and if we believe that war (particularly a long term ‘pre-emptive’ war) is necessary for defense we should be willing to make that 'cultural sacrifice', if we are not then perhaps our reasons for war are not significant enough to justify it. wrong.. they should be heard, all the way though the entire election process, not simply another option at the end of it... Anyone who does enough research to know the minor parties exist and what their platforms are can easily write them in. the current system does not give equal time/exposure/media attention to any candidates other than the majors for 98% of the election, why should they be listed with equal status when it comes down to the final choice? once all parties are given equal opportunity, equal coverage and attention, to have their platform and candidates on equal footing throughout the entire electorial process then they should be included with equal weight on the ballots... until then its an inherent design flaw in the current system that does nothing to contribute positively to who is actually elected, it a negative that bleeds off votes of those dissatisfied with the choices really offered by the majors.. no minor party has any chance in hell under the current system, the majority of voters cant even name the parties, much less the candidates and platforms Currently the majority of the 'dissatisfied vote' primarily sides with the Dems... which means inclusion of other 'unknown options' on the ballot hurts Dems more than Rep..and skews the results by diversion, not by choice. It is irrelevant which party is affected more, the facts are one is 'harmed' more buy their inclusion than the other. It is in effect a 'handicap system', a built in flaw that skews the 'will of the people' by diverting votes that would have otherwise gone to one of the majors... I honestly want every party on every ballot in the US... and included in every news conference, every debate and every public event... but the two majors dont want to allow that... neither of the majors has any desire to have the minor parties actually participate...until the point that they can help 'sandbag' their opponent by taking away votes... it is a built in handicap that hurts on party more than the other.. Keeping them as write in gives them the same ‘ weight’ and status they are given throughout the entire campaign season, it levels the field.... iirc the Reps made the same fuss about Perot when he was ‘taking’ voters away from them… the flaw is in the ‘marketing system’ before the election… ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

actually the reason they considered reinstating it (and it was only considered, this bill had no chance of passing it was offered to congress instead to make an ideological point.) is that the all volunteer military comes more from the lower class than any other.. circa WWII draft the military came from all walks/classes, and the idea is that if our military is going to be used in this manner, to protect the people, the democracy it should reflect that democracy more than it currently does... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

yes. 3 conditions. It was love. I did not meet her in her bar. It was not her profession, but a means to an end. I know several ex-strippers...some never really had their sights set higher and trapped themselves in their job until it wasn’t and option anymore for one reason or another. Two of whom i am still close friends with it was a means to pay for college.. One is a chemical engineer now, and has always been one of the smartest women i know.. smart enough to realize that while we were slaving behind the bar and around tables for some 400-600 bucks a week (on good weeks) she brought home 2500+ EVERY week for doing something she enjoyed anyway...dancing in the nude...paid for college and allowed her (and the rest of us that lived with her) to enjoy the good life instead of living like the proverbial starving college students... the money is addictive however, (as it is in the wait/bar industry) high return for little effort...if she didnt have her sights goals set any higher she is not going to learn any other skills at all and eventually that will catch up to her.. just like it catches up to a bartender or a waitress....both of the industries should be stepping stones, not professions.... ive also met a few broken and bitter ex-strippers... its all about the woman...if she is motivated its jsut a temporary job... if she's not, its a lifestyle she is hanging on for all its worth until youth runs out..... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

that is the point in good tragedy... sad is a feeling, if you only feel happy your not getting the whole spectrum....if it doesnt make you cry it isnt good tragedy and misses the cathartic effect... knowing a thing and [I]feeling[/I] a thing are very different experiences..... we can hope (and attempt to build a world where) no one ever has to feel such pain for real. Evoking that emotion through drama teaches compassion and empathy I wish more drama focused on those aspects..
