Ran was the first movie in my collection.. i need to pick up the DVD now that the masterworks edition is out.. also a less well known but very accessable Kurosawa movie is "Dreams" a series of shorts that are simply incredible... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

because the bulk of dream interpretation is pure drivel.. you might not understand the toddler who hasnt quite figured out how to put words into a form his parents can comprehend, but it still means something... does a letter you write mean anything? how about a picture you take, paint? how about the things you say and do everyday while awake? do they mean anything? what about a book written in a language you dont understand? even one you may recognize the letters of, but doesnt make sense in the only language you know? does your lack of comphension render it meaningless? not knowing anything about him it would be ludicrous to attempt to define the symbols (even in the most generic archetypal forms, which are only starting points and vary widely based on cultural influences) and their relationship to his life... but dreams are far more than 'random memories drifting about while you sleep' in very much the same way skydiving is far more than 'falling' but then i remember the majority of my dreams (if i make an effort to as i wake)... and am fully aware i am dreaming while i am dreaming...in fact unless completely wakened I can fall right into a dream where it left off… it is simply a learned ability... anyone can fall..... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

very true.. but once the shooting does start those without guns are at an extreme disadvantage...I can honestly say i dont like guns, i dont like the so called 'equality' they bring, or the increased lethality they grant to anyone who can point and squeeze, and if i could snap my fingers and 'turn off' gun powder i certainly would...but i agree (to a certain extent) with those who equate a firearm with an AAD. Its better to have it and never need it, than need it and not have it... neither of which should affect how you behave in any given instance.. it all comes down to training and attitude. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

unfortunately brains dont stop bullets.. they might help you prevent the escalation of hostilities, but in some cases nothing you can say or do will change an aggressors action.. and equally unfortunately there is no parry for incoming fire... the only 'defensive response' available is more accurate outgoing... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

I am not going to argue this past this response and sidetrack the thread but I have always thought this to be a very dumb idea for people knowledgeble with guns I NEVER assume a gun is loaded. If unsure I treat it as if it were and then check it. It is Very simple to be sure a gun is unloaded. Never Assume. i love people who make comments they dont want to defend.. its a thread in the SC, it drifts, get over it.... when you 'assume' a gun is loaded, you treat it as if it is until you check it... therefore any gun you havent checked (since you last saw it) IS loaded, and can kill you. By way of example... you unload a gun and place it on a table behind you.. 10 min later someone picks up that gun (unseen by you) and points it at you. Are you going to think 'its not loaded, i unloaded it when i set it down' and then try to take it from him? doing exactly that has caused two shootings i am aware of, and very likely more... you may know how to handle a gun, but (unless its been in sight the whole time) you have NO IDEA what has happened to that gun since the last time you checked it.... using that rule prevents alot of unfortunate accidents.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

my grandfather (a gunsmith, and firearms safety officer for more than 50 years) taught me these: safety lesson 1: never point a gun at ANYTHING you are not prepared to shoot. that one lesson can/does/could have prevented a large number of incidents.... assumption 1: it's always loaded. I dont know about you, but i define my ‘friends’ by who is there when it counts, not who is there when its convenient… there isnt much i WONT do for my friends, even if its something I don’t like to do, dont enjoy, or even cant stand to do normally… that’s what friendship is (to me). I suppose everyone has their own definition, but if you aren’t willing to walk into a building to say hi to someone and brighten their otherwise dismal day, (you think YOU dont like hospitals?? he cant leave atm) who cant walk out to say hi to you........ look up... not to many people disagreeing.. yup, and the kind of logic that does NOTHING to help skydiving's image with the overall public.. i suppose adding an hour of travel time, several hours waiting time, and oh by the way.. skipping the fact that the services offered (beyond the simple jump) are FAR below those available elsewhere is a good thing? the difference between those who support skyride and those who want them closed is one cares more about business than anything else, the other cares more about skydiving... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

ridiculous! just last night I was talking to a friend who is going to make her first skydive next month... she's doing it as part of a group from Phoenix, and (ignorantly) the groups organizer booked their tandem slots online.... guess where they are going?? Marana!! this might not seem to be a big deal to you, but in order for a group from Phoenix to go make a skydive in Marana (which may be a good dropzone, but honestly cant compare to Eloy) they have to DRIVE RIGHT BY the largest skydiving center in the world!!! Do you think Skyride bothered to mention that there was a closer option?? of course not!! fortunately for them, she knew i was a skydiver as told me about her trip right off..hopefully things will be sorted this week... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
