Thank God! 'Optima' is an audible altimeter from L&B. "Count your tools _and_ audibles" . Riggerrob meant 'OPTIMUM' reserve from PD.

Fatality no. 25 on this list indicates that he had 14000 jumps TOTAL, including 4000 tandems. http://www.unitedparachutetechnologies.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=50

I have heard of many instructors with 10,000 tandem jumps. Anyone with 15,000 or 20,000 tandems?

Good god. The gear industry has gone insane!
skydiverek replied to ChrisL's topic in Gear and Rigging
That's true. In Poland we don't have Euro (yet), we still have Polish Zloty (PLN). Some 8 years ago 1000 USD = 4000 PLN. Now 1000 USD = 2000 PLN. I think that that's the Europeans that are creating backlog of orders for containers - thank you America for your weak dollar ! -
Well, I thought the same, and contacted PD for a slider with brass grommets. Here is what they told me: "We do still make a rare and occasional slider for a main canopy with brass grommets, but it is not the best option. The Stainless will last the best and function in the same manner as brass. The size and weight are nearly identical. Stainless used to be heavier when they first came out, but that has not been the case for over 10 years now. Brass is actually heavier now." Also, PD gave me the weight: Stainless # 25 = 19.16 grams Brass #8 = 21.9 grams Also, Aerodyne advertises the "super lightweight slider grommets" on their Pilot - can someone from Aerodyne give us their weight in grams from comparison?

Did you buy a brand new Spectre 190? If so, can someone measure the slider and write here what its dimensions are? I bought the used Spectre 190 and am not sure if it has the correct slider. PD says the dimensions should be 23 x 31 inches. I measured mine and it is 21.66 x 30 inches (I measured ALL of it, that is the zero-p material inside, plus the tape on the edge). PD also said different measuring techniques yield different results, and that probably I have a correct slider, but I want to double check with some of the dz.com users :). I measured it the way I would measure any other rectangle, so I cannot see a different "method" of measuring ... Thanks!

---> How do you add a 'voice over' to a DVD movie?
skydiverek replied to skydiverek's topic in Photography and Video
Cool, thanks! I probably want to leave the original soundtrack and a narrator, just make it more quiet and put my voice over it. Can anyone give me more product names that can do it? Any free software out there (freeware, trial versions that can handle 60 minute movies?, etc.)? -

Do you understand the benfits of a Collin's Lanyard?
skydiverek replied to klingeme's topic in Gear and Rigging
I remember the fist mention of Collins Lanyard in the Skydiving Magazine in 1998. It looked different then. Actually, it was a SEPERATE piece of line, connecting right RSL riser to the left cutaway cabe (= the Collins Lanyard looked like a piece of Spectra line with loops at its ends). It is simplified now - I like the current design better. -

How about a Freefly-Hacky (attached)?: "Love the security of your freefly handle, but miss the grip of your hacky? Continuing a legacy of innovation, Mirage Systems has introduced a solution to give you the best of both worlds. We have designed the Mirage Freefly Hacky. The Freefly Hacky is identical to the traditional hacky with the exception of a tuck tab that snugly fits under the corner flap of your main container. This allows the jumper to get a full palm's grip on the handle, while greatly reducing the chance of a premature deployment. Gone are the days of a pilot chute that walks out of its pouch! Just like the Mirage Freefly Handle, this hacky remains in-place until deployment, even at freefly speeds! The Freefly Hacky option costs no more than the Freefly Handle or the traditional Hacky Handle. It's just one more way that Mirage provides extra value in a rig that is truly custom built for you. If you wish to choose the Freefly Hacky, just specify in the Special Instructions section of your order form."

Horseshoe and PC-in-tow are very difficult to get on pull-out (much less likely than on throw-out).
-
One more knot (attached). Basically, the PVC (plastic tube) handle does NOT have that space between itself and the pilotchute (i.e. is sewn closer to the PC), so the bridle cannot tie there (or at least is less likely to). Morover, the shape of PVC lying flat on the PC is more snagproof (as compared to spherical hackey - think about that).
-
What exactly was the problem?
-
And what would this reserve pilotchute do (pictures in the link)? http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1563649#1563649

I have few questions: 1. What is the slider size on Spectre 190? I bought a used one, so I don't know if the slider is original. 2. By rolling the nose, do you mean rolling all 7 cells in one motion, or rolling three cells towards the center cell, and then rolling three other cells also towards the center cell?
