Also, make sure the attachment tape goes THRU the handle's opening, exiting at both end - that way, there is no way for the bridle to get under the handle from the side. The best designs have that, PLUS a third attachment in the middle of the PVC, going thru it, down, to the PC. Worst PVC designs have just this third middle attachment, leaving the sides exposed to bridle "under wrap". Hacky or monkey fist is worse idea (see attached).

I believe that the "Good.jpg" is the Vector design of freefly handle. "Bad.jpg" was used few years ago on Wings (maybe still is?) 'Good' because there is no place to wrap the bridle under the handle (see that scenario with hacky - "Knot.jpg".)

I would cut RISERS (close to my shoulders), not lines. I would not want two feet of risers flapping above me when deploying my main... Also, the cheapo orange plastic knive that most people have would probably be useles (see attachment). Get TWO METAL knives (in case you drop one, especially when wearing the gloves like this guy)! One last skydiver managed to cut the line, but only due to repositioning the blade so it sliced more before getting stuck in the upper corner. I really hope that the manufactor would stop selling theese knives due to its poor quality. I'd say it hazardous since people are buying them without knowing that they "won't" work... get a proper metal hook knife, all of you!" ---------------------------------------- -

Hmmm, the user manual shows it being mounted on the CABLE. See attached . -

Once the rig opened (and was moved later on), the loops were pulled into the flaps ("escaped"). Loops were fine and intact. -

I noticed a problem with Campus (from Parachute de France) student rigs (not sure if they are "Campus 1" or "Campus 2"). Anyway, the problem I observed is the accidental reserve openings. One reserve opened just after the main canopy opening, resulting in a biplane. The other rig was transported on a truck, when the reserve opened... I am attaching the photo of the one that opened on the truck. As you can see, there is plenty of slack left on the "LOR-2" lanyards, and the pins are still "deep" down, but already OUT of the loops. The FXC AAD did NOT fire. Of course, once packed, both pins were thru the metal eye. There is also plenty of slack in the reserve cable. Do you have any idea or similar experiences of what is causing this? Blue Skies! Bart -

You CAN do something - switching to Dacron! Here is what BILL BOOTH has said on dropzone.com about DACRON LINES. Great source of info!: "My tests show up to a 300% increase in opening shock felt by the jumper using Spectra vs. Dacron suspension lines. It is not always that much different. It depends on how quickly the force is applied...and canopy makers have done a good job of designing canopies that open slowly enough to allow the routine use of Spectra. However, when a rare hard (quick) opening happens, Spectra lines will definitely make it hurt more." "Tandem canopies are public transportation. Little old ladies and parapelgics jump tandem. Dacron lines give lower opening shocks. It's that simple. This might not matter much on a "normal" opening, but if someone make a small mistake packing which results in a super fast opening, the Dacron lines could save somebody's grandmothers life. At the bottom of your fall, your body applies the same force to the steel cable as it would to a rubber bungee cord, but because steel doesn't stretch, your legs tears off.)." "Reinforced type-17 webbing risers rarely break. They have a new breaking strength of around 3,500 lbs. This is not that much less than type-8 risers breaking strength of 4,000 lbs. The real difference is whether you have mini rings or large rings...and the difference here is in cutaway forces, not breaking strength. While properly designed mini-ring risers can easily release even a 250 lb. jumper in a 3 or 4 "G" spin, the problem is that it is harder to manufacture mini-ring risers correctly. What causes any riser to break is usually a combination of a heavy jumper, a hard opening canopy, and no stretch (Spectra, Vectran, or HTML) line. Broken risers on Dacron lined canopies are very rare indeed." "Single rear riser break is very rare. Risers usually break where they go around the large harness ring. It is obvious that since the "reinforcement" in type 17 risers is below the confluence, it does nothing to prevent this kind of damage. When this riser broke, it "released" a lot of energy, thus preventing much more serious injury of the jumper. Which is a good thing. The only way I know of to prevent "killer" opening shocks, is not to jump Spectra (Microline) or Vectran. They don't stretch at all, and therefore do nothing to help absorb the energy of a really hard opening. As long as we insist on jumping non-stretch lines, incidents like this are bound to happen. (Canopies with Dacron lines can still open hard, but much less shock is actually felt by the jumper.).

My Firefox has an icon in the lower right hand corner (just above the standard Windows clock). If you click it, it switches to "IE mode". Then, the "copy shortcut" link is there. After you copy it, just switch back to "Firefox mode". Easy, few clicks. -

I quess all people spanked here were using Micorlines on their Spectres. I switched to Dacron on my Spectre. It made a WORLD of difference! The openings are WAY softer.
