Lead poisoning killing California condors
Southern_Man replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
I don't know much about ammunition. One thing I noted, in a quick google search, is that apparently California still allows the use of lead in fishing sinkers and shot. I have personally switched to lead free in all applications. There are good alternatives and the toxicity of lead really is not disputable. (I am not saying that condors are being poisoned by lead fishing tackle, although it is one possibility, just that responsible sportsmen shouldn't need laws and regulations to do the right thing.) If you had or borrowed for a few jumps an altimeter with a datalogger then you could at least know what your current fall rate is. In my opinion it is the best thing about having an audible altimeter for me. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

I see the artistic merit and good storytelling in this one, but honestly I have to say I did not enjoy it. It was too incredibly painful to watch. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

If the girl wants sex during the game then she automatically qualifies as being bad in bed even if she still lets you watch it? Doggie style and you can both watch the game. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Rupert Murdoch Bought Off the Entire US Supreme Court

Sure hope they are willing to apply that to other decisions (and wish that lower courts would consistently adopt that reasoning). "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
Go to your DZ and ask for help from one of the riggers or experienced packers. Pay them for their time. They will be happy to help you. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

That's very odd. I've only ever seen people pull back the layers to check. Although I did note that my local store has a full trashbag beside the corn for people to shuck into. I have no idea why somebody would shuck there instead of taking it home and shucking when ready to cook. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

What kind of influence the tandems have on skydiving as a sport?

As far as jump progression, here are some good two way dive drills which are structure to help you learn: http://targetsky1.demon.co.uk/info/2ways.pdf "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
Baseball's Roger Clemens acquitted of all charges
Southern_Man replied to wayneflorida's topic in The Bonfire
A1: doping may or may not be illegal, depending on how it is done. My understanding is that some or most of Roger Clemens doping was done without a prescription, so it would be illegal. A2: Whether it is legal or not I don't think Congress should have anything to do with it. Other people may have other opinions. Their legal theory for holding hearings was as oversight of baseball's antitrust exemption. I think that is BS but congress did not ask my opinion. A3: USADA is the US Anti-Doping Agency. They are an affiliate of the World Anti-doping Agency, just as other countries have their own anti-doping authority. They are not a government agency but are the testing agency for Olympic sports here in the USA. I do not fully understand all of the jurisdiction issues on how all of these agencies cooperate across borders but they all subscribe to the same code, etc. I do not believe USADA can strip Lance of his titles, I believe that decision would be up to Amaury Sport Organisation, which owns the Tour De France but I could be wrong on some of the technicalities. It is not a race to learn. Some people may learn faster than you. Some people may learn slower than you. As long as you are safe and enjoying yourself that is what is important. This is a great, fun hobby, don't let self-criticism take away the pure unadulterated joy. (trust me, I am self-critical too). Also, you are almost to your B license, that's great! At some DZs that may be optional. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Baseball's Roger Clemens acquitted of all charges
Southern_Man replied to wayneflorida's topic in The Bonfire
I'm fascinated by the entire process of doping and the investigations. It weaves together several things I am interested in (sports, particularly endurance sports; law; philosophy). There is no doubt in my mind that Clemens used performance enhancing drugs. The government's lack of ability to convict on perjury looks to me to support several related conclusions: 1. Perjury is a difficult charge to prove. Much more difficult to prove than doping. 2. Although there is a lot of hype about the winning percentage of federal prosecutors, it is clear to me that this is based on cherry-picking their cases and typically having the defense massively outgunned on resources. Clemens and Bonds (mostly) were not able to be convicted because they could afford as many resources as the government could. 3. People, including jurors, don't think the court is the proper place to regulate doping in sports. Although I did not follow ever minute of the trial and am making a few interpretations, it looks to me as though there was at least a bit of jury nullification involved. The government comes off looking like a bully. Juries don't like bullies. I think in general people don't think regulating doping in sports (which is after all, only entertainment for most people) is a wise or proper use of government resources. I'm interested to see some of these same dynamics at work in the Armstrong case as well, although that is before a sports panel only, as the government dismissed the Grand Jury and concluded the investigation. Nonetheless, Lance has a very powerful PR machine that paints USADA as an agency of the government who are unrelenting bullies misusing tax dollars. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
Around the world dive--turn 90 (dock), turn back to center (dock), turn 180 dock, back to center dock, 270 dock, center dock, 360. This works best w/ one person just laying base but you can alternate turns if you want to. Also there is the Headcorn progressive 2 way dive series: http://targetsky1.demon.co.uk/info/2ways.pdf "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Since much of a Churches income comes from contributions from their followers, and those followers are able to deduct it from their income, are you saying that all contributors to charities should lose that exemption? Or should it only be contributions they make to a Church and not the Salvation Army? Salvation Army is a church. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

If you are going to tax either churches or charities the bigger tax is usually not the income tax (after all, after deducting expenses as other businesses do I bet they have relatively small profits) but sales and property taxes. There would be a large amount of income going to state and local governments. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Texas highway to have the highest speed limit in the nation
Southern_Man replied to JohnRich's topic in The Bonfire
I heard it was because they'd lose their Federal highway money if they didn't post speed limits. I honestly don't know why the reimposed limits. When the federall mandated limit was 55, Montanas disliked it so much they set the price of a violation at $5. Best I can tell from Wikipedia the state abolished speed limited between 1995 and 1999, but reimposed them after a judge ruled that the "reasonable and prudent" rule was so vague as to be unenforceable. Back in 1959 when I joined there was a guy from Mexico, who could not speak any English, who joined as a path to US citizenship. Apparently, that is still one path available. JerryBaumchen PS) We also had a guy from New Mexico who would translate everything for the Mexican guy. Sure made basic training a hoot on occasion. The drill sergeants could not tell Who's On First. Yes, here is the official answer from the Military recruiting website: Do you accept for enlistment individuals who are not U.S. citizens? To be eligible for enlistment in the Army or Army Reserve, an individual must be an American citizen or lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence [10 United States Code, Section 3253(c), 8253(c)]. We cannot assist people to come to the United States or assist them in getting permanent resident status. We can work with people who already have permanent resident status or who can show they are in the process of receiving permanent resident status. Offices of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services can provide information concerning entry as a resident alien.
