Point Break did get me excited about skydiving. I feel a little silly admitting that, but it's true. *** it captured the thrills and fun and gave the non jumper a glimpse into skydiving and made them think... I gotta try that. of course the reality of skydiving is a tad different Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.

Weird News in the Neighborhood Follow AOL Real Estate on FacebookMillionaire faces jail for attacking intruder A millionaire in the UK faces life in prison for attacking a robber who held him and his family at knife point, a story by the Telegraph.co.uk said. Munir Hussain, 52, was found guilty of "inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent," for attacking Walid Salem, 56, one of three raiders who broke into his house and forced him, his wife and three children to lie on the floor with their hands behind their backs. At some point they were able to overtake Salem, and neighbors say they saw "several men" beating him with weapons including a cricket bat and a metal pole. Salem was left with injuries including a fractured skull and bruising on the brain. In another twist, Salem could be eligible for criminal injury compensation, even though he recovered to commit other crimes. *** WTF??!!!! so in the eyes of the law your supposed to quietly submit and hope they dont kill you and your family?? he should have killed that fucker... AND!! been given a medal... what the fuck is wrong with this world...? Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.

There are many posts on here I don't choose to respond to for various reasons; one of them being if I don't have anything nice to say, or type... well, you know the rest. But, what do I know... *** you obviously know more than most of us.... it seems that lately people (myself included) are getting a bit less tolerant and more prone to attacking someone for their postings - not sure if its the economic situation or what, but something seems to be putting people more on edge. the op deleted his post while I was writing my reply, what he had to say actually made sense. edited to fix typos and grammatical errors. Dude, I'm on Vicodin its to be expected! *** did you bring enough for the rest of the class?? -
I listed those examples to show you why I wouldnt let just anyone look at my rig, If they can do that to their own why would I trust them checking mine? And how do you know that stranger you have checking your pin has even packed his own rig in the last xx years? Alot of jumpers use packers far more than doing any packing themselves. maybe the name calling of anyone who disagreed with you brought to mind the "holy than thou attitude"? And this comment---> if however I do scrub against something that makes me question the integrity of my pack I will find someone that I know for a fact has the experience to judge what they are looking for I know my rig, aint nothing falling out without some heavy hits/contact everything is covered very well, my closing loop is tight enough that some packers complain about it, perhaps your rig is an older model and the bridle n stuff is more exposed? Listen... your obviously passionate about this subject, but self policing is quite easy - your trusting those experienced jumpers on that load to not hit you and kill/render you unconcious in freefall - and they are trusting you do avoid that as well, but you wont grant them the awareness to know when their rig might need an inspection? and for the record, no I wouldnt avoid a gear check to merely spite you, that would be silly shit beyond words. But like I said, only people I know and trust will check my rig. Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.

Man, I dont even know where to begin picking apart your observations in your post... your observation that everyone is experienced and "knows what they are looking for" -- dont count on it, I have caught an "experienced skydiver" with his rsl fixed to the big ring on the 3rings... stopped an "experienced diver" from turning on his AAD at 3k cuz he forgot to turn it on while on the ground (FXC or astra, dont recall which), seen an "experienced skydiver" with a ROL with a twisted legstrap (someone else caught it) caught an "experienced diver" with a misrouted cheststrap... I dont know how you load the plane but I have pretty much jumped ever kind available and am extremely carefull of how I move and do not rest against any surface - if however I do scrub against something that makes me question the integrity of my pack I will find someone that I know for a fact has the experience to judge what they are looking for. Unlike you, I do not automatically assume everyone on the load is competent to perform this simple task. your assertation that everyone on the load has the right to examine anyones gear is completely false - I decide who can and cannot touch mine. I dont see how you can judge people as "egomaniacs" because they wont let you play with their gear. With your holyer than thou attitude you wont be touching mine. Rear riser landing with brakes stowed - good idea or bad idea?
D22369 replied to mik's topic in Safety and Training
You may have 120 seconds before landing. You have gloves on and altimeter on your left wrist. Is restowing a real option? *** I have held one toggle in my teeth while using both hands to release a stuck toggle, it was pretty easy to do, restowing though... might be a bit tricky. not so sure a 4' drag chute would help in any way as the main would probably spin just the same - your body would have less spin speed I am sure, but the canopy might still be pointed at the ground and would it slow the decent? I am not sure it would make an appreciable difference. several points on the video - unless the TI's where that jump was made deploy at a lower altitude than here then the tandem pulled at 5000' - 5500' the cameraman waited 4-5 seconds (not the 10 he stated on the interview) before deploying his main so he was around 3500ish at the lowest when it became obvious that the main was screwed. He pulled his reserve on his back, not sure if there was an rsl involved but you can clearly see the reserve bridal and pilot chute in the video... not once did I see him check an altimeter. unless I missed something he had plenty of time to get stable and pull the reserve which would likely have resulted in a non-incident ... In my mind the only time an unstable reserve pull is acceptable is when humming through 1k or thereabouts. being as stable as time allows in my mind is a better option than a drag chute *however that said, it is an interesting idea and I am not sure if it would help or hinder Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... Only time I can think that the document would be scrutinized to the level to detect the forgery would be after a fatality and at that time being sued isnt an issue unless you loaned the rig to someone else and they bounced - then your probably in deep shit. The riggers logs would show when and where the IAR occured so the rigger would be off the hook unless it could be proved that he had knowledge that you were pencil packing it. Day Two: u-turns, slow turns, figures 8's & uphill starts :)
D22369 replied to Nataly's topic in The Bonfire
Woooohoooo!! sounds like your having a blast, good for you!! when you become a more proficient rider start incorporating front brakes into your sphere of knowledge, most of your potential braking power in an emergency situation is there (used correctly that is) using both front and back brakes on dry roads can get you a really short stopping distance but takes practice, keep going!
