becoming a general nowdays simply means you kept your nose clean, never tried (or never failed and got caught) anything risky, and are already a good politician. I briefed Clark twice during OJE, he while certainly wasn’t a bad general (he asked rather specific questions, most don’t) but he didnt seem all that interested in the actual answers, he had already made his decisions before and wasn’t considering anything contrary at that point... that personality type and attitude scares me from in any leadership position i've met both (although i had more interaction with Clark) Powell at least seems to be a man who accepts he doesnt always have all the information needed to make the best decisions. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

*grabs the whip for the poor horse* If nothing in life is safe..nothing at all...then why does it need to be said, "Skydiving is an unsafe sport..." everything is unsafe with that definition...so why does that need to be said? It's almost redundant. "Baseball is an unsafe sport that each individual has decided for themselves if they are comfortable with the level of risk that is associated with it and do what they can to mitigate the danger level." In saying "skydiving is unsafe"...you're implying that the level of danger is so much above that of other activities as to require additional comments about its safety (or lack thereof). Does skydiving carry risk? of course it does! Is it the extreme of risk that someone can take in life? it can be...if you engage in certain sub-activities...but it doesn't have to be. In fact, in its basics and done conservatively, skydiving can be relatively safe (compared to other things). no it cant. name 3 other sports where you are actively dying until you do something to change that outcome? stay in the plane or get out. pull or dont. you can certainly do things to increase your odds of survival (training, gear choices, currency) and add complexity and variations to make it more dangerous (swooping, wingsuits, big ways etc...) but nothing alters the basic level of risk you take everytime you step out the door. unless you pull, you are going to die. soon. how many other sports is that statement true for? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

The very thing that makes me angry about cheating is how it destroys people. The pain, the betrayal, it makes people build walls around themselves that no one else can conquer. It creates this vicious cycle...the person gets hurt, builds this wall to protect themselves, becomes blinded by the memory of being done wrong, and can't see a good thing when it's standing right in front of them. So they push away this good thing, all in the interest of not getting hurt again, and wonder why they can't meet a good person. Truth is, they just couldn't see it. . can I get an amen! hallelujah! preach on sister!!!! my head is bloody and i cannot see straight from beating against such walls. and little, nothing you do or say will even illuminate the walls for them to admit what they are doing... there are patterns to everything...i'm certainly adult enough to admit an attraction to the 'damsel in distress', so yes being used is certainly the result of choices i make as well... but fuck. is it so hard to start with being honest about what your after and what your willing to put into life to be happy?? note to self: for future wuffo gfs, never state that 'her walls are so high you could take a 10 sec delay' .....she wont get it and it will only annoy her further... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Well, I've heard tell that -some- folks don't like his politics, but I just don't see how that's possible. About the only thing I'd knock him for is his apparent fear of dirt. For some reason he thinks that the only way a person can make a civilized landing is on putting green quality grass. Hmph. Go fig? It's not the politics . . . i'll have to say the reverse...i hated skiing (till last weekend) but took to snowboarding like a fish to water...of course i'd had lots of time on surf/skateboards before..... now i'm trying to reprogram my balance to skiing.... gotta stay out of the back seat, gotta stay out of the back seat and having an absolute blast doing it...
