  1. That's what I have: wide (Type 8) risers, Reserve Slinks, and Slink Covers. No problem with reserve slinks length. I don't know if shorter main Slinks would be long enought to wrap around all of this.
  2. There was a fatality in the past few years when someone who had used a shoe lace for a pack job had the plastic tip (the "aglet") come off the shoe lace and get jammed in the closing loop. Horseshoe malfuntion was the end result.

  7. Just remember, that when you pull in emergency, you pull with a "running start", so the force needed is lower. Something on the topic from Bill Booth: "Years ago, we mounted a High priced (1000 samples a second) digital scale on a the back of a harness, and connected it to a ripcord. From the standard reserve ripcord position, everyone could pull over 85 pounds with both hands...hell, one girl pulled over 100 pounds, and a few guys pulled over 150 pounds. "Soft" reserve handles generated forces nearly identical to metal handles. These numbers are from memory, but are probably pretty close. From other tests with the same scale, I have learned that if you pull "quickly", from a "running start" (slack in the cable), the pull force necessary to open the same reserve container is up to 300% lower than if you apply the force gradually to the handle. Most riggers only have a spring loaded fish scale, and therefore must apply pull forces gradually in order to read the scale. So, what reads 30 pounds on the fish scale in the loft, will only be around 10 pounds when you actually pull your reserve in an emergency, because I don't know of anyone who applies ripcord pull force "gradually" while falling rapidly toward the earth."

First, it is difficult, if not impossible to wrap anything around the Skyhook while it is under tension, either from the reserve pilot chute, or the red Skyhook lanyard...and the Skyhook is in tension from one of these sources from the time it is pulled from the #2 reserve flap, until the canopy is out of the bag. Secondly, there are no burn marks on either the freebag bridle or the lines involved. There isn't even any significant "scrunching" of the freebag bridle. This indicates that this "entanglement" was never under significant tension, as it would have been at tandem terminal (170 mph). Thirdly, there was no twisting (or barber polling) of the reserve lines, either with themselves, or with the reserve bridle. There should have been literally dozens. These, and several other facts, led us to the conclusion that this "entanglement" happened after impact, not thousands of feet in the air."
