  1. when you have rules, regulations and licenses to do any activity it is no longer 'fringe' ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  2. apparently to self absorbed to even discuss.... yeesh...get over whatever offense you took. lots of live play techniques simply will not work in the virtual world.... and may virtual techniques do not transfer the other way... the point was. everything your avatar does is BECAUSE you tell it to, there are no involuntary tells in VR. So my example (me looking at my cards, not to check my hand, but to see how you react to me taking a second, third or even 50th look at my cards) doesnt work in VR because you have to consciously decide to 'do anything' to 'give away' information. There is an inherent 'filter, all information has to pass through that filter before it reaches you. in the real world very few people have that kind of deliberate control, so those who are astute observers can pick up alot, and can even 'force a tell' the point in me 'not telling you my name' is only so that you wouldnt be 'pre warned' that i (as an opponent) would be trying such techniques against you (ie checking my cards to make it appear I just 'discovered' my flush') that would destroy the effectiveness even in VR. You have clearly been playing poker long enough to know that the more you are 'aware' of your opponents tactics and play style the more advantage you have over them ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  3. Yep, got me! I confused "Phenomena" with Whitesnake....Neil Murray was another good one. As for Sarzo..maybe he's worked his way up to a Ric, by now. Coverdale, Lord, Paice, Moody, Murray & Marsden were the "real" Whitesnake....ya' know, before they got perms, broke their wrists and re-did "Here I Go Again"....badly. QFT.. Coverdale fired the old ugly brits when he got the trophy wife.. and the band was never as good again... love Riks need a new one... BTW Cliff Burton also played a rick ofc it had EMG's slapped in it :D ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  4. are you kidding??? lol i want to play across from you virtually then (no i wont tell you who i am that would be giving away info) but please keep believing people pressing buttons is a 'tell' ok maybe against the newest of fish.... very nice site.. about the best Virtual Reality Poker ive seen so far. All the shorthand chats are modeled as emotes and i like how you can even look at specific players by hovering the mouse... but please please please DO think that anything my avatar does is 'giving you a read'... lol edit: btw i think you miss understood my original post.. ME looking at my hand in RL is often looking at YOU to see your reaction...that doesnt work in VR... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  5. Which is The Sweet Heart Boogie February 15, 16, & 17. I've got it blocked out on my Calendar!!! It's going to be fun!! Heck yes....It'll be my last boogie as a Las Vegas resident Ive got to get back up there soon... but Damn.. i think i'll still be in Texass then.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  7. And even better...a RED HEAD! my money says shes a bottle job though... ofc i wouldnt mind checking a few times.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  8. interesting... but ofc in RL every time someone looks at their cards they arent always looking at their cards... you cant get a read from this by doing that in a video game, but you certainly can in RL... and it annoys the hell out of some opponents... if people are actually trying to 'read' you thru a game avatar i'm going to have to join just to see who i can hook with silly graphic antics... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

    Jury Duty

Financial burden as an excuse???? Laugable...and stupid. Evidently, your tax obligation is not burden enough to try to get out of that. WTF is one day or one week to do an important civic duty in comparision? Anybody wanna whine about financial burden should start with taxes and go from there. I know a number of people who cannot pay their bills if they miss even a few days of any pay period... granted that is the situation they put themselves in (one way or another) but to say that removing a day (or a month some trials go on for a while) of expected income isnt a valid excuse is delusional... anyone that works on tips for example is completely screwed by Jury Duty even if they are paid their 'salary'. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

    Jury Duty

You're simply wrong. MY EXPERIENCE IS WRONG???? rotflmao... just for kicks next week I'll actually poll all of those I know (mostly Engineers, but I'll ask the admins too because I KNOW who was out a week or more and who was out a day, and it WASNT the Engineers) who got called for jury duty, see who got picked and how many of us wasted our day just to get bounced.. sorry, but you don't know what the hell your talking about (yes i know your a lawyer) but if you are going to tell me you (as a profession)do not intentional weed those out who you believe will disagree with your case (aka might actually have a view point outside of the one you are trying to convince them of) I'm going going to have to call you a liar too. You do better with the people you believe you can convince of your argument. Depending on the complexity of your argument you may require a higher level of awareness, but that is FAR from the norm, Lawyers want a jury they can convince they are right while the other guy is wrong.. the intelligence of the jury is entirely incidental to that primary goal. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  11. you and I completely disagree on the purpose and value of Zoos. the 'ultimate protection' you desire is EXACTLY what promotes the culture of disrespect, towards animals in this case and towards gravity in skydiving by those who assume they are 'invincible' ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  12. if/when this happens i will be up to jump in kansas (and any other non USPA/non Skyride DZ) as soon as my schedule will allow.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  13. QFT.. on more issues than simply this... skydivers are a selfish bunch of entitled bastards.. "it doesn't affect MY jumping, why should I care??" I've heard more than once... time for an alternative to the USPA and to dropzones that are more about the 'business of' than the 'activity of' skydiving. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

    Jury Duty

What he said. Being "in the business" myself, I can tell you that it pisses me off to no end that hardly the only people who don't try like hell (usually successfully) to get out of jury duty are college students, the chronically under-employed (who are usually not educated beyond HS), and retirees. Not exactly a representative cross-section of the community. nearly every one i work with (mostly degreed Engineers) get 'bounced' from nearly every jury.. lawyers don't want intelligent, self thinking individuals on a jury.. they want 12 rubes who they can convince their arguments are more valid than those of their opponent. the end result is a wasted day I could have been doing something else that was actually productive... the entire idea of 'jury of your peers' is a joke. if they were truly my 'peers' they would likely understand the motivations behind whatever action i was accused of and there would be no contest. its not about money (AZ requires employers to compensate for jury time) its about the fact that I've wasted 10+ hours to a process I will be excluded from simply for demonstrating independent thought. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  16. regular part of my job... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  17. I dont think so.. not having been around then i cant say for sure, but IMO skydiving was a 'fringe' activity then.. the advances in tech and the proliferation of dropzones have simply made it more mainstream. Which in turn means it becomes more 'normalized' to the population. the 'seekers', those who are always looking for the edge, both personally and socially are never drawn to mainstream activities, to many paths already walked, horizons already seen.... the more rules, the more regulation, the more the collective attempts to make an activity 'safe for grandma' the fewer of those who feel compelled to push the limits (any and all limits up until the point they break) are attracted to that activity. wither that is a good thing or not depends entirely on 'which group' you feel most comradeship with... IMO those who were skydiving then would be BASE now... prior to the modern era and skydiving/flight at all.. the 'seekers' were the ones on the edge of the frontiers, reliant on no one and nothing but themselves ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  18. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080119/ap_on_re_us/tiger_attacks QFT. to BV again with the non sequitors... the axiom applies "if you are going to be stupid, you'd better be tough" jumping a main you are not ready for is clearly stupid. (note: not that your friends/loved ones/fence sitters think you are not ready for, but one that your ability shows you are not ready for.. there is a distinct (but subtle) difference)) if one are tough enough/lucky enough to survive, perhaps they will seek training or counseling depending on what their 'offense against sense' was.... if not... oh well.. they did deserve to die for both arrogance and stupidity... people often manage to elude the consequences which their actions deserve.. but that does not change the 'worthiness' of the action. it is the definition of 'tragedy' failure to respect physics often results in death in skydiving... failure to respect a predator resulted in death for the friend of these fools... protecting you from yourself and the consequences of your actions should never be societies job in any environment. Zoos provide the illusion of safety.. and only help teach disrespect toward that which would otherwise kill you... you dont see many people taunting predators in open fields now do you??? wonder why?? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  19. one of my friends worked for UPS (cant imagine its any different in any other company either TBH) in high school. He said the moto in the back warehouse was "fuck it, its not going to my house" ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  20. well you really arent supposed to get to much of them.. the 'isolation feeling' is a key aspect of the original.. but ofc its a movie... rarely do they live up to their sources. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  21. one of the key things people are missing about this film is that Richard Matheson is the creator of a great deal of the 'horror conventions' you've been exposed to for the last 50 years. If so much of this story seems 'derivative and unoriginal' it is because the original work inspired and influenced so many of the movies, tv shows and stories you were exposed to BEFORE you heard of this one... being exposed to those who 'stand on his shoulders' prior to discovering/being exposed to this story doesnt change the fact that Matheson 'did it first' ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  22. to be perfectly honest this website is what illustrated that I like and dislike "skydivers" in the same proportions I like and dislike the rest of the population.. the more popular any activity becomes the more it represents society as a whole... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  23. good thing I have been using yours the last year well that was really my point (badly stated by a FC quote) part of many peoples 'dislike' with their job is the fact that their self worth is tied up in it (and in how much they make, what they drive etc...) maybe a better quote would have been "you are what you do, when it counts" ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  24. I'd like to apologize to all the potential children who do not exist because of my (or my partners) use of contraception. I'd further like to apologize for all the potential little bastards who got swallowed by my partner (never even had a chance) but I feel the most guilt for all those potential humans who ended up in a sock/tissue/pillowcase without ever even being exposed to the warmth of another human being at all ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  25. yes.. up till now ive been lucky but eventually my luck will run out, or i'll stop doing stupid things first. (if its the former don't waste the tears they wont bring me back) skydivers take active measures to help ensure their 'stupid acts' are not fatal, but if/when those measures fail...YES. Jumping out of a plane IS an action 'worthy of' death (particularly when you take no precautions to prevent the eventual outcome) toying with anything 'fatal' without taking personal precautions IS 'stupid', failure to recognize when you are dealing with a "fatal situation" is the definition of Ignorance. the only good that may come out of this entire event is more people will recognize wild animals are NOT play toys.. EVEN if you think you are 'safe' from them. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
