canopy instruction for all license holders, I just don't see this sort of retroactive requirement as being practically problematic. So Tell Me Again About "Peaceful" Protests
Southern_Man replied to Kennedy's topic in Speakers Corner
At one of the Occupy protests her in VA the other night, apparently one of the protestors stripped down when they tried to arrest her...I think this is a protest style we should all embrace and encourage. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
Highly dependent on where you live/ride. Not legal or acceptable where I live. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Preflight parachutte check: visual reference?

Are you sure that you are not talking about the main loop? I don't think that any wear on the reserve loop is acceptable. Section 4 Category C of the SIM says: (2) reserve closing loop worn no more than ten percent "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
I'll be having whatever they are serving on the dropzone on Thursday, I believe Turkey is on the menu! "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Why? At my age, I don't think I'd want a man in his 80's either! Hmmm....I don't think you are as good at estate planning as most women "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

For me it was when I thought "what's the worst that could happen by sitting by the open door?" I realized that I could fall out and that was sort of the point anyway. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

What canopy has the most fatalities?
Southern_Man replied to cocheese's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Reported Injuries? Maybe... fatalities? I HIGHLY doubt that a T-10 has a higher fatality rate than Velo's. All depends how you count them. Rate if different than a straight count. Also, there were probably quite a few no-pull or low pull fatalaties under T-10s. Not sure that is relevant to the question but those could be counted depending on how the question is framed. Just more corporate welfare for the military industrial complex. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Ex-Convicts Find It Hard To Vote, But Easy To Get Guns

Mid-Atlantic Thanksgiving jumping
Southern_Man replied to Southern_Man's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Yeah, I live in Harrisonburg and I used to live in Johnston County before I moved here. This sounds like a good option. Do they have camping there? I think they didn't when I asked a little while ago. Are there camping options nearby? "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
More male skydivers then women?

Mid-Atlantic Thanksgiving jumping
Southern_Man replied to Southern_Man's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I am looking for somewhere in the Mid-Atlantic to jump over thanksgiving weekend--anybody open Friday-Sunday or Thursday-Sunday? Any special events going on? I am for somewhere within driving distance of VA. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
Witnessed an AAD save and it got me thinking...

Would be interested to know if the jumper tried to pull with the other hand or not. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
Well, looking at da Vinci's famous painting "The Last Supper" (see link), there doesn't seem to be any meat on the table. Perhaps Jesus was a vegetarian. Or maybe it was painted during the appetizer course of the meal, and the meat came later. They do seem to be drinking wine! http://www.paintinghere.com/UploadPic/Leonardo_da_Vinci/big/original%20picture%20of%20the%20last%20supper.jpg There is fish on the table--probably a reflection of the Catholic practice of going without meat during Lent. I've not been screamed at by a date. Somehow I think it is not the conversation topic which is inducing that reaction. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

I was in the area visiting family and stopped by to jump on a Sunday. Had a good DZ orientation. Jumped on 3 loads with people ranging in experience level from 30 jumps to thousands. Very friendly people who didn't mind taking a stranger along for some fun. Only negative was that there was not organizing but that was due to this being the weekend of Nationals. Very impressed by my experience here and suspect I will be back (especially during the winter). They do fit 23 people on their Otter which is more than I am used to.

I'm also a stickler for the rules. I would not jump w/ a guy like that. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Let's not all derail Wendy's thread with the usual squabbling. It is an interesting philosophical question. I think your analogy to spades is pretty accurate--it just defines this particular playing field and the rules of our game. There are other ways those same 52 cards can be put to use (i.e. other ways to effectively and humanely govern ourselves). With that said, there are huge differences in what the Constitution meant when it was written and what it means today--look at voting rights for an obvious example--no longer based on 3/5 of a person for "persons not free" and nearly universal sufferage today.
